Last Saturday, there was a drama at Sonde Apon, a rural community in Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State, as elder women staged a protest over the invasion of their community by hoodlums who are suspected to have been sent by land speculators from a nearby community. The invaders, numbering 20, were said to have stormed the community and unleashed terror on the residents.

10 students crushed to death, 50 vehicles damaged in Ogun, Nigeria.
ABEOKUTA—Emotions ran high, Wednesday afternoon when a truck rammed into a school building in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, killing no fewer than 10 students, while 50 vehicles were damaged. An eyewitness, who was part of the rescue team before the arrival of officers of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, told Vanguard that it involved students of Itori Comprehensive High School.

Ogun State Governor, Amosun Sacks LG Boss, Others
Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun yesterday sacked the leadership of Ijebu-East Local Government Area for undisclosed reasons. However, sources close to the governor’s office, Oke Mosan linked the governor’s action to a fraud and distrust among principal officers of the council, which threatened the unity of the area. The state government also announced composition of a panel of enquiry to investigate allegations levelled against both the executive and legislative arm of the council.

Lepers Ask For Increment In Ogun State
Lepers in Ogun lepers’ colony on Tuesday called for an increase in the monthly stipend of N3,000 the government pays them. Mr George Odunawo, the lepers’ spokesman made the call when members of Ogun NUJ visited the lepers’ settlement in Abeokuta as parts of activities marking the 2012 NUJ Press Week. Odunawo said the lepers need better welfare package as well as improved living conditions.
“The government should not forget us here as most of us are aged.”

Four Die, 10 Injure In Ogun Auto Crash
Four people yesterday were reportedly killed while 10 sustained various degrees of injury in an auto crash that occured on Abeokuta-Lagos road in Onihale village in Ifo local government area of Ogun State.
According to an eye-witness, the accident involved a Lagos-bound bus with registration number Lagos XY178 LSR which skided off the road and summersaulted while coming from Abeokuta.

Lagos Politician Killed In Ogun State ( Toyin Hamzat)
A former Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Fashola, Toyin Hamzat, has been shot dead by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Ogun State. Hamzat, a former Chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area and a former Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Health, was shot in the head on Sunday in Sagamu, Ogun State on Sunday evening. Hamzat was reportedly shot around 9pm on the expressway around Sagamu. He was said to be returning from his country home in the area when he was attacked
