Kaduna Govt confirms there’s suspected case of Ebola at ABU





The Kaduna State Government has confirmed that there is indeed a suspected case of Ebola Virus Disease in the state. This is contrary to the claim by the claim by Dan Nwomeh, the spokesperson to the Minister of Health than an earlier report by this newspaper on the matter was false. PREMIUM TIMES had reported that a 19- year old student of Law at the Ahmadu Bello University was suspected to be down with the deadly Ebola virus in Kaduna and was on admission at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, ABUTH. As indicated in the report, Bilyaminu Umar, spokesperson for ABUTH, confirmed the development. But no sooner than our report was published than the spokesperson to the Minister, Mr. Nwomeh, took to the social media to say the story was false.

DR Congo confirms two deaths from Ebola





Authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo say two people have died from Ebola in the country’s North-West. They are the first reported Ebola cases outside West Africa since the outbreak there began, although it is not clear if they are directly linked to that outbreak. So far 1,427 people have died from the virus. The speed and extent of the outbreak has been “unprecedented”, the World Health Organisation says. An estimated 2,615 people in West Africa have been infected with Ebola since March.

Just In: Israel confirms airstrike on Syria





Israeli officials confirm that the Air Force has conducted an airstrike on Syrian territory, Russia Today reports quoting Associated Press. They said they targeted a shipment of advanced missiles.
The unnamed officials said the target weapons were not chemical, but were bound for Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement and were sophisticated enough to prompt the Israeli strike on early Friday.

On Friday media in Lebanon reported that Israeli jets conducted several sorties into Lebanese airspace, with some of them flying in circles over the capital, Beirut. Lebanon’s army website had listed an unusual 16 flights by Israeli warplanes penetrating Lebanese airspace from Thursday evening through Friday afternoon local time. Lebanon's President Michel Suleiman condemned the flyovers, branding them a “continuation of Israel's policy of aggression” and called on the international community to put pressure on Tel Aviv to stop this practice.

Governor confirms four dead in Emir of Kano attack





The Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has confirmed that four people died when gunmen attacked the Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero on Saturday morning.
Mr. Kwankwaso spoke to journalists shortly after emerging from the Emir’s private quarters where he went to commiserate with him. He said the four dead include the emir’s driver, orderly, and palace guards. Meanwhile, reports say the former Chairman of Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano, Salisu Kura, was also killed during the attack.

Sidney Sam Confirms Nigeria Commitment






Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Sidney Sam has finally given a firm commitment that his international future lies with Nigeria. Initially courted by former coach Samson Siasia and further prodded by Stephen Keshi, Sam has now made it clear he will turn out in the green and white strip.

Keshi revealed that the player gave his word after he told him that Nigeria was his fatherland and he should come and be part of the setting for the Nations Cup.“He’s keen to join up with us, so we will wait and see how he responds when we open camp for the Nations Cup, but I have spoken to him and he sounded very enthusiastic to be part of the set-up.” The 24-year-old has played for Germany at youth level, but remains legible to play for Nigeria, his father's country of origin.
