200 poisoned with unknown gas in California.



About 200 people are reported to have been poisoned with unknown chemical agent in the western US city of Monrovia in California, a Voice of Russia correspondent reports on the ground. According to the latest media reports, the victims’ tally has surged from 150 up to 200 people. At least 45 of them were brought to hospital with signs of asphyxiation, bouts of asthma and pains in the chest.

Tens of thousands of people are joining world leaders at a memorial service for former South African President Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg. The service is being held at the FNB stadium, where Mr Mandela made his last public appearance. It is also being shown on big screens at three "overflow" stadiums.

1 1/2-year-old child with two of his siblings burnt to death in Lagos.



A one and a half year old child with two of his siblings were, weekend  burnt to death in an inferno that engulfed a building and a church in Iba Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Lagos State, leaving property worth millions of Naira destroyed.

Also, two unidentified dredgers got drowned in a 70-feet domestic well in Ojo Local Government, Lagos.
The deceased siblings identified as Imoleayo, Ismaila who is eight years old and Busayo Ganiyu, were said to have been sleeping when the fire started.

22 Year Old Nigerian Murdered In The US While Selling His Playstation 4



San Francisco police has arrested a 21-year-old man who they say killed another man over a PlayStation 4.
The suspect, Ronnie Collins, made arrangements online to buy the new console from the victim, 22-year-old Ikenna Uwakah. Uwakah[Above] was shot at 3:30 p.m. and died in the hospital Sunday, NBC News reports. Collins was arrested on Monday.

ASUU Strike: This Government Is Not Ready, The Strike Continues



Public university lecturers under the umbrella of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Sunday insisted that they would not return to the classrooms on Monday as directed by the federal government.

They also accused the President Gooodluck Jonathan-led Government of insincerity in its bid to resolve the 6 months old dispute. ASUU President, Dr. Nasir Fagge, confirmed their stand to go on with the strike...
The Federal Government had through the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, deferred its earlier ultimatum to the lecturers to resume work on Monday (today) or risk being sacked. The shift was to enable them to participate in the burial of Prof. Festus Iyayi, a former president of ASUU on Saturday.

Catholic priest goes gaga , Pulls Out Gun, Threatens To Shoot Church Members In Imo State.



. As you read this, a Catholic priest in Imo State is being investigated by the police after reports that he was illegally in possession of weapons.  The Reverend Father is said to be in charge of a parish in the Dikenafai environs of the Ideato South LGA of the state. He is said to have threatened members of his parish and endangered their lives with three unlicensed guns believed to be in his possession, without approval.

Facebook Set To Introduce Sympathise Option?



Facebook is considering rolling out a ‘sympathise’ option as an alternative to ‘like’.The option to ‘sympathise’ with a post on the social networking site would becomeavailable if a user had used a negative emotion in their status update, and could remove the incongruity of ‘liking’ news of a tragic event.The ‘sympathise’ button was developed at a previous Facebook hackathon but resurfaced at a separate ‘compassion research day’ web event last week. However, there are no firm plans to introduce it on the live site.

ASUU Strike Update- Federal Government Summons VCs, ASUU To Abuja



Following the refusal of university lecturers to resume classes at the expiration of the 9 December ultimatum, the Federal Government has summoned all Vice Chancellors of federal and state universities to a crucial meeting in Abuja on Wednesday. 

Also invited to the meeting were  members of the Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) On Needs Assessment Report for inauguration.

Manchester United Lover In kenya Commits Suicide After Loss To Newcastle.



A Kenyan fan unable to cope with Manchester United's loss to Newcastle committed suicide over the weekend. Police in Nairobi confirmed the incident on Monday.  John Macharia, 28, plunged to his death from a multi-storey apartment block in Nairobi after the Red Devils suffered a second home defeat in four days. Newcastle's first win at Old Trafford since February 1972 means the reigning champions are now 13 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
"Macharia jumped from seventh floor of an apartment at Pipeline Estate after realising that his team Manchester United lost 1-0 to Newcastle at Old Trafford and committed suicide," said Nairobi's County Police Commander Benson Kibui.

Wife Slumps At House Of Reps Member's Burial, Tambuwal & Mimiko In tears Uncontrollably




Hon. Raphael Nomiye Groovy, who represented Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency of Ondo State in the House of Representatives was laid to rest over the weekend.

The funeral was almost halted as the the widow of the deceased, Mrs. Nabi Nomiye, slumped at the occasion, some minutes before the internment of her husband. She was immediately taken up to the State Specialist Hospital in Okitipupa by the Chief of Staff to the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Kola Ademujimi, a medical doctor and she was attended to by specialists. The funeral continued after she was revived.

Mandela Family Begins Sharing Over $15 Million Fortune.

President Goodluck Jonathan spoke yesterday of the virtues of a good politicians, saying intimidation and threats by some cannot make them great like like the late Nelson Mandela. He spoke while making a tribute to the late Nelson Mandela, the anti-apartheid and South African’s first black president, during the special inter-denominational memorial service held in his honour at the Aso Villa Chapel in the State House, Abuja.

Unlike Mandela, he pointed out, many politicians in Nigeria resort to intimidation, threats and show of force in their communication. According to him, it would be difficult for a politician to be truly great than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle.

Corruption: $2.6 trillion stolen annually, says AfDB.



The African Development Bank (AfDB) says an estimated 2.6 trillion dollars is stolen annually through high level corrupt practises in Africa. Dr Donald Kaberuka, AfDB’s President said today as part of activities to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day.

He said that the figure amounted to more than five per cent equivalence of the global GDP. According to AfDB one trillion dollars were being paid in bribes across the world every year. Kaberuka said that corruption had become a global threat, causing a serious roadblock to economic development and prosperity.

Kanye West denies comparing herself to Nelson Mandela stating he would not ‘dishonor or trivialize' the uplifting leader



Rapper Kanye West has denied reports that he compared himself to Nelson Mandela. In a series of tweets, Kanye has explained how he was misquoted and set the record straight over his supposed comments.
The Daily Currant had run a ‘fake’ interview with Kanye, where they quoted him as saying ‘I liberate minds with my music. That’s more important than liberating a few people from apartheid or whatever.’

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — South Africans of all races flocked to houses of worship Sunday for a national day of prayer and reflection to honor Nelson Mandela, unified in their love for a historic figure whose funeral is expected to be one of the biggest in modern times.  At the Regina Mundi Church that was near the epicenter of the Soweto township uprising in 1976 against white rule, Father Sebastian J. Rossouw described Mandela as “moonlight,” saying he offered a guiding light for South Africa. Hundreds of people attended the Mass.

U.S. war veteran released by North Korea returns home.



(Reuters) – An 85-year-old Korean War veteran held for more than a month by North Korea as a war criminal arrived in San Francisco on Saturday to be reunited with his family

North Korea detained Merrill E. Newman for crimes it accused him of committing during the conflict six decades ago as a member of the U.S. special forces. He was released for humanitarian reasons after he apologized, the country’s state news agency said.
