Voting in Syria's presidential election, being held Tuesday, has been extended by five hours to allow more people to participate, state television said. "The high electoral committee has decided to extend the election for five hours, because of the massive influx of voters," until midnight (21:00 GMT), it stated. President Bashar al-Assad, who has been fighting a three-year old revolt against his rule, is expected to win the vote.
More than 162,000 people have been killed and millions have been forced to flee their homes in the three years since the civil broke out in 2011.
