US State Department recognizes right of Kiev to apply airstrikes on civilians





US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said to reporters at a press briefing that the Ukrainian government has every right to conduct attacks on civilians, as this upholds the unity of the country.

According to US State Department spokesman Jen Psaki, the Ukrainian government defends the country, inflicting air strikes on civilians in the east of the country. She stated this today at a regular meeting with reporters. Psaki justified Kiev's actions in relation to the militia.

No offer for Keshi – South African Football Association (SAFA Denies Job offer)

Powerful earthquake of 7.1 magnitude strikes southern Mexico




An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 rattled southern Mexico on Monday, the US Geological Survey said.
The quake was centred 22 miles (35 km) west-southwest of the city of Tapachula in the state of Chiapas at a depth of about 47 miles (75 km), Reuters reports.

Japan issues alert over super typhoon Neoguri



Japan's weather agency on Monday issued its highest alert as super typhoon Neoguri barreled toward the southern Okinawa island chain, warning of violent winds and high waves.

The typhoon warning - the first since a new system began last August - means that the storm poses a threat to life and could inflict massive damage from gusts up to 160 miles per hour and torrential rain.

East Ukraine preparing for siege



Unknown attackers blew up a railway bridge near Donetsk on Monday. It was the main route connecting central Ukraine and eastern regions of the country, Reuters reports. At the same time self-defense forces of eastern Ukraine announced that as of now they will have their own assault aviation and anti-aircrat guns which they seized from the Ukrainian army. 

For three months now there are ongoing armed clashes in eastern Ukraine between self-defense forces and the national guard. Kiev announced that it intends to take the territory of Lugansk and Donetsk regions under state control. Only the previous Monday Ukrainian army forced the militia fighters to retreat from Slavyansk surrendering the town to the Ukrainian army, which Ukrainian President Petr Poroshenko called a turning point.

Barrage of rockets from Gaza fired at Israel: Hamas claims responsibility



Militants in the Gaza Strip fired dozens of rockets into southern Israel late Monday, the military and media said, after overnight air strikes killed eight militants in the Palestinian enclave. A military spokesman said some 20 rockets were fired in just a few minutes, and that four incoming were destroyed by the Iron Dome anti-missile system. Media reports spoke of around 40 fired. There was no immediate word on casualties or damage in Israel.

The armed wing of the Islamist Hamas movement on Monday claimed responsibility for firing a barrage of rockets at southern Israel, a statement said.

BRICS currency reserves and new Development Bank drafts approved by Russia



Draft agreements on a new Development Bank and a pool of BRICS currency reserves have been approved by the Russian government on Tuesday, reports TASS. The documents are to be signed on July 15,16 during the 6th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to take part in.

The BRICS currency reserve pool agreement envisages “the establishment of the mechanism of eliminating current and short-term problems in the balances of payments of the BRICS member states - Brazil, India, China, Russia and South Africa.”
The Agreement on establishing a new BRICS Development Bank was also approved of by the Russian government, with the document stipulating “the creation of a multilateral financial institution".
The Development Bank aims to “finance infrastructure projects and sustainable development undertakings in the BRICS member states and developing countries.”

EFCC arraigns 3 suspected impostors for ₦141.7m securities scam




The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday July 7, 2014 arraigned three suspects: Mohammed Rabiu (65 centre), Raphael Olorunfemi Okomoda (50 - left) and Adegbesan Theophilus (38 -right); before Justice Lawal Akapo of a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja on different criminal counts, all bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false presence, stealing, impersonation, forgery, using false document and money laundering. While Lawan was charged with 19-counts, Okomoda and Theophilus were charged with 7-counts each. Continue.

Bank supervisor discovered hanging in uncompleted building 3 days following he gone missing



 The body of Habib Olatunde (pictured above), a bank manager of an undisclosed Nigerian bank, has been found a couple of weeks and six days after he was declared missing by the police. Late Mr Olatunde's body was found hanging in an uncompleted building at Arepo in Ogun state on Saturday July 5th around 5pm. Abayomi Shogunle, the Deputy Force PRO, Nigeria Police Force, revealed this.

Polytechnic students occupy Abuja Expressway in Owo to protest tuition fee



 Some students of Ondo State owned Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo, Ondo state this morning July 7th took over the Owo/Abuja expressway to protest the recent hike in their school fees.

Management of the school recently increased the annual school fees of students of National Diploma in sciences from ₦21,300 to N58,300 and ND students from ₦53,800 to 73,000. A levy of N20,000 was also imposed on non-indegenes of the state by school management.
