Omisore seeks probe of alleged assassination plot

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has called security agencies in the state to carry out a thorough investigation into the allegation of assassination plot levelled against him by the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Omisore said this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Monday by his media aide, Mr. Diran Odeyemi.
The spokesperson for the APC in the state, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, had on Saturday accused Omisore of plotting to assassinate four leaders of the ruling party in Osun State.

The leaders which the APC claimed were on target list are: former Governor Isiaka Adeleke, who recently defected to APC, Mr. Peter Babalola (aka Peter Action), Chief Olu Abiola and Alhaji Fatai Oyedele.

But Omisore who described the APC’s allegation as unfounded, said while Governor Rauf Aregbesola had been promoting violence in his utterances and actions he (Omisore) had been preaching peace.
The PDP candidate urged members of the public to discountenance the allegation, which he described as a mischievous tactic of the ruling party.
He stated that he and other PDP leaders remained undeterred in a collective resolve to “rescue Osun State from the suffocating grips of the invaders.”

Omisore said that he had no business with assassins or any violent group but with the electorate who would vote out the APC on August 9.  He said, “We implore security operatives to investigate this allegation without further delay. Though it is not surprising that the APC, as a party, has chosen the pages of newspapers to address this weighty security issue, we observe that it is too sensitive to be used as a tool for reckless politicking and, therefore, must not be ignored.
“It is equally trite to remind the public that Otunba Omisore has defied the attempts of Aregbesola and his party to instigate violence in the state through provocative utterances, reckless abuse of power and outright call for arm struggle against the security apparatus of the nation.”
