Rival cult groups went on rampage at Okwagbe community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, weekend, leaving a 23-year old man, Victor Odoye, dead.
The police, however, responded immediately and arrested 10 suspected cultists.
The leader of one of the cult groups, identified by the police as an ex-militant, Solomon, is, however, on the run.
The cause of the clash was not clear, but Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Famous Ajieh, who confirmed Odoye’s death to Vanguard, said the cultists used dangerous weapons.
He said: “The police received information that two cult groups fought themselves with dangerous weapons at Saint Vincent College, Okwagbe, and one Victor Odoye, aged 23, was killed by cultists during the cult war.”
Vanguard learnt that the warring cultists fled on sighting police operatives, who stormed the school.
“Police swung into action immediately and with the help of Okwagbe vigilante men, 10 of the hoodlums, aged between 18 and 27, were arrested,” he said.
He said the police had launched a manhunt for the fleeing hoodlums, adding that two daggers were recovered at the scene.
“The remains of the deceased were deposited in the mortuary of General Hospital, Otu-Jeremi,” he added
