Unidentified Gunmen Shoot UNILAG Student in the Head



student of UNILAG  was reportedly shot in the heard yesterday by unidentified gunmen at the King Jaja Hall section of the university on Monday. Fortunately, the student who had been identified as Sapara, the final year student of Philosophy, had his face covered in blood instead of being dead after the bullet scraped the medial side of his head. 

He was subsequently taken up to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, and official report revealed  he is in a well balanced condition. The incident had however generated chaos as students were seen running in various directions after the gunshot was fired.

If price of oil crashes today, govs flying jets will look for okada to ride – Delegate -

ABUJA- A delegate representing the South West Geo- Political Zone of the country, Yinka Odunmakin told other delegates yesterday that if the price of oil crashes today, governors who he alleged to be going round the world with private jets, will look for motorcycles, known as Okada to ride.
Contributing to debate on report of the devolution of power Committee yesterday, Odunmakin also said that if no oil, only Lagos state out of the 36 states of the country would be able to use its Internally Generated Revenue, IGR to pay workers’ salaries.

18 new States: 50 Osun Monarchs write Kutigi

50 first class traditional rulers, leaders, stakeholders, elders from Osun State have written the Chairman, National Conference, Justice Idris Kutigi and the leadership to demand the inclusion of Oduduwa State as an additional state to those to be created from the South West geo- political zone of the country.
Expressing dismay that Oduduwa State was not part of the 18 states proposed by the national conference committee on Political Restructuring and Forms of Government, the Osun traditional rulers and leaders said the demand for the new state had been a passion for the people of the affected area since 1983.

Two ex-heads of state, emirs plead for Nyako



Two former military heads of state led the embattled Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako to a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday night in Abuja as part of the efforts to save Nyako, who is battling to escape impeachment by legislators in his state.
The PUNCH learnt that the meeting was at the instance of the two ex-heads of state.
A source close to the meeting confided in one of our correspondents that the two former dictators’ intervention rested on the fact that Nyako was a mutual friend.
Nyako is a retired Vice-Admiral and one-time Chief of Naval Staff under ex-dictator Ibrahim Babangida.

Al-Qaeda threat: Security beefed up at Lagos airport



Security activities was on the high side on Tuesday as the entire Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, was put under intense screening and searchlight for several hours, as security agencies screened all vehicles and humans entering the cargo hajj camp of the complex.
The situation forced scores of passengers, especially those going on the international flights, to trek to the airport in order not to miss their scheduled flights.

Israel dazes Palestinians with devastating strikes from the air and sea





As the world is dazed over the Brazil-Germany match, Israel is also dazing Palestinians with devastating strikes from the air and sea. The attacks are said to be directed against Hamas but nothing less than 30 Palestinian civilians, including an eight-year-old and two teenagers have been killed in the airstrikes. Israel said it is ready for an escalation of the conflict in Gaza and said its response was due to over 130 rocket attacks from Hamas.

Chibok girls’ll be rescued soon –GEJ, OBJ, others



The Council of State, made up of former heads of government, on Tuesday held its second meeting in the year and came out with a promise that the abducted pupils of Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, would soon be rescued.
More than 200 girls were seized from the school on the night of April 14 by members of the terrorist Islamic sect, Boko Haram. The incident has attracted global condemnation and protests. Almost 90 days in the custody of the terrorists, there have been many not-too-pleasant stories about the welfare of the girls.

Keshi demands ₦10m-a-month contract –Report



Stephen Keshi has reportedly demanded a significant salary hike to sign a new contract to remain as Nigeria coach.
According to africanfootball.com on Tuesday, Keshi, who announced last week that his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation had expired after the Super Eagles crashed out of the World Cup following their 2-0 defeat by France, told President Goodluck Jonathan that he will sign a new deal if the NFF agrees to pay him N10m a month. The former Nigeria captain received N5m a month in his initial contract.

3) Hakeem Kae-Kazim
Having started acting as far back as the 1980s, Hakeem Kae-Kazim is a British Nigerian  actor that many Nigerians are so proud of. Born in October 1962, Hakeem is best known for his role as Georges Rutaganda in the 2004 motion picture Hotel Rwanda.
His achievements cannot be overrated and to name a few, the movies he had featured in include Coming To America, King Solomon’s Mines, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, The Fourth Kind, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Last Flight to Abuja, among others.

Photos: LASTMA official allegedly beats motorist to convulsion



 A LASTMA official by the name Asorona stopped a car he claimed had violated traffic rules, removed the man from the car and allegedly assaulted him around 7.30 am this morning in front of BRT yard at Ketu bus stop. He and his colleagues also seized the man’s car. And before anyone knew what was happening, the young man fell down on the road into convulsion, shaking, according to eye witnesses, like an epileptic patient. As the LASTMA official tried to leave the scene, he was surrounded by passersby who insisted he must stay there to see what happens to the man. See more photos after the break…

Teenager Stabs Friend With a Pair of Scissors in Lagos




An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded a teenager at the Special Correctional Centre for Boys in Oregun, over alleged murder of his friend, Bidemi Bankole.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.A. Demi-Ajayi, said that the 16-year-old should remain in custody pending advice of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.
She adjourned the case till Aug.6 for mention

Hafsat made the decision at the residence of the late politician while laying a wreath to commemorate the 16th anniversary of her father.

“Daddy, the state of the nation today will sadden you. The crisis is just too much. Majority of the youths are unemployed. When you were around, you said you would take them out of poverty, but today majority of Nigerians wallow in poverty. There is a general feeling of insecurity in the country. Blessing Okagbare Wins 200m at Diamond League Paris



You may probably want to get familiar with her name, because she is currently on fire on the tracks. You may remember Blessing Okagbare from her Long Jump bronze model during the 2008 Olympics and also her strong performance during the 2012 Olympics.

The Nigerian athlete has been making recent headlines in this year’s IAAF Diamond League.

Pregnant woman, 5 others lost their lives in Ibadan auto crash (graphical photo)




At least six persons, including a pregnant woman, were crushed to death in an auto crash that occurred at Agbala junction area of Ibadan in Egbeda Local Government area of Oyo State, yesterday.

Three vehicles were said to be involved in the accident that occurred some minutes past 7am.

Although, the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, confirmed that three people, including a woman died, eyewitnesses said there were six casualties. There were also four people, including a child, who were seriously injured.
