First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola, on Saturday called for a more responsive society that will take good care of the elderly ones and also make life more meaningful for them.

Dame Fashola, made this known at the party organized for the elderly members of the Lagos society to celebrate this year’s Valentine’s Day by the Committee Of Wives of Lagos State Government Officials (COWLSO) at the Retirement Villa located in Lekki Phase 11 Ajah area of the state.

In her address, the Chairman of COWLSO, Dame Abimbola Fashola said they decided to use Valentine season to celebrate the senior citizens in the state in order to create a platform for them to enjoy themselves.

"My own believe is that we must always take good care of the elderly. It doesn't mean it must be your parent or relatives but everybody. We should love our elders and make life meaningful for them”, she said.
"They have gotten to the age where we are expected to take good care of them. This will help them to have a better old age. They have taken care of us when we knew nothing about the world. This is the time to reciprocate by caring for them. And we must do it diligently".
Speaking on the essence of the facility at the Retirement Villa, she explained that the credit should go to my predecessor, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who acquired the land for the villa.

"She gave birth to the idea. It is meant to cater for retirees who are still active and want to contribute to the development of the society to relive their youth. And because we don't have the facility in the country, we believe that there is need for us to do so".

She said it took the committee two years to erect the structure because the funds used were realised from the women conferences.

According to her,
"My own contribution to today's event is to open the Retirement Villa for the Senior Valentine's event. This is what the Villa is meant for. It is meant for the senior citizens to have a place to converge, listen to old music and relive their youths. "We commissioned this place last year's June and we are yet to make full use of the facilities".

Among those present at the event were Chief Molade okoya-Thomas, Mrs Cecilia Fashola, Alhaja Abba Folawiyo, the retired Lagos State civil servants, among others.
