EU aid offer for Ukraine to sign pact is embarrassing - Ukrainian President

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich said on Tuesday that the terms of a financial aid offer from the EU have been humiliating and he'd consider signing a landmark free trade pact with the bloc only once it suited Ukraine's interests.

He said the EU had offered aid worth 610 million euros and had linked this to Ukraine agreeing on a fresh programme with the International Monetary Fund which itself had laid down unacceptable conditions.

"We don't need to be humiliated like this. We are a significant country. A European one," he explained in a television declaration. "When it corresponds to our interests, when we have agreed (with the EU) on normal conditions, (only) then can we consider signing," he explained

Following the recent meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, supervising minister and minister of state for education, Barr Nyesom Wike, on Monday condemned the new conditions which the union insists must be met before a truce could be achieved.
The minister expressed this view while meeting with state commissioners of education in Abuja. He confirmed that ASUU had given new conditions to call off its four-month-old strike.
According to him, "ASUU has given new conditions, after they had an agreement with President Goodluck Jonathan at the villa."

The new education policy in Osun State claimed its first casualty on Monday as fierce-looking Muslim youths invaded the Baptist High School, Ejigbo, and beat up the students and teachers.

The principal of the school, Mr. Layi Oguntola, was thoroughly beaten and injured. Oguntola, as of the time of this report, was said to be receiving treatment at the Baptist Medical Centre, Ejigbo.

The attackers said they came because the school authorities stopped some Muslim pupils from wearing the hijab.

Adaobi Obih Alleged killer Ryan Klug Nabbed in Texas

 The prime suspect in the murder of 26 year old Nigerian, Adaobi. M. Obih, has been apprehended in Texas. Ryan Allen Klug was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals near Galveston, Texas on Saturday Nov. 23rd, four days after his roommate Adaobi was found dead in the flat they shared in Indiana.

The International Aviation School, Ilorin on Monday announced the involvement of one its plane in a crash. It said among their aircraft- Diamond DA4000 single-engine with subscription quantity 5N-BRD was involved up in incident at about 11.33a.m.

Briefing newsmen on the incident, the Working Rector of the Institution, AbdulKarim Nuhu said three individuals were aboard the aircraft.

Iyayi’s Burial: ASUU Bars Government Officials from participating.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has barred government officials from participating in the burial programmes of its former president, Festus Iyayi.
The union is also demanding that an autopsy be performed on the corpse of Iyayi, to determine the actual cause of death.
The autopsy demand followed controversy over the actual cause of the death of the late ASUU activist.
A statement issued by the UNIBEN ASUU chapter, stated: "Professor Festus Iyayi did not just die in an accident but that he was willfully murdered by the state and its agents."
