French Diplomat: France’s Mistral Warships Deal With Russia Legally in Force





The delivery of first Mistral-class helicopter carrier, built for Russia under the 2011 contract, has not been put off yet, as the statement made earlier on Wednesday reflected personal position of President Francois Hollande, a French diplomatic source said Wednesday.

Late P’Harcourt doctor’s sister tests positive for Ebola





The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, has put the total number of confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria at 18. The 18th patient, according to the Federal Government, is the sister of the late Port Harcourt doctor who died of the EVD recently.

A statement issued on Wednesday night by his Special Assistant (Media and Communication), Mr. Dan Nwomeh, said the number of cases successfully managed and discharged was eight while the number of deaths from EVD was seven.

We pray before every operation, say suspected robbers





Four members of a robbery gang who were arrested by the Lagos State Police Command have said they usually prayed to God before any operation.

One of the suspected robbers, Mutalubi Abdullahi, explained that the prayer was to ensure that only ‘sinners’ would be dealt with by the gang, while the ‘innocent’ would be spared.

Abdullahi, who was arrested along with Ismaila Moruf, Opeyemi Akinyemi and Sarah Emmanuel, were arrested by the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the command, for robbing early morning pedestrians and motorists in the Mile 2 area of the state.

Militias in the south-east of Ukraine are ready to cease fire




Militias in the south-east of Ukraine are ready to cease fire if the Ukrainian army takes a similar step, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Prime Minister Alexander Zakharchenko said on Wednesday.

He said the so-called “counter-terrorism operation” in the south-eastern regions known as Donbass involved not only the regular Ukrainian army but also the National Guard, the nationalistic Right Sector and private battalions.

Lagos warns Nigerians against fake Ebola test kit





The Lagos State Government on Wednesday warned Lagosians and other citizens in the country not to fall victims of suspected fraudsters who were selling a kit that could purportedly be used to test for Ebola Virus.

The government, in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Mr Hakeem Bello, explained that the reality on ground was that there was nothing like that.

It added that the product, which was called Rapid Response Canada, was nothing but a hoax to rip-off unsuspecting Nigerians of their earned money.

I Don’t know B'Haram, how can I Sponsor Them? ––Senator Ali Modu Sheriff Deni





Ex-Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff today denied allegations that he is among the main sponsors of the Islamic fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram. Speaking at a media conference in Abuja, Sheriff threatened to sue Stephen Davies, the Australian negotiator who said the terrorists named him as kingpin of the sponsors. He also expressed preparedness to handle any panel in the world.

“I have no association with any terrorists anywhere,” he declared. “I have never met the group. I cannot be a sponsor of a group I have not met before. I don't have foot soldiers, as they alleged.”

Ebola death toll hits 1,900 -WHO




The World Health Organisation says more than 1,900 people have now died in West Africa’s Ebola outbreak. WHO head Margaret Chan said there were 3,500 confirmed or probable cases in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. “The outbreaks are racing ahead of the control efforts in these countries,” she said. On Thursday the WHO is holding a meeting to examine the most promising treatments and to discuss how to fast track their testing and production.

FG blacklists firm for abandoning power project




The Federal Government has blacklisted a firm, Messrs Techno Electric and Engineering Company and its directors, from executing any government project in the country for abandoning a power project awarded to it.


Briefing State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, the Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil said the company abandoned electricity project in Ebonyi State for the Engineering Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of 2X60MVA, 132/33KV at Amasiri and 2X132KV Line Bays Extension at Abakaliki after collecting 15 per cent mobilisation fee on December 1, 2010.

Impeached Enugu Deputy Gov Rejects Redeployment





Indications have emerged that the impeached deputy governor of Enugu State, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, would not accept his redeployment to the state civil service by Governor Sullivan Chime.

The former deputy governor was an employee of the Enugu State Civil Service before he ventured into politics after rising to the rank of a permanent secretary. But he was demoted to the rank of a deputy director in his redeployment, which was confirmed by the Enugu State Government on Monday.

Efforts by Punch to get Onyebuchi to comment on the development were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report but a source, who is close to him, informed Punch that the former deputy governor would ignore the redeployment.

Another US Doctor in Liberia Contracts Ebola

Another American missionary doctor has tested positive for Ebola in Monrovia, Liberia; making him the third American health care worker to contract the virus.

The name of the doctor, who worked for the Christian aid group SIM, has not been released. But the group said in a statement that he did not treat Ebola patients. Instead, he saw obstetrics patients at the organization's main ELWA hospital, which is separate from its Ebola isolation unit. How he became infected is unknown.

 Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu has debunked rumours of Ebola cases in Abuja and Calabar and said the case in Kaduna continues to be under investigation. He also stated that another patient has been discharged from the Isolation center in Lagos after being certified free from the deadly virus.  He addressed issues in some tweets via his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mr Dan Nwomeh. Rivers State releases 300million Naira to fight Ebola in the state




Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi announced today that his administration has released over N300million to fight the Ebola virus in the state.  Amaechi disclosed this while speaking with the Country Director of the World Health Organization, WHO, Mr. Rui Vaz, at the government house in Port Harcourt.

“Whatever it takes for us to overcome Ebola, please, I will do it because it costs more if Ebola is on the loose than if it is contained. So, we are happy that the World Health Organization is here to assist Rivers State. We are happy that the World Health Organization appreciates the dangers of Ebola to our communities. We need to contain Ebola. If there is no cure, then there is containment so that more persons don’t contract it. The Rivers State Government is prepared to take all the responsibility. The citizens are ours,” Amaechi said.

Woman arraigned in Lagos court for jilting lover



43-year-old events planner Omolola Shittu (pictured right), has been dragged before a Magistrate court in Lagos state for allegedly jilting and stealing from her 55 year old ex-lover, Prince Hilary Unachukwu.

According to Vabguard, Omolola, who was charged alongside one Raphael Oge, 51, on a three-count charge bothering on stealing and threat to life of her ex-lover, pleaded not guilty in court and was remanded in prison custody till she meets her bail conditions.

Fire razes 40 homes at Police barracks in Lagos



Fire has raised about 40 apartments at the Ijeh Police Barracks in Obalende Lagos state PM News reports. The explanation for the fire outbreak is yet to be determined. Here is the same barracks a officer died on Friday August 29th after he was pushed down a building by his wife during a fight. The officer died before getting to a medical facility while his widow continues to be in the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital.

Suspected Kaduna Ebola case tests negative






Yesterday there were reports a student of Law at Ahmadu Bello University, showed apparent symptoms of the deadly Ebola virus, but fortunately he's tested negative to the virus. Based on Premium Times, authorities of ABU and the Kaduna State Government had sent the patient's blood to Lagos for testing after he reportedly manifested some symptoms related to Ebola while on admission at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital.

APC asks GEJ to hand over alleged sponsors of Boko Haram to the Int'l Criminal Court



The National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun, has asked Pres. Jonathan to arrest and hand over all those Australian Hostage Negotiator Stephen Davis, alleged to be sponsors of Boko Haram to the International Criminal Court. Oyegun said this while speaking with journalists in Abuja yesterday
"The man who exposed the boko haram sponsors is a Jonathan appointed, paid, hostage negotiator so he definitely has no axe to grind. He was certainly not speaking on behalf of the APC because we didn't know he existed until out of frustration he finally decided to speak up. Now that the cat has been let out of the bag and the real sponsors of Boko Haram have been exposed, we hope President Jonathan is summoning the courage today to do what is right. Hand over the identified boko haram sponsors to the international criminal court for investigation and prosecution" he said

PDP Fires back over Sheriff, Ihejirika; says Australian’s revelations prove APC behind Boko Haram





Nigeria’s ruling party, The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has hit back at the opposition All Progressives Congress, after the APC said recent allegations by a government-appointed Boko Haram negotiator, show that senior PDP members and allies of President Goodluck Jonathan are masterminds of the sect. At a press conference Tuesday, the APC demanded the immediate trial of a former governor of Borno State, Modu Sheriff, a PDP member; and a former army chief, Azubuike Ihejirika.

31 year old man arraigned in Court for sharing bad statements about Ogun state Governor on Facebook





A 31 year old man named Wasiu Ogunnoiki was arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Sagamu yesterday September 2nd for allegedly posting negative remarks about the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun on his Facebook wall. Ogunnoiki is alleged to have posted a message on Facebook saying that the state Governor had demolished the houses of some citizens without compensating them accordingly, a statement the government say they find unacceptable, and could incite the citizens against the governor.
