A pastor and a married woman said to be his lover have been arrested by police in Edo in connection with the murder of the woman’s husband.  Victor Nsongbunyo, a Deputy Manager with the Nigeria Petroleum Development (NPDC) Company, in Benin, the state capital was allegedly killed by his wife and her lover due to the fact that he had begun to suspect her of infidelity.

Nsongbuyo was said to have begun questioning the paternity of the children his wife has for him and the one she was expecting.

'Mass telephone record gathering necessary' - NSA chief



The mass collection of telephone data is necessary to monitor communications between terrorist suspects, the head of a US spy agency said Wednesday.

General Keith Alexander, director of the National Security Agency, defended the bulk gathering of metadata on phone calls, saying, "there is no other way that we know of to connect the dots."
The NSA collects information about which phone numbers are involved and the duration of calls, but not any information from actual conversations.

Mexican immigrants abused by US officials, report says



According to a report published on Tuesday by the US Immigration Policy Center, a selective interrogation of more than 1,000 Mexican immigrants who have been deported from the US has shown that 11% of them had been abused in this or that way by US officials while being detained or kept in processing centers.

Air Canada buys 61 Boeing 737s for $6.5 bn




Air Canada announced Wednesday it had placed a firm $6.5 billion order for 61 Boeing 737 MAX narrow-body aircraft, with options on 18 more planes and purchase rights for 30 others. The order - which comes as the airline seeks to replace its aging Airbus A320 and A321 fleet - concerns 33 of the MAX 8 version of the 737, and 28 of the MAX 9 aircraft.

US threatens Ukraine, says considers sanctions against the country.



The US State Department said on Wednesday it is considering all options, including sanctions, toward Ukraine, where riot police moved against demonstrators overnight after weeks of protests against Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich.

"All policy options, including sanctions, are on the table, in our view, but obviously that still is being evaluated," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters, declining to specify what kinds of sanctions may be under consideration.

ASUU- Presidency received 50 Warning Letters Before ASUU Strike Began - Fagge



The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said that no fewer than 50 letters were written between 2011 and 2012 to the presidency to avert the ongoing strike.  ASUU president, Nasir Fagge, who was represented by, Olorunyomi Oju, a don, disclosed this at the 2013 World Human Rights Day celebration on Tuesday in Osogbo.

ASUU STRIKE: "All Issues Resolved"



The Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike has disclosed that all contending issues between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government have been resolved.
He made the disclosure in a statement following his meeting with the leadership of the union on Wednesday.
He also lauded the patriotism and strong will demonstrated by members of the union to uplift the standard of education in the country.

 According to a report by Daily Mail, a Nigerian doctor & former diplomat, Dr Chukwuma Igbokwe, (pictured above) is in court, accused of bullying and sexually harassing his junior colleague.

Uruguay set to become first country to legalize growing, buying and selling marijuana.



 South American country Uruguay is set to become the first country in the world to allow its citizens to grow, sell, buy and smoke marijuana. The country's Senate began its final debate on the issue today Tuesday Dec. 10th and claim they want to legalize it in a bid to take the business from criminals.

If this bill, which has the support of majority of the House and the president of the country, is passed, Uruguay will be the first country to legalize a trade that is illegal everywhere else in the world.

 Recently the speaker of Home of Representatives Tambuwal said that Leader Jonathan's gestures is encouraging corruption in Nigeria. The speaker said the leader is encouraging corrupt practices by'declining to do something on corruption instances exposed by the National Assembly.'
“Take the subsidy probe, the pension, the SEC probe and recently the bullet proof car cases. After the House of Representatives did a diligent job by probing and exposing the cases, you now see something else when it comes to prosecution." Tabumwal said while responding to questions at an anti-corruption seminar organized by NBA, in Abuja.
