R.I.P: Nollywood Actress, Ijeoma Okori Buried Amid Tears
The remains of Nollywood actress, Ijeoma Okori, who died during childbirth in early February 2014, was finally laid to rest on Saturday, February 22, 2014 in her hometown in Imo State.
It was gathered that many could not hold back tears as the late 27-year-old woman laid to rest. The deceased was a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Rivers State chapter before her untimely death.
Gunmen Abduct President GEJ's cousin in Bayelsa
According to a report by Punch, President Jonathan's cousin, Chief Inengite Nitabai was abducted yesterday Sunday February 23rd in the Otuoke community in Bayelsa State by unknown gunmen.
Nitabai, who is said to be the compound chief of Jonathan's family, was abducted by 10 suspected kidnappers about 9pm yesterday. Six of the assailants reportedly forced their way into the house, while the rest of the four stayed outside, monitoring activities. GEJ is surrounded by ‘incompetent’ frauds – SLS
LAGOS (AFP) – Nigeria’s ousted central bank chief Lamido Sanusi on Sunday described the president who ousted him as a simple man trying to do well who has been undermined by incompetent and fraudulent aides.
“When you sit with President Goodluck Jonathan himself he appears a nice simple person who is trying his best to do his best,” Sanusi told AFP in an interview. “His greatest failing obviously is that he is surrounded by people who are extremely incompetent, who are extremely fraudulent and whom he trusts.”

As at the time I came into office, several things had collapsed. From banks to stock exchange, they had crashed. Inflation was at 15.6percent three months before I became Central Bank Governor; there was already instability in every sector of the economy. When I look back, I thank God for the people who supported us and criticized us as well because criticism has made us stronger. Lavrov talking to Kerry stresses need of observance of agreement on political settlement in Ukraine
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry had a telephone conversation on Sunday at the initiative of the US side.
The Russian Foreign Ministry reports that the ministers continued to discuss the situation in Ukraine in line with an understanding between the presidents of the two countries who spoke on the phone two days ago.
"On our part it was stressed that the main thing now is to guarantee full implementation of the February 21 agreement on a political settlement from which the Ukrainian opposition that actually seized power in Kyiv refrains refusing to lay down arms and continuing to stake on violence," the statement says.
Bringing of Russian troops to Ukraine would be "grave mistake" - US national security adviser
US President Barack Obama's national security adviser, Susan Rice, said on Sunday it would be a "grave mistake" for Russia to send military forces into Ukraine and that it is not in the interest of Russia, Europe or the United States to see Ukraine split apart.
Speaking on the NBC program "Meet the Press," Rice was asked about a possible scenario in which Russia would send forces into Ukraine to restore a government more friendly to Moscow.
"That would be a grave mistake. It's not in the interests of Ukraine or of Russia or of Europe or the United States to see a country split.
New Ukrainian leader declares determination to cooperate with Russia
Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Alexander Turchinov, who received temporary presidential powers on Sunday, declared determination to cooperate with Russia in a TV message to the Ukrainian people.
He pointed out that relations with Russia should be based on equality and good-neighbourliness, on recognizing and respecting Ukraine’s European option.
Turchinov said that the Ukrainian government’s main targets are economic recovery and focus on European integration.
