Nigeria Banks To Shutdown Nationwide



A major crisis looms in the financial sector, as all banks in the country may shut their doors to customers anytime this week, as their chief executive officers (CEOs) move to protest the continued detention of their staff by the Department of State Security (DSS).

Daily Sun gathered that the CEOs are irked by the arrest and detention of several key officials of no fewer than 13 banks over the last two weeks by security operatives, saying that this has not only crippled their operations but also poses a great risk if normal banking operations continues.

French Hostage Held by Boko Haram/Ansaru Escapes.



Reuters) -

 A French engineer who had been held hostage by Islamist militants in northern Nigeria for almost a year has escaped his jailers, President Francois Hollande said on Sunday.



"This man showed exceptional courage. At the risk of his life, he took advantage of an opportunity and then, in conditions worthy of an adventure novel, he managed to free himself," Hollande told reporters in Israel, where he is on a state visit.

What Actually Killed Festus Iyayi




The name Festus Iyayi symbolizes struggle for academic freedom, democratization of our educational system, national development and socialism.


He was the President of Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) in the 1980s and in 1987, under his leadership, the Babangida administration banned ASUU, terminated the employment of Prof. Iyayi from University of Benin and subsequently arrested, detained and tortured him.

All Progressives Congress (APC) Sunday said it will not take part in the re-run election going on in some areas where voters were disenfranchised in Saturday’s governorship election  in Anambra State.
