Pics: Over 20 pregnant women rescued from baby factory in Abia



Men of the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC have rescued over 20 young pregnant women in a baby factory it discovered at Umunkpeyi in Isiala Ngwa South LGA, following a tip off.

Parading the rescued women and some of the workers in the baby factory, the state commandant of NSCDC, Andy Dateer, said the baby factory is named Nma Charity and Motherless Babies’ Home,  and that the owner who is now at-large, brings in men to impregnate the girls. He said after delivery, the babies are sold, and the mothers paid peanuts.

Pastor Killed in Borno, whereabout of wife & children unknown



A pastor with the RCCG in Borno state, Pastor Taiwo Dokun was shot dead and butchered by Boko Haram men through the Monday July 14th attack on Dille village in Askira-Uba LGA of Borno state. The late pastor's wife and three students are feared to have been taken by the sect men who reportedly abducted many people on the afternoon of the attack. FIFA lifts ban on Nigeria



FIFA has lifted the ban on Nigeriaafter having a high court sitting in Jos sacked the President of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, Aminu Maigari and other board members. FIFA had frowned at the court ruling, stating that the move was a government interference in football activities which can be against its policy. FIFA then directed that the new court order reinstating Maigari and other NFF executives be obtained before it may lift the ban. The brand new court order reinstating the NFF President and other executives was obtained two days ago, Tuesday July 15th, hence the lifting of the ban today.  Maigari and his board will resume their duties tomorrow and stay there until next month's elections when they may be sacked through the ballot, consistent with FIFA's policies.

Russian Aviation Authorities Call on IAC to Investigate Malaysian Plane Crash in Ukraine



The crash of a Malaysia Airlines Boeing-777 in Ukraine should be investigated by the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) involving all the respective stakeholders, Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) said.
"We need to agree as soon as possible, so that the researchers, experts in plane crash investigation, IAC experts could examine the circumstances, collect the so-called black boxes, remove the dead bodies, identify the dead in the most appropriate place, so that the bodies can be given to the relatives for burial," Rosaviatsiya head Alexander Neradko said in an interview with Rossiya-24 television channel.

Rescuers Recover Second Black Box From Malaysia Airlines Crash in East Ukraine



 Rescue workers have recovered the second black box from the Malaysian Airlines passenger airplane that crashed in eastern Ukraine, Reuters reported citing an eyewitness Friday.
Earlier a spokesman from the Vostok Battalion said that they had found several objects that could be black boxes near the town of Torez where the aircraft crashed.
A Malaysia Airlines Boeing-777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed near the town of Torez in the Donetsk Region on Thursday. There were 283 passengers and 15 crew members on board, none of them survived.

Malaysia Airlines Boeing Crashes in Ukraine



Kazakhstan’s principle airline Air Astana has suspended its flights from Almaty to Kiev in connection with the crash of the Malaysian aircraft over the territory of Ukraine, the company said. A Malaysia Airlines Boeing-777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed near the city of Donetsk on Thursday. There were at least 280 passengers, including 23 US citizens, and 15 crew members on board. Flight controllers reported that the plane disappeared from radar screens while flying at an altitude of about 10,000 meters (some 33,000 feet). Witnesses told RIA Novosti the debris of the plane covers an area of about one square kilometer, and at least several dozen bodies were found scattered around the crash site

Assad sworn in for third term as Syrian president



Bashar al-Assad was sworn in for a new seven-year term as President of Syria for the third time on Wednesday, media reports. "I pledge to respect the constitution and protect the people of Syria," he said during a live broadcast on Syrian television at a red carpet ceremony held at the presidential palace in Damascus.

The presidential election was held last month in areas of central and northern Syria that still remain under state control by approximately 88.7 percent. Assad defeated two other candidates that were seen by some as puppets rather than actual opponents.

Self-defense fighters downed two Ukrainian strike aircraft – Donetsk People's Republic Read



The self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic downed two Sukhoi Su-25 assault aircraft belonging to the Two Ukrainian Air Force, which were attacking the positions of the region’s self-defense fighters, Interfax cites Donbas militia’s information center as saying.

"One of the aircraft was shot from a portable air defense system near Horlivka. It flew into clouds of smoke in the direction of Myrhorod airdrome. The situation with the second one is being clarified," the militia stated.
Other sources have not confirmed the fact as of yet.

Omisore seeks probe of alleged assassination plot



The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has called security agencies in the state to carry out a thorough investigation into the allegation of assassination plot levelled against him by the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Omisore said this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Monday by his media aide, Mr. Diran Odeyemi.
The spokesperson for the APC in the state, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, had on Saturday accused Omisore of plotting to assassinate four leaders of the ruling party in Osun State.

I’ve no governorship ambition, says Fola Adeola



A former Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Mr. Fola Adeola, has said that at 60 he is too old to contest the 2015 governorship election in Ogun State.
He said those linking him with the 2015 governorship election in Ogun State were not representing his ambition well.
Adeola, a delegate in the National Conference, made the clarification in Abuja against the background of a recent report that he was “oiling the machinery of his campaign” to take over from Governor Ibikunle Amosun, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress......

APC: GEJ desperate, behind Nyako’s removal.



THE opposition All Progressives Congress has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of masterminding the removal of ex-Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State.
The APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, called a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, where he accused the President of clamping down on opposition in his desire for re-election in 2015.
Odigie-Oyegun said, “Having bastardised the army, the police, the courts, aviation and the electoral commission, he has now moved to the next level: impeachment. Every impeachment or threat of it in recent times has the imprint of President Jonathan.
“As we speak, the Governor of Adamawa, Murtala Nyako, has been impeached at the instance of the President and his party; they have moved to Nasarawa, their next stop, while Rivers, Edo and Borno, all APC states, are not being spared the destabilisation that precedes their new-found weapon.“What was Nyako impeached for? Offences he allegedly committed five years ago. Those offences were not impeachable when he was in the Peoples Democratic Party. But the moment he defected to the APC, they became impeachable.”

War on Terror: Boko Haram gaining the upper hand -Danjuma



A former Minister of Defence, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), on Wednesday told President Goodluck Jonathan that the Boko Haram Islamic sect appeared to be having the upper hand in the ongoing terror war in the country.
He said more should be urgently done for the war to be won quickly.
Danjuma spoke at the inauguration of the Victims Support Fund by President Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The committee is saddled with the responsibilities of identifying sources and ways of raising sustainable funding to support victims of terror activities; and to develop appropriate strategies for the fund raising.

Reps summon Jega over Osun voter cards



The House of Representatives on Wednesday gave the Independent National Electoral Commission 48 hours to give a progress report on the distribution of the Permanent Voter Card in Osun State and other states of the Federation.
The House laid emphasis on the case of Osun State, the next state on the line for governorship election.
In passing a resolution on the issue in Abuja, it summoned the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to appear before the House Committee on Electoral Matters within 48 hours to give the progress report.

Lagos okays 6-month maternity leave, 10 days for fathers




The Lagos State Government has introduced a 10-day paternity leave for male civil servants and extended maternity leave for female worker to six months. Speaking at a joint press conference at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, the state Head of Service, Mrs Josephine Williams, said the new leave regime was meant to reduce the negative implication of the extensive work life of parents, who are civil servants in the state.
