A Woman bags 25 years in Cambodia for drug trafficking



A Cambodian Municipal Court yesterday June 11th sentenced 36 year old Nigerian woman, Collin Seniola Bosede to 25 years in prison for international drug trafficking after being found with 1.5kg of methamphetamine in her bag at the Phnom Penh International Airport in August 2013. 
 
Bosede, who was travelling to Cambodia from Nigeria on August 4th made a stop at Qatar where according to her confessional statement, she met with a Canadian man named Amad who handed her a bag containing cassette players, the drug, clothes and a laptop and asked her to give it to an unidentified man in Cambodia. She was arrested as she landed at the Phnom Penh Airport.

Gov. Fashola declares Today June 12 public holiday




Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola,  approved Thursday, June 12, 2014 as public vacation in urban center to commemorate the June twelve 1993 presidential election that was won by Late Chief Moshood Abiola.


The approval was contained during a circular signed  by the top of Service urban center State, Mrs Oluseyi Williams. The circular reads in part;
“In commemoration of June 12, 1993 as significant in the actualization of Democracy in Nigeria, it is hereby notified for general information that His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, the Governor of Lagos State, has approved Thursday, 12th June, 2014 as a work free day.”
I'm sure Lagos state workers will be happy to hear this. Work will resume on Friday, June 13th.

Prof. Dora Akunyili's Body arrives Nigeria



The body late professor. Dora Akunyili was this night received by members of her family as well as the former Governor of Anambra state, Mr Peter Obi at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja . Her body, accompained by her husband Dr Chike Akunyili and younger brother Dr. Anayo Edemobi , was flown into Nigeria in a personal jet and sent to a mortuary in Nigerian capital in an Ambulance.  Speaking with newsmen, Peter Obi Plans burial for the late academician will begin sharply.

Kate Henshaw Set To Participate In Dettol 50th Anniversary Walkathon



Nollywood star and fitness icon, Kate Henshaw, will be participating in a walkathon to promote children's health, which will take place in Lagos on Saturday (June 14, 2014). The walkathon is part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Dettol. The kickoff point and finishing point for the walkathon will be Teslim Balogun stadium (Surulere), and it will start at 6am. Kate Henshaw will engage participants, which will consist of young mums/women, students, teachers, and some male participants, in an aerobics exercise session before the walk kicks off.  The route is from Teslim Balogun stadium down to Costain and then back to Teslim Balogun stadium where there will be a little entertainment to round off the exercise.

Russia holds massive military drills in Kalinigrad region



Russia has airlifted 200 paratroopers and 30 military vehicles to its westernmost enclave of Kaliningrad amid the ongoing NATO war games in Europe, the Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday. "Il-76 planes have airlifted some 200 paratroopers and over 30 military vehicles to Kaliningrad, including air-droppable vehicles, such as infantry fighting vehicles BMD-2, armored personnel carriers BTR-2, Kamaz and Ural cars," the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry said.

On Wednesday, the Russian military announced the launch of a deployment operation that involved paratrooper units from the Pskov airborne division.

Police Ordered To Arrest Sanusi, New Emir Of Kano, For “Fraud”



The Nigerian police have been ordered to arrest the newly-crowned Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on fraud-related charges stemming from his tenure as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). According to reliable sources at the Presidency in Abuja, the team of policemen at the Emir’s palace in Kano received the order from the Nigeria police headquarters to place Mr. Sanusi under arrest if he leaves the Kano Governor’s lodge.

Ekiti State Deputy Governor's daughter's husband dies




The deputy Governor of Ekiti state, Professor Mrs Modupe Adelabu recently lost her son-in-law, Dr Oluwaseun Fasawe (pictured left). Late Dr Fasawe, a medical consultant & Chief Medical Director of Silver River Healthcare was married to the 1st daughter of the deputy governor, Dr Dolapo Fasawe ... (pictured right).

According to family sources, the late Dr Fasawe left for London on Monday May 19th for what was called corrective surgery scheduled for June 2nd. He reportedly started having difficulty in breathing on Thursday May 29th while in London and called a friend to notify him. The friend immediately called for an ambulance but sadly, while on their way to the hospital, he died. 

Fresh attacks in Plateau state, 6 dead, 2 churches razed



Gunmen launched an attack on residents of Gako and Tanjol communities in Riyom LGA of Plateau State in the early hours of this morning June 11th, killing at least 6 people and burning 2 churches.
 
Residents of the communities say five officers of the Police Special Task Force were also killed but this has not been verified.
 
Confirming today's attack, an Assistant Superintendent of Police and state Police spokesperson, Mr. Dominic Esin who spoke with Premium Times said 5 other people were injured in the attack and they have all been hospitalized

Woman brutally attacked & injured in the eye by her father




 The photo on the left shows the horrific injuries a Sikh woman suffered after being attacked by her father-in-law because he thought she was having an affair with a Muslim man.

Jageer Mirgind was left blind and scarred for life after 51-year-old Manjit Mirgind slashed her wrists and stabbed her in the eyes screaming 'I am going to kill you'.

Mrs Mirgind’s children, just three and six years old, watched the horrific attack at their mum's home in Kensington Gardens, Ilford, East London, and pleaded with their grandfather to stop. Continue...

Trouble As Fulani Herdsmen Invade the people of Ezeagu LGA In Enugu With AK 47





The people of Enugu in over forty communities in Ezeagu LGA of the state are currently panicking, following the invasion of their towns by Fulani herdsmen allegedly armed with sophisticated AK 47 rifles.

19-Year Old Who molested Blind Grandmother Has A Case To Answer- Magistrate





A Yaba chief magistrate’s court in Lagos, yesterday, held that a teenager, Avoseh Satingo, has a case to answer in the alleged rape of an 80-year-old blind woman.

It, therefore, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody. The Magistrate made this known following advice by the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She said the DPP advised that a prima facie case had been established against 19-year-old Satingo.

Noted broadcaster, Edmund Obilo, had just aired an interview that exposed how the Alafin of Oyo, and the Oyo State governor, had allegedly been sharing the money belonging to the state, under the guise of fake contracts. A Nigerian House of representatives member, Kamil Akinlabi reveals this secret on “bull’s eye,” a popular radio interview program, anchored by Mr. Obilo.

The management of the Ibadan-based Splash FM, had shortly afterwards fired one of their best broadcasters, Mr. Edmund Obilo, on Friday on the request of the Oyo State governor, Mr. Abiola Ajimobi.

President Jonathan nominates Alison-Madueke as Secretary-General of OPEC



 Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been nominated by President Jonathan to become Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), when the tenure of incumbent Abdullah al-Badri of Iraq expires in December 2014, Sahara Reporters reports.
If the move sails through, Alison-Madueke will become the first female Secretary-General of OPEC. 74-year-old al-Badri has been Secretary-General of OPEC since 2007. He was also Libyan Minister for Oil and Electricity between 1990 and 2000.
