Woman Crushes Corps Member To Death, Claims He Was Busy Pinging On The Road





The Ogun State police command yesterday [Jan. 10] arraigned a 52-year-old woman, Mrs. Kehinde Olubanke, before an Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court sitting in Isabo, for allegedly crushing a 28-year-old youth corps member to death. 
Olubanke was said to have committed the crime by driving and speeding dangerously in her Nissan Almera car, thereby causing the untimely death of the youth corps member identified as Egbe Ogbu, who was serving in the state.

Court Sacks Oyinlola As PDP National Secretary




A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday sacked the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, from office. Oyinlola was ordered to vacate the office after the high court presided by Justice Abdul Kafarati, held that there was merit in a suit that was entered against him by Chieftains of the party in Ogun State. 

Residents Flee Gboko In Benue State After Boko Haram Kingpin Was Traced To Their Community




After a kingpin of the dreaded Islamic group, Boko Haram, Ali Jalingo, was trailed to Agase community, a suburb of Gboko in Benue state, residents of the community have fled their homes for fear of reprisal attacks. According to reports, the Boko Haram leader’s hideout in Agase was traced by security operatives who came in the midnight to pull down his hose but couldn’t arrest him. Residents said they were woken up by sounds of gunshot n the middle of the night.

The dispute between First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan and wife of late President Umar Musa Yar’adua, Turai, over a piece of land in the nation’s capital, is far from over as the out of court settlement on the matter has broken down. The land, 1.84 hectares, located at plot no. 1347 Cadastral Zone AOO, Central Business District, Abuja, FCT, was initially allocated to Women and Youth Empowerment Foundation (WAYEF) when Turai was the First Lady. 

Alao Akala Arraigned For Biting Off Journalist’s Ear




A 50-year-old man who bears the same name as a former governor of Oyo State was arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court for allegedly biting off the left ear of a journalist, Saheed Ganiyu. Alao Akala bit off Ganiyu’s ear when he was investigating the background of late political godfather of Kwara politics, Dr. Olusola Saraki. Another journalist, Rasaki Olayiwola was also reportedly hit on the head with a camcorder stand by the accused.

NNPC’s $1.5bn loan fraudulent –NLC




Organised labour on Thursday said the $1.5bn syndicated loan deal by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation was a conduit for looting the nation’s treasury. The Nigeria Labour Congress accused the NNPC of perpetrating a “fraudulent” dependence on fuel importation and looting of the treasury, saying the loan the government’s oil corporation said it needed to pay debts had further exposed the fraud in the management of fuel subsidy.

EFCC arrests former CBN governor, Charles Soludo




Former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, was Thursday arrested  by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC). He was picked up from his Abuja residence a source in EFCC confirmed to Vanguard. Vanguard gathered that Soludo’s arrest was in connection with the controversial contract he awarded for the printing of polymer currency notes to an Australian firm while he was governor of the CBN between 2006 and 2008.  It was not clear as at the time of filing the report if the operatives would release the former Anambra State Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate. 6month Nigerian, baby kidnapped, South Africa




Six month old Nigerian baby, Revelation Jones, was on Tuesday January 8th abducted by his parents neighbours, a couple believed to be Pakistanis. The couple, who have three children of their own,  allegedly attacked Revelation's nanny, leaving her for dead and also locked up a six year old girl in the house, as they took the baby.

Egba, Ijebu unfair to Ogun West – Obasanjo



Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday declared that the people of Ogun West Senatorial District had been marginalised by the other zones in the state. He said this while receiving the leaders of the party from the district, who paid him a solidarity visit at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta. He accused the Ogun East and Central zones, made up of the Ijebu/Remo and Egba, of working against the interest of the senatorial district comprising the Yewa/Awori.

‘Motorcyclists Responsible For Insecurity In FCC’




The Director of FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) Col. Wilson Alade (rtd), has blamed the insecurity in the federal Capital City (FCC) on activities of motorcyclists operating in the city.The director who disclosed this to newsmen yesterday, said that the directorate had impounded over 270 commercial motorcycles in the last four days in conjunction with other security personnel, adding that it would soon begin impounding tricycles, popularly called Keke NAPEP.He said, “Of recent, we have been having challenges especially in the area of security and it has been traced more to the recklessness of Okada riders within the FCC. We have in our cache about 270 motorcycles and the number will keep increasing on a daily basis until they are ready to comply with our directives.

University of Benin on Wednesday distanced itself from  Prof. Isaiah Ibeh’s claim that he had found a possible cure for  AIDS. Reports on Wednesday quoted Ibeh, who is  UNIBEN’s Dean of  Basic Medical Sciences, as saying he had  developed a herbal  drug capable of curing AIDS. He told the News Agency of Nigeria in Benin on Tuesday that the new drug had undergone “a series of successful tests”.

Rapist Stabbed To Death As He Sexually Assaulted 18-Year-Old Girl




A Polish sex attacker was killed by a passerby who intervened to stop him molesting an 18-year-old girl in the street, a jury heard yesterday. Janusz Smoderek died of stab wounds soon after he drunkenly assaulted the teenager while on his way home from a lap-dancing club. Stephen Sleaford admits stepping in to save the young woman, but insists he was not responsible for Smoderek's death, and says it was in fact the Pole who was carrying a knife, not him. The prosecutor praised the actions of Sleaford, 38, in helping the unnamed girl after Smoderek grabbed her breasts while she was returning home from a night out in Boston, Lincolnshire in September 2011.

Pregnant Woman, Daughter Burnt To Ashes In Imo




A mysterious fire, which engulfed a house in Ubachima, Awo Omamma, Oru East Local Gouncil Area of Imo State, has consumed a pregnant woman and her two-year-old daughter.It was not clear how the fire started but two conflicting accounts were peddled by villagers as the cause of the inferno when Vanguard visited the scene of the ugly incident.The first account had it that the pregnant woman, Mrs. Nkechi Amajuoyi, her husband, Benedict, and their daughter, were cooling off outside the house until it became very chilly for the woman and her little daughter.
