Northern youths back Atiku for 2015 Presidency

Northern youths on Sunday in Kaduna asked former Head of State and Chief of the All Progressive Congress, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), to shelve his ambition of contesting the 2015 presidential election. Instead, they asked Buhari to support his kinsman and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the flag bearer of the main opposition party in 2015.

The youth, under the aegis of the of Northern Youths Voters Forum, who converged on the Arewa House, Kaduna on Sunday, said they wanted the former Vice President to pick the presidential ticket of the APC in 2015 because, he “is the only one that knows the antics” of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party during elections.

The NYVF, who claimed to be the representatives of youths in 18 states of the region, said they had resolved to visit the former Nigerian(Buhari) so as to prevail on him to step down for the Turakin Adamawa.

Besides, the youth also urged Northern leaders, who want to vie for the 2015 presidency on the platform of the APC, to have a rethink and rally round the former Vice President.
The National Co-coordinator of NYVF, Idris Ibrahim, in his address at the event said,
“We have resolved to visit General Buhari and to inform him not to pursue any ambition of contesting the 2015 Presidency any longer because after contesting for the office on three occasion, it is time he supports Atiku to contest for the position under APC platform.”

While urging other northern presidential aspirants on the APC platform to rally round Atiku, the youth leader said, “
At this time when the nation is facing series of challenges the north should come together and present a formidable Presidential material to defeat any candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.”

He noted that after series of meetings held in Zamfara, Niger, Sokoto, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Plateau and Kano states, the executive council of the forum decided to endorse Atiku as the presidential aspirant in the 2015 general election because “Atiku saves Nigerian democracy by standing on a negative side against a proposed third term of Obasanjo regime”.

“He knows the PDP’s maneuver above any other candidate; as knowing your enemy is the key success to knock him down,” he added.
