Justice Delayed: Aluu 4 Gone but not forgotten

It's exactly three months four UNIPORT students -Tekena, Ugonna, Chiadika, and Ilyod were brutally murdered in the Aluu community. 16 people have so far been arrested for their murder. The suspects appeared in court on Thursday December 20th but the trial was stalled due to the failure of prison officials to produce them in court. The case was then adjourned till February 28, 2013. Hope this time the prisonofficials won't forget to bring them to court.

These young men had their whole lives ahead of them and didn't deserve to die the way they did. Hope they get justice. We are watching!

Tales of woes as NHRC visits Kirikiri Prison

•Members of NHRC inspecting inmates’ food

Inmates of the Kirikiri Maximum Prison have complained about slow and sometimes unfair judicial process as well as the subhuman conditions they are facing.

The inmates told the National Human Rights Commission during the commencement of the 2012 South-West Zonal prison audit, that many of them had been awaiting trial for years. They added that some of the convicts were facing health challenges due to lack of health facilities in the prison.

Health problems

A death row inmate, Matthew Nwokocha, who is asthmatic, complained that due to the stuffy nature of the cells, he had had frequent asthma attacks. He said the prison’s medical unit had run out of inhalers.

He said, “I was sentenced to death in Imo State in 2006 but was transferred to Kirikiri. When I get asthma attacks, it’s always unbearable. One night I almost died but for one of the doctors that gave me an injection.

“I’ve asked for inhalers and other drugs but they said they don’t have any.”

A doctor at the prison, Hemeson Edwin, said there was need for the government to increase funding especially in the area of health.

Edwin said the prison authorities usually paid for treatment of inmates referred to hospitals outside the facility.

He added that due to lack of funds, all inmates eat the same food even though some of them need special diets due to health challenges.

He said, “All patients, including the diabetic ones are made to eat the same food because that is what we can afford. Inmates who have been referred to hospitals are also made to pay. Recently, a female inmate gave birth through caesarean section and has been bleeding since. We took her to a government hospital and we were made to make down payment.

“When prisoners die, we are also made to pay mortuary fees. The only hospital that gives concession as regards corpses is the Isolo General Hospital and that may soon end because there are moves by the state government to privatise that as well.”

The Controller of Prisons, Abayomi Oguntuase, urged the state government to offer free healthcare to inmates.

“The issue of treating inmates for free has become pertinent. When we don’t have funds, taking an inmate to hospital becomes a problem,” he said.

Awaiting trial inmates and congestion

Some of the inmates complained that the slow judicial process was unfair. One of them, Ogechukwu Obioma, said, “I was brought here in 2005 for robbery and conspiracy and was taken to Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court but I haven’t been to court since then.”

Another inmate, Paul Samuel, said, “I was brought to Kirikiri for alleged robbery in 2005 from Yaba Magistrate’s Court 4 but the Director of Public Prosecutions has yet to issue advice.”

Another inmate, Emmanuel Uzor, said he had been on trial for 11 years despite the fact that witnesses had yet to come forward.

Oguntuase said the congestion was majorly caused by the awaiting trial persons. He said, “The medium prison for instance, has had no less than 2,400 inmates at any point in time this year as opposed to its capacity of 1,500. The cells are no longer conducive for habitation.”

Aged, long-standing inmates seek release

Some of the old inmates pleaded with the government to release them as they no longer posed a threat to society. One of such inmates, Steven Ojoko, convicted of robbery, said he had been in Kirikiri for 34 years.

He said, “I was brought to Kirikiri in 1978 and was convicted in 1984 for robbery. I was initially sentenced to death but my sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. I beg the relevant authorities to release me. I am old and reformed.”

Another inmate, Edet Akpan, 52, who has been in prison for 30 years for robbery and another inmate incarcerated in 1984 for attempted robbery, Ibrahim Lasisi, urged the government to release them.

It was learnt that the oldest inmate is 82 years.

NHRC canvasses increased funding, speedy trial

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary, NHRC, Prof. Ben Angue, urged the judiciary to address the problem of prolonged trial to ensure fairness.

Angue said prisoners had the right to life and deserved to be taken care of, adding that a country’s human rights index was most times judged by the condition of its prisons.

He said, “A trial is no longer fair when it goes on for too long. For instance, a trial spanning 11 years could affect the witness’ ability to recollect.

“If after 11 years, such a person is found not guilty, how would you compensate the person for the years lost? Some inmates are innocent, many of them are victims of false allegation or were arrested by the police during raids and branded as armed robbers. I’m not saying criminals should go scot free but the innocent ones should not be criminalised.

“The cost of N200 for the daily feeding of an inmate is too low and government needs to increase funding. Some prisoners need to be on special diet due to health conditions and it is their right.”

Aluu-4 were NOT armed robbers, they were set up - IG of Police

The Inspector General of police, Mohammed Abubakar, said today that the four UNIPORT students lynched by a mob in Aluu on 5th October, were not armed robbers.

In a statement released by the IGP today, he said investigations conducted by the police so far revealed that Tekena, Llyod, Ugonna and Chiadika had gone to Aluu that morning to demand for money allegedly owed to them by a guy named Coxson Lelebori Lucky, also known ‘Bright’, and it was Bright who raised a false alarm that they were armed robbers. And you all know what happened next..they were all brutally killed.

The IGP also said in the statement that Coxson/Bright has disappeared, but promised to track him down. The statement mentioned 4 suspects as being directly involved in the killing. They are: Chigozie Samuel Evans, Felemo Solomon, Cynthia Chinwo, and Ozioma Abajuo. VIDEO: Girl Stripped & Molested For Stealing At Shoprite

This is very disturbing. I struggled with whether I should post up the video I just watched or not, and decided not to post it. It’s a bit too much.

Apparently a lady was caught stealing at shoprite, and after she was caught she was stripped, and molested by a crowd of men. They were all tearing her clothes, grabbing her in inappropriate places, and fondling her.

At some point in the video they picked her up, spread her legs and it looked like they tried to insert something in her private area, or were taking pictures. Whatever it is, it’s very bad.

Now I’m not exactly sure what she stole, but please Nigerians, this is not the way forward. Just because this young lady stole something doesn’t mean it’s grounds for stripping her and molesting her. This is not the first time such stories have come up and it’s very sad.

Sexually molesting someone is not the punishment for stealing. Please Nigerian men in particular, let’s stop this backward thinking. We’re barely getting over the aluu 4 killings, and this one pops up. Which way Nigeria?

REST IN PEACE ALUU 4. A MUST READ

"Thieves, thieves" he screamed, it was almost funny. Not until more voices joined the chorus as they screamed and shouted on us. We could have ran at least to save our lives, but little did we know how the day would end.

From a handful of young men shouting and throwing questions at us, it escalated to a crowd of angry mob. There was no way we could escape this one, so we calmed down.

They pushed us around and then stripped us all. These men pulled us pants down, we were more than embarrassed, the whole community watched, I recognized few faces from the crowd. Obviously they were so afraid to say "stop" then the beating started, I wished it to be just a nightmare....
But it was real! These men were determined. They dropped heavy rocks on our heads, they pounded our faces wit largeplanks, blood covered our eyes, they matched and kicked us right on our nostrils, we couldn't breathe."Bring tire" one of the men repeated, until they brought the tires.

Fish out perpetrators

Pastor David Sadiq, Royalpriestofjesus@yahoo.co.uk: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr once said that, “Through violence you may murder a murderer, but you can’t murder murder. Through violence you may murder a liar,  but you can’t establish truth. Through violence you may murder a hater,  but you can’t murder hate. Darkness cannot put out darkness. Only light can do that…”

The people that brutally and in such a inhumane manner, murdered the four university students in Aluu, Rivers State have done nothing to ward off evil but in their callous and barbaric jungle justice have demonstrated that they are nothing but harbingers of death.

Taking lives of fellow human beings in such a calculated coldness and alacrity can only confirm what the scripture says that in the end “the love of many shall wax cold.” Matthew 24:4-12.

A full inquest must be carried out by the Nigeria Police to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.

Let us all rise and pray for our youths that our tomorrow shall not plunge into dark oblivion.

REAL FACTS BEHIND THE KILLINGS OF THE FOUR UNIPORT STUDENTS AT ALUU COMMUNITY IN PORT-HARCOURT

-Latest investigation had revealed that none of the 4 murdered students was involved in robbery or any kind of pilfering.
It was gathered from a source that ugo and Lloyd were cousins. Someone was indebted to Ugo around the community and had vowed not to pay. Ugo who was popularly known as tipsy had gone to meet a fearless university guy to help them track the debtor who had been on the run. The guy who was feared by many in the school had accepted to accompany Ugo and Llyold to get the debtor tracked down and get his own percentage of the money.

They were joined by their room mate,Chidiaka. On their way to the place, they met one of their friends,Tekena, who knew nothing about the plan and he joined, just for the hype as its normal with young boys of juvenile age. They were actually 5 that got to the debtor’s compound. Unknown to the other 4,the guy who was contracted to intimidate the debtor just to get the money went with a gun.

When they got to the debtor’s house, around 5am,fight ensued,as the debtor confronted them. A next door neighbour,a woman started shouting on top of her voice, that they were thieves, attracting other bad boys around the areas, whom they said were rival cult group of the one on contract. They swung into action by tipping the vigilantee who confronted the boys, referring to them as thieves. At the process of beating the boys, and while they were trying to explain, the 5th contracted guy,the cultist brought out his gun to scare the people, and he escaped leaving the rest 4 at the mercy of the villagers. The explanation they tried to give fell on the community’s deaf ears as the people insisted that they must be killed. They were beaten naked and taken round the whole community for hours before they were killed and burnt close to a sand pit at about 10am in the watchful eyes of more than 3 thousand people, whom the police couldn’t over-powered

THIS STORY IS AN EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT FROM THE 5TH BOY WHO ESCAPED,HE NARRATED THIS TO UGO AND LLOYD’S FRIEND. Ugo and Lloyd’s were promising rappers and singers, they had just finished recording a song titled ”aint no love in the city”. MAY THEIR SOUL R.I.P!!!

ALUU-4 SLAUGTERS APRENENDED: It Was All A Prank! Pictures

Hey guys, please dont get it twisted, this is just a prank played on our intelligence from some people in uniforms. Earlier on, some social media carried the news that one of the Aluu killers was caught and paraded on the streets; well this is not true because from the pictures below you can see that he is a friend to these guys in camouflage. Can you see how people can make light of issues that calls for sober reflection of how deteriorated our society has become.. what a silly joke on such a horrible death: Two out of the four of them were cousins. Ugonna and IIyod. Both of them were upcoming rappers.

Big L was the winner of a popular Rap Contest show on Silverbird TV PH called ‘Turb Show’. I have listened to some of his songs.. We the youths of this country demand that the River State Government look into this matter and arrest everyone in that video. Except the government want to tell us that they have given the youths of Aluu power to arrest and kill indiscriminately. The Rivers government MUST make a scapegoat of the people who did this so it doesn’t repeat itself. Next time, it could be my brother or your brother. My child or your child! We can’t let this happen again. So let’s unanimously start a campaign #justice until the Rivers State government and FGN Look into this matter…the murderers of these four promising youths must be brought to book, yes.

Jungle Justice :4 UNIPORT Students Burnt Alive For Allegedly Stealing Laptops And Mobile Phones (PHOTOS)

OMG!!, this is case and scenario at Aluu community when three students of the University of Port Harcourt namely Ugonna, Aladdin and Chidiaka were beaten and burnt alive by irate indegenes of the said community for allegedly stealing phones and laptops in an off campus hostel..

where is our conscience, must we take the law into our hands?? Instead of calling the police and getting them arrested, these birds of a feather put tyre over the heads of these students who were not armed & burnt them to ashes. Then they took pictures, filmed the brutality & spread it around. This happened today in PH. We are gradually losing our humanity in this country. The boys were all in their early 20s.
