Impeachment: Panel indicts Nyako, absolves deputy





There are strong indications that the seven-man panel set up to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako and his deputy, Mr. Bala Ngilari, has indicted the governor but absolved the deputy.

It was learnt in Abuja on Sunday, that the panel set up by the immediate past acting Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Ambrose Mammadi, to investigate allegations levelled against the duo arrived at the decision after reviewing exhibits tendered by members of the State House of Assembly who are the complainants.

Two ex-heads of state, emirs plead for Nyako



Two former military heads of state led the embattled Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako to a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday night in Abuja as part of the efforts to save Nyako, who is battling to escape impeachment by legislators in his state.
The PUNCH learnt that the meeting was at the instance of the two ex-heads of state.
A source close to the meeting confided in one of our correspondents that the two former dictators’ intervention rested on the fact that Nyako was a mutual friend.
Nyako is a retired Vice-Admiral and one-time Chief of Naval Staff under ex-dictator Ibrahim Babangida.

Impeachment battle against Nyako shifts to court



The battle of wits between the Adamawa State House of Assembly and Governor Murtala Nyako over a plot to impeach the latter is set to move to the court.
It was learnt in Abuja on Friday that the House of Assembly, which has been unable to serve the governor with the impeachment notice, is set to approach court to seek an order for substituted service.
A source, who confided in one of our correspondents, said, “We are going to court. I want to believe that our lawyer would have gone there by now to ask for an order to serve the governor through substitution.”

GEJ to Nyako: You’re the real sponsor of insurgents



The altercation between the Presidency and the Adamawa State governor, Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd) worsened yesterday as the former described the governor as a sponsor of insurgents, alleging that Nyako recently ‘imported’ some Fulani fighters into the country.

At the weekend, Nyako wrote his fellow northern governors, asking them to join him in instituting a legal action against President Goodluck Jonathan whom he accused of embarking on ethnic cleansing by ensuring that the ongoing insurgent acts persist in the North.

Speaking when he received an emissary of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Alhaji Umaru Duhu, who is the national vice chairman of the party for the Northeast, Nyako carpeted leaders of his party saying “the era when some few Ogogoro consumers from Abuja would chart the destiny of their state has ended, because people have vowed to take their destinies within their hands.

Jonathan is ungrateful –Gov Nyako •It’s Nyako who is ungrateful to President –Presidency



Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of ingratitude and unfairness.
He also accused the President of concentrating more on developing the South-South, while ignoring developmental problems in the rest of the country.
Specifically, the governor, expressed displeasure over the way he was being treated by the party in spite of the sacrifices he made to ensure the President’s victory during the PDP primaries and the 2011 presidential election.
However, Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, said it was Nyako, who was being ungrateful and unfair to the President.
