30-year-old man nabbed for raping 2 year old girl in Ebonyi state



A 30-year old man, Mr. Inya-Okoro from Afikpo North LGA of Ebonyi State has been arrested by police for defiling a 2-year-old girl named Favour, Sunnewsonline reports 
The suspect was alleged to have com­mitted the shameful act when the victim returned from school and was sleeping at the corridor of the house when the suspect, who also lives in the same compound allegedly pounced on her and committed the crime.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr. Chris Anyanwu an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who confirmed the incident said the suspect was arrested on July 14, 2014 at the scene of the crime when the members of the family alerted the police. Continue...

Reports showed that brawls broke " out between lawmakers from Ukraine's nationalist and communist parties in the country's parliament on Wednesday. The fight erupted after Svoboda party lawmaker Oleksiy Kayda asked lawmakers to vote to remove the leader of the Communist party from the session". Expert: Sleeping for more than Seven hours can make you become "mumu" (dull) -





While general opinion is that we need to sleep more to remain healthy and function right, an expert warns that getting too much sleep could actually be bad for your health. Shawn Youngstedt, a professor at Arizona State University who studies sleep duration told Wall Street Journal

APC petitions Jonathan, alleges plot to kill Aregbesola



The All Progressives Congress has petitioned President Goodluck Jonathan over an alleged plot to assassinate Governor Rauf Aregbesola. Also, the party alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party was planning to arrest its notable leaders ahead of the August 9 governorship election.

When impeachment wave blows, Enugu Deputy Gov. to be served notice for rearing chickens in Govt house



 22 out of the 24 members of the Enugu State House of Assembly yesterday July 22nd passed a resolution to serve the state deputy Governor, Sunday Onyebuchi, an impeachment notice over allegations of operating a commercial poultry farm within his official quarters in the state capital. 

According to the lawmakers, the state deputy governor's action contravenes their Feb 12 2013 resolution which 'prohibited the maintenance and operation of a commercial livestock and poultry farms within residential neighborhoods in Enugu Metropolis in promotion of public health standards'.

They say an earlier directive by the state Governor, Chime Sullivan, to have the said poultry relocated by relevant ministry officials was disobeyed by the deputy governor who afterwards resorted to inviting pressmen to castigate the Governor. Continue...

Russia Offers Help to Negotiate Gaza Truce



Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday offered help to mediate a truce between the armed Palestinian group Hamas and Israel, which has expanded its military campaign in the Gaza Strip by launching a ground offensive.
Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed in a phone call the ongoing Israeli offensive against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip that so far has killed more than 600 Palestinians, including at least 152 children and 82 women.
“The Russian president stressed that continued military action in the Gaza Strip is leading to a dramatic deterioration of the humanitarian situation, to deaths and suffering of civilians,” the Kremlin said in a statement.

Defence ministry cant find body of technician who died in Mi-15 crash



The Nigerian Defence Headquarters says the human body of the technician who was killed in the Airforce Mi-35 crash on Monday in Bama, Borno state is missing. A statement on the website reads;
"Only one body has so far been recovered from the site of the crashed Air Force Helicopter.  The body of the technician who is the third member of the crew is yet to be located.  He is therefore declared Missing in Action until found. Rescue team continues the search in the vicinity of the scene of the accident".
One pilot was recused alive, while the body of the second pilot has been recovered.

Security man allegedly commits suicide at popular fast food joint in Akute



Among the security men at a well known junk food joint in Alagbole, Akute, a Lagos/Ogun suburb committed suicide in the early hours of today, Wednesday July 23rd. The security man whose name the organization management chose never to disclose, allegely hanged himself inside the kitchen of the junk food joint before it opened for business today.

The middle aged security man was said to have deleted all his phone contacts which made it  difficult to get hold of his relatives. His body was removed this afternoon around 3:10pm from the eatery and taken up to the mortuary. See an image of his corpse being removed after the break.

Kaduna‬ Blasts: Terrorists out for sectional divisions - GEJ





President Goodluck Jonathan has condemned today's bombings in Kaduna said to have targeted former Head of State General Muhammadu Buhari (rtr) and prominent Islamic Cleric Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi.
Presidential spokesman, in a statement, said Jonathan denounced the dastardly targeting of the prominent political and religious leaders by terrorists and enemies of the nation "in an odious attempt to inflame passions and exacerbate disquiet, fear, insecurity and sectional divisions in the country". 


Fashola warns LASTMA, KAI against extortion of Lagosians



The Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola, has warned officials of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority, LASTMA, and Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, to desist from extorting money from Lagos residents under the guise of carrying out their duties.


Mr. Fashola, who spoke to the officers over the weekend, urged them to always discharge their responsibilities in a way that would not portray the state in a bad light.
“Your primary responsibility is to move traffic. If you have to make a choice between moving traffic and letting an offender go, let the offender go. I don’t need him; we need to keep traffic moving because moving traffic is the economy,” Mr. Fashola told the LASTMA officers.
