So did Syriza win a victory?

by Alexander Mercouris
Since Greek was granted a 4 month extension there has been a sustained attempt both within Greece and in the English speaking world to claim that it is Syriza rather than the EU hardliners that came out ahead on points.  This is the view of Tsipras but also the view of such Anglophone commentators ranging from Jack Rasmus on the far left to Paul Krugman on the liberal left and to Ambrose Evans-Pritchard on the right.

The European Union’s military: yet another sign of impotence

You probably have heard of the European attempt to reacquire some relevance: the proposal to create a “European Union Army”.  In part, this is, as an attempt by the Europeans to show that they matter, that they can do something by themselves, that they are not completely US lackeys.  This might also be a reaction to the crazy statements of General Philip Breedlove, the Commander of the U.S. European Command and the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) whose inflammatory comments even got him a full-length rebuttal in Der Spiegel (There are even rumors that the Europeans want Breedlove sacked).

Russia's Commitment to Multi-Polar World Challenges US World wide Hegemon.

Russia's strong determination to guard its national interests and promote a multi-polar world order has dealt a serious blow to Washington's aspirations to rule the entire world, American publicist Mike Whitney noted. putin1
Ekaterina Blinova
 — Russia's determination to protect its national interests and pursue an unbiased foreign policy, regardless of Western pressure, is viewed by Washington as an "unforgivable crime," according to Mike Whitney.
In February 2007 during his famous speech at the 43rd Munich Security Conference Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized the course of American foreign policy, providing a comprehensive analysis of the devastating consequences of US interventionism and its negative impact on global security. President Putin also denounced the unipolar model as unacceptable, impossible and contradictory the core values of modern civilization: "This really is pernicious not just for dozens of within this technique, but also for the sovereign itself since it destroys itself from within," he warned, pledging his commitment to a multi-polar world. American publicist Mike Whitney underscored that President Putin's candid observation left a strong impression on US policy-makers, who thought that by prevailing in the Cold War the United States became the sole super-power in a brand new "Washington-centric" global system. "Now they knew that Putin would not dance to Washington's tune," the publicist stressed. Russia's firm determination to pursue an unbiased foreign policy has been viewed by Washington as an "unforgivable crime," that poses a critical challenge to American global hegemony.   To date, the United States has signaled it goes to deal with this "problem" by any means necessary, including economic sanctions, a Washington-backed military coup in Ukraine, a conspiracy to crash oil prices, an attack against the ruble and a proxy-war in Donbas region using neo-Nazi fighters. Numerous false flag operations aimed to discredit the Russian president and to drive a wedge between Moscow and its European partners will also be getting used by Washington in order to shake up Russia's political system, the publicist pointed out. "Now the Pentagon is planning to send 600 paratroopers to Ukraine ostensibly to "train the Ukrainian National Guard," a critical escalation that violates the spirit of the next Minsk 2 and which calls for a proportionate response from the Kremlin," noted Mike Whitney, stressing that "the US doesn't have red lines in regards to achieving its strategic goals." To date, Whitney suggested that the murder of Boris Nemtsov, an agent of the Kremlin's opposition, has been carried out as a component of a bigger regime change scheme, directed to provoke social unrest in Russia and destabilize the government. The publicist noted that the US has practiced this kind of scenario in various color-coded revolutions before and stressed that shortly after Nemtsov was killed in Moscow,  western media sources unanimously pointed the accusing finger to the Kremlin regardless of the very fact they'd no evidence to support their claims.   The publicist reminded that the United States has repeatedly used similar tactics putting pressure on Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, Syria and countless other nations to cause them to "march in lockstep" to the directives of the White House. However, regardless of this pressure, Russia has withstood NATO encirclement and Washington's attempts "to loot Russia's natural resources" as well as to alter the configuration of international security by implementing elements of the US nuclear capability in Europe. Resisting further eastward expansion of NATO, Russia in addition has blocked Washington's Asia pivot strategy aimed to undermine the Russian Federation, encircle China, maintain control over Eurasia's resources flow and establish the unipolar hegemony of the United States, Whitney emphasized.

Advertisers Shocked to Find Their Ads Run Before ISIL Videos on YouTube

Smooth skin, cold beer, a clean kitchen floor - all perfectly normal things to advertise to average consumers. But potential terrorists? Some major brands are less than pleased that their pre-roll commercials are running before Islamic State recruitment videos on Youtube.
Big advertisers — like Budweiser, Aveeno, Proctor & Gamble, and Swiffer — have been shocked to find that their ads are being paired with propaganda videos for Islamist militants currently overrunning vast swathes of the Middle East and beheading innocent prisoners on camera.

How MH17 was shot down – analysis by Colonel Cassad

Colonel Cassad has just published an interesting analysis about how MH17 was shot down (please see here for the original Russian text: http://colonelcassad.livejournal.com/2077046.html).  Uncle Martin has already made a full translation and posted it on the English version of Colonel Cassad’s blog (please see here for the English translation: http://cassad-eng.livejournal.com/133434.html).  Since this is very long text, I will not re-post it fully here, but I have decided to make it available for download in ODT, RTF and PDF format (please click here to download the zipped file with all three formats: http://www.mediafire.com/download/cj4vd09u7i1zr4b/How_MH17_was_shot_down.zip).

In conclusion I would like to indulge in a rather infantile exercise in self-congratulatory “autobackslapping” and point out that the hypothesis I put forth as early as August 4th is holding up to time pretty well.  See for yourself:

The cognitive dissonance of the European Union’s position

Translated from Russian by Robin
The problems with the European Union’s basic ideology of course involve Germany’s position more specifically. To see it with the utmost clarity, we must recall the standard mantra of the proponents of Western liberalism, whether they are from the European Union, from the United States or homegrown: the West’s main goal in relation to Russia is to explain that adopting basic liberal values inevitably leads to a flourishing economy and happiness all round. If we make any attempt to poke our noses into the real results, they explain that we ourselves are doing everything wrong; specifically, we have created corruption on a massive scale.

US Expands Russian-Aimed Propaganda Budget by More Than 100%

Despite its denial of any involvement in the Ukrainian crisis, and repeated criticism of Russian media, a senior official now admits that the US State Department has nearly doubled its funding for its Russian-language propaganda programs, since the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis.

Speaking before the US House Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday, US Assistant Secretary of European Affairs Victoria Nuland said that the State Department is vastly increasing its budget for battling what she calls “the Kremlin’s pervasive propaganda campaign poisoning minds across Russia, on Russia’s periphery, and across Europe.”

US Commander in Europe Panics, Goes on weird Anti-Putin Rant

Generals always prepare for the last war, but in the case of Lt. Gen. Hodges, the war may have never really happened. However, that's no reason to stop fighting.

It was all over. Endless columns of T-64 tanks were about to steamroll through the Fulda Gap all the way to the English Channel. Elite paratroopers, armed to the teeth, were marching into an unending row of Il-76 transport planes that took off every minute, from every airfield. Early warning radar stations were overwhelmed as a tsunami of ICBM launches consumed every point on their screens. Against all odds, we managed to wake our German allies and prepare them to make one last stand. As they marched forward to show… Wait. Oh no. Are those broomsticks?
