I don’t mind sacrificing my ambition for APC’s growth – Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar (2015 Election)



Atiku says Nigeria is in dire need of change.
A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, said on Monday in Sokoto that he would sacrifice his ambition for the growth of his new party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.  Mr. Abubakar made the declaration when he paid a courtesy call on the governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamakko.

“All of us are now willing to set aside our individual ambitions so as to build a formidable APC,” he said. “So, for now, we are not talking about how to pursuing our selfish political aspirations. We are collectively working to ensure the growth of the APC.”  Mr. Abubakar announced on Sunday that he dumped Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the opposition party.

Pregnant Woman in labour stabbed to death in Delta



A pregnant woman who was in labour and a good Samaritan who tried to save her life have been killed in the Warri area of Delta.  The woman was said to have been waiting for a taxi to take her to a hospital for delivery when she was attacked by a man believed to be a lunatic. The incident occurred along the Mac-Dermott Road axis of the town and the unidentified man, who tried to shield the woman from her attacker, also lost his life.

Policeman nabbed on video demanding bribe now in police custody




The police officer caught on video demanding 'dollar bribe' from a Nigerian-American he stopped for wearing a navy-like cargo pant, has been arrested and currently in police custody.  The policeman now identified as Corporal Aniyem Chiyem was heard in the video saying "Arrange dollars. Give us dollars".
According to a press statement released this evening by the Nigerian police, Cpl Chiyem is currently undergoing Orderly Room trials and if found guilty will face appropriate disciplinary actions. See the video and press statement after the break.

Putin arrives at Sochi National Park's leopard nursery ahead of IOC session.



Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is currently paying a working visit to Sochi, has arrived Tuesday at the Persian Leopard Breeding and Rehabilitation Center at Sochi National Park. The head of state intends to personally get to grips with the situation at the nursery and find out details of living conditions of its inhabitants.

To date, four baby leopards were born at Sochi National Park. Two of them are two years old while two others are only over seven months old. Only a sixth-month cub called Grom ("thunder" in English) has its own name. The others have only been given nicknames.

An undergraduate of the University of Ibadan, 28-year- old Orowo Jesse Omokoh, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly obtaining Ninety Thousand Dollars ($90,000.) from one Mrs. Jette Jacob, an Australian based in Johannesburg, South Africa, in what is known as a romance scam.

The suspect allegedly met the Aussie on a dating site and struck a sizzling romantic affair that necessitated him moving to Johannesburg in 2013 to link up with his lover.

Indian Wife And baby daughter set ablaze by hubby because He Needed a Son



A young Indian mother has been burned to death along with her infant daughter by her husband and in-laws for failing to pay dowry. Police in eastern Indian state of Jharkhand said 22-year-old Annu Devi was set ablaze while she was breastfeeding her daughter. They have now arrested her husband, Gunjan Masat, who allegedly poured fuel over Devi and her baby daughter before setting them on fire. According to Raghuni Rana, Devi's father, the couple were happily married for more than a year, but problems started after Ms Devi gave birth to a baby girl.

Federal high court orders Vector to stop all musical activities

David Beckham Set To Become Club Owner in the Major League.



Britain's best known soccer star, David Beckham may soon become a club owner in the Major League Soccer, MLS.

The former England star midfielder had exercised his option to buy an MLS club and wants to bring it to Miami, with the plan contingent on a deal for a privately funded stadium.

Beckham, his investment group and MLS commissioner Don Garber will be in Miami on Tuesday and Wednesday seeking support for the venture, the Herald and the local CBS television affiliate reported.

Toyin Obadina, an Assistant Editor with Saturday Newswatch Newspaper was on shot in the stomach by unknown gunmen while on his way from work on Friday January 31. He died two days later on Sunday February 2nd after a surgery was done to extract the bullet that was lodged in his stomach.

Anti-gay law: Nigeria accuses US, UK, Others Of Double Standards




THE Federal Government has accused western nations of double standards over a new law banning same-sex marriages in the country. Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Viola Onwuliri, said such criticisms stem from the “double standards” of the West.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the sidelines of the just concluded AU summit, Ms. Onwuliri said President Jonathan signed the law in the interest of Nigerians and democracy.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has revealed that it is yet to receive allocations which were agreed upon last year with the Federal Government.

This was disclosed by the National President of the union, Dr. Nasir Fagge on Monday.

Fagge explained that the Minister for Education, Nyesom Wike, who is the head of the implementation committee, is always busy and this has prevented him(Wike) from having regular meetings with the union.

Nigeria's oldest man in the UK Pa Lemoshe passes away 2 months before his 100th Birthday.



Nigeria's oldest citizen in the UK Pa Gabriel Lemoshe passed away on Friday January 31st less than 2 months short of his 100th birthday. He would have turned 100 on March 15th and there was already an organizing committee working hard to put together a grand party to celebrate the milestone.
Organizers of his birthday now plan to hold a celebration of his life on March 15 instead of a birthday party. The Abeokuta-born Pa Lemoshe was one of the founding members of his native Egba United Society (EUS) in the UK.

20yr old Nigerian Isaac Ojiabo stabs his mother to death in Maryland




20 year old Isaac Anya Ojiabo Jr. (pictured above) has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Joy Ojiabo, who was found beaten and stabbed to death at their million dollar home in Forest Hill, Maryland.
When police arrived at the home of 51 year old Joy Ojiabo around 5pm on Wednesday Jan. 29th, they found her suffering from multiple injuries, "to include a large, wooden handled knife protruding from her chest.". She was pronounced dead 20 minutes later.

Isaac Ojiabo Snr, the deceased's husband who called the police said Isaac Jr., had escaped with his mother's Lexus SUV after the stabbing.

Police later located Isaac and the vehicle around 4:35 a.m. Thursday January 30th about a mile and a quarter from the crime scene. He told police they had fought and he lost it. He is being held without bail. Continue...

At his bail review on Friday afternoon in Harford County District Court, the judge heard that police had been called to the Ojiabo residence (pictured above - police at the home after the murder) three times since March 2013 for domestic complaints, two that involved Joy Ojiabo and her son.

On the first call, on March 7, at 8:58 p.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to a call for a verbal family argument, Hopkins said. It involved the father and an unidentified family member.

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai said Asari Dokubo a Niger Delta freedom fighter is a thug.The former minister of Nigeria federal capital territory said so while responding to questions from saharareporters after his interogation at SSS office.
“Asari Dokubo is a thug. I don’t compare myself to him. I’ve never taken up arms against the state. I’m a normal human, law-abiding Nigerian. I don’t compare myself with thugs,” El-Rufai said.Prior to this time, Asari-Dokubo, a supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan had referred to El-Rufai as a coward on his initial refusal to honour the invitation of the DSS.El-Rufai also lamented that the upcoming national conference is a ploy to divert attention from the failures of Jonathan’s administration.

Another Nigerian student died in Cyprus



6 months after the human body of Stanley Eteimo was found floating at an exclusive beach in Cyprus (If you missed it, read it here) another Nigerian student in Cyrus has been found dead. No much factual statements about this case but in accordance with friends of Precious Nightair Daniel, (pictured above), his body was found February 1st under the basement of his apartment.

Precious went missing on Monday January 27th in North Cyprus and his friends believe he was murdered and dumped in the basement. The Cyprus police haven't said much concerning the case however many Nigerians you can find keeping watch.

Late Nelson Mandela's Will to be read today



The will of former South African President Nelson Mandela is due to be read on Monday, potentially kicking off another round of squabbling among members of his large and factious family over the anti-apartheid hero's financial legacy. Mandela, who died in December at the age of 95, has left behind an estate that includes an upscale house in Johannesburg, a modest dwelling in his rural Eastern Cape home province and royalties from book sales, including his autobiography, "Long Walk to Freedom".
