Nigerian doctor guilty of assaulting patient has been acquitted



The Nigerian doctor, Abiodun Bale, who was simply charged &  found guilty of attacking women patient in his surgery when she disagreed with his diagnosis (if you missed it,read here) has been acquitted. 

Lancashire Telegraph  
reports that Dr Bale appealed against his conviction last December and won.

Dr Bale agreed there was a dispute but did not agree he had touched the female patient. He claimed that during a ‘breakdown'between himself and the patient, she was dissatisfied with the procedure & advice and decided to make a false claim about assault.

FIFA probes match-fixing allegation against Nigeria

The world football governing body FIFA has started investigation into a recent allegation that the Super Eagles’ 2010 World Cup qualifying matches were rigged for them.
The spokesperson for the Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Ademola Olajire, confirmed to The PUNCH on Wednesday that they have received correspondence from FIFA on the matter.

Dolce and Gabba bagged 20-months each for Tax Evasion



Creative Directors of D&G, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been found guilty of tax evasion to the tune of $1.3bn. The verdict was announced this afternoon after hours of consideration by a three-judge panel who chose to uphold last June's guilty verdict that saw the designers both sentenced to 20-months in prison for allegedly committing tax evasion, Vogue UK reports.
The alleged crime is said to have been a consequence of the sale of these Dolce & Gabbana and D&G brands to the Luxembourg-based holding company Gado Srl in 2004......

Citizens Tax Compliance : Sign of Serious Government - Shodipo




Lagos State Government has said the compliance by the tax payers in prompt payment of tax is due to the confidence they repose in the Government as well as their witness to delivery of democratic dividends by the State Government.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation, Mr. Bola Shodipo disclosed this at the Press briefing to commemorate the 3rd year and 2nd term of Mr. Babatunde Fashola administration in the State.
He said the number of Tax payers in the State now stands at 4, 216 751 as against about 2.8 million in the last two years while 65, 572 of this taxpayers are yet to collect their electronic tax clearance certificate (E-TCC) cards.

There are reports that the ongoing protest by striking lecturers of Nigeria’s polytechnics and colleges of education at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, has been disrupted by the police.   The peaceful protest, which was organized to show displeasure at the Federal Government’s handling of the strike which is about 11 months old now was disrupted on Tuesday morning when police officers fired tear-gas at the protesters, made up of lecturers and students. 

14yr old girl kills another 14yr old girl after Facebook struggle over a boy



14 year old Endia Martin (pictured above) was killed on Monday April 28th by another 14 year old girl after they argued on Facebook about a boy. Is this what 14 year olds should really be doing? Fighting over boys and killing each other? 

According to Chicago Times, the handgun used to kill Endia Martin have been brought to the scene by somebody who knew the suspect and knew'there was going to be a battle'Chicago police said
"What would have been, under any other circumstance, probably a fistfight between 14-year-old girls, because they were fighting over a boy, turned into a murder. You introduce a firearm and you have a murder." The police said

Trade Union Congress (TUC): Kill public official who steals above ₦1m



The Trade Union Congress has recommended death  penalty for public officials who embezzle beyond N1m in order to reduce corruption in the country.
The President of the TUC, Bobboi Kaigama, said this during the fourth lecture series of the Faculty of Environmental Design and Management, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Tuesday.
While speaking on the theme, ‘Corruption and challenges in nation-building’, Kaigama noted that Nigeria needed to go tougher in its war against corruption.
He said that leaders had no reason not to declare their assets.

I didn’t stop Diezani’s probe –Judge



Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja  on Tuesday denied claims by the House of Representatives that he issued an order stopping investigations into the  allegations that Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, spent N10bn to charter a private jet  for her trips in the last two years.

 The  judge therefore summoned the House   to appear before the court on May 5 to “clear the air” on the  issue.

Police arrest vice-principal for raping pupil



The police in Ekiti State have arrested a 57-year-old Vice-Principal of St. Mary Girls College, Ikole Ekiti, Mr. Ayo Ajayi, for allegedly raping a 12-year-old pupil of the school inside his office.
Our correspondent gathered that the pupil had gone to the office of the vice-principal on March 18 and she did not come out as quickly as expected. This was said to have fueled the suspicion of some teachers.

One of the teachers, who reported the case to the police, was said to have moved closer to the door to open it but discovered that the door had been locked from inside.
She was said to have knocked on the door and the pupil and the suspect allegedly hurriedly stopped what they were busy doing inside.

Govs’ removal: Falana tells Jonathan to ignore Clark



Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has asked President Goodluck Jonathan to ignore a call by a First Republic minister and prominent Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, to remove the governors of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, on the account of subsisting emergency rule in the states.  Falana said in a statement on Tuesday that the call was diversionary and the act of removing elected governors or suspending democratic institutions during emergency rule in a state was illegal.

Five persons have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over allegation of fraudulent transfer of a total of N5, 550,000.00 (Five Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) from an account in Skye Bank.

The suspects, Ademola Okunlola, 36; Tajudeen Oluwanisola, 41; Kolawole Adams, 52; Temitope Pedro, 27; Bayo Olowoyo, 39 and Otunba Biodun Adebanjo, 56, were picked up in different locations in Lagos by operatives of the anti- graft agency for allegedly effecting the fraudulent transfer of N5, 550,000.00 from the account of one Ajani Kareem Musibau domiciled in Skye Bank Plc. .........

Nyanya, Abuja blast: Experts identify bodies of two bombers



Forensic  experts  have successfully established the identities of two men that  participated in  the bombing  of  Nyanya, a satellite community bordering the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa State  on  April 14, 2014.
Security sources told one of our correspondents in Abuja  on Monday  that the experts   identified  their  bodies  using certain scientific variables, including body tissues.
It was learnt that they also   identified the third suicide bomber, who managed to escape from the scene before the explosion.

ABUJA- FORMER governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Solomon Alamieyeseigha Monday lampooned former President Olusegun Obasanjo, accusing him of having the list  of oil thieves in Nigeria, but he shielded them during his administration.
Alamieseigha also declared that 50 percent of Nigerian oil was stolen daily and  accused foreign embassies of having full knowledge of illegal purchase of crude oil from Nigeria.
