Prime Minister: Donetsk Republic Authorities to Consider Donbas Status Bill




The leadership of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) will study a bill on the special status of the eastern Ukrainian regions proposed by the country’s government and hopes that the measure will lead to peaceful settlement of the conflict, the DPR Deputy Prime Minister, Andrei Purgin said Monday. “We are waiting for the bill, will study it. Hope for peaceful settlement,” Purgin said. Earlier on Monday, the bill proposed by President Petro Poroshenko was submitted to the country’s parliament. The document in particular envisages holding local elections on November 9 and granting amnesty to independence fighters.

Prime Minister: Finland to Continue Nuclear Cooperation With Russia Despite Sanctions




Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb has stated that EU sanctions against Russia will not affect Finland's cooperation with Russia's state-run nuclear corporation Rosatom on the building of the Hanhikivi 1 nuclear plant, Finnish broadcaster Yle reports.

"I think nuclear power is still such a serious thing that it is not advisable to mix it with power politics," Stubb was quoted as saying by Yle on Sunday.

US-Led Army Exercise ‘Rapid Trident 2014’ Underway in Ukraine




Military personnel from 15 countries are participating in the annual US-led army exercises in Ukraine, which commenced Monday in the Lviv region, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry stated in a press release. 

“In the next two weeks, soldiers will have to deal with explosive packages, fuses, mines and other simulation explosives. Servicemen should be able to practice how to act during blasting, safe distances during mine clearance, which signals should be given,”

Avoid campaigns until 90days to election, INEC tells parties





Head, Voter Education and Publicity of INEC, FCT, Abuja, Mr Okezie Nwankwo, on Monday warned political parties to avoid campaigns until 90 days to the general elections. Nwankwo gave the warning during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja. “Basically no political party is allowed to campaign publicly until it is 90 days to election,” he said.

300 drug addicts escape from rehab in Vietnam




Over 300 drug addicts escaped from a rehab centre in Vietnam, Hai Phong Provincial People’s Committee, said on Monday. The spokesman for Hai Phong Provincial People’s Committee, Pham Thu, said inmates broke out of the Social and Labour Rehabilitation Camp in Hai Phong City. However, hundreds of police were mobilised to maintain order.

Man Alleges Wrongful Deportation to Nigeria





A 35-year-old deportee from the United States of America, David Copperfield, has approached a Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking a declaration that he is not a Nigerian.

Copperfield who claimed to have no Nigerian affiliation whatsover said he was wrongly deported to Nigeria after being charged for burglary in America. He has approached the court seeking a declaration that the Nigerian Immigration Service erred when it received him into the country as a repatriated citizen on September 18, 2013. He is also demanding a sum of N10m as special and general damages against the defendants in his suit.

2 Nigerians & an Isreali arrested for smuggling $9.3m into South Africa





South African police are currently investigating two Nigerians and an Israeli citizen who tried to smuggle $9.3 million in cash into the country on September 5th.

According to South Africa's City Press newspaper, the money which was in bundles of unused $100 bills packed in three suitcase were transported in a small business jet, a bombadier Challenger 600 with a Nigerian crew and piloted by Captain Tunde Ojongbede.

Man arraigned in court for allegedly raping foreigner





A 34-year-old man, Fabian Anyanwu, who allegedly assaulted and raped a 22-year-old Cameroonian lady, on Monday appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos today.

Anyanwu, a resident of 721 Road, D Close, Block 2, Festac Town, Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and rape. The prosecutor, Cpl. John Iberedem, told the court that the accused committed the offences on August 15 at his residence. Continue...

Photo: Robber Meets his death while trying to steal from a transformer at Iju



This is a dead pic of a robber who got electrocuted while attempting to steal cable from the transformer just beside a home on Iju road by Lonlo bus stop. He apparently tried to steal the cable in the early hours of today when he got electrocuted and remained for this reason in that position until residents woke up this morning. Residents say they're looking forward to Government officials to come over and carry his dead body.

Nigerian man passes on after jumping off 3rd floor during drug raid in India






 A 35 year old Nigerian person known as Obyeka Anwanbukwa suspected to be involved in drugs peddling died on Saturday September 13th after jumping from the window of a 3rd floor flat from a higher rise (pictured above) during a drug raid in Akash Bhavan in the Bhaunagar section of Pimple Gurav in India

In accordance with reports, a shared team of India's Narcotic Control Bureau, NCB, and some police officers, stormed the apartment where in fact the deceased and his other Nigerian friends were staying around 8 on Saturday night and while being interrogated, Obyeka allegedly ran off and jumped from third floor of the building. He died of his injuries a couple of hours later.

Stay away from Rivers schools, Amaechi tells FG




THE Rivers State Government has warned the Federal Government to shelve its plans to renovate some of the state-owned schools.

The Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, had last week promised that the Federal Government would soon begin to give some schools in the state a facelift.

Wike, who made the promise during the foundation laying for the Federal Junior Model Secondary School in Ogu/Bolo, specifically said the Federal Government would build additional classroom blocks at the Birabi Memorial Secondary in Bori, Khana Local Government Area.

No automatic ticket for Buhari, others –APC





The All Progressives Congress has said there will be no automatic ticket for a former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and other presidential aspirants in the party.

This was coming ahead the allegation that some leaders of the party had been planning to give automatic ticket to Buhari, a development that was said not to be favoured by Abubakar Atiku, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Senator Bukola Saraki’s groups within the party.

But the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the APC would not give automatic ticket to Buhari.

Jonathan has failed the North, says ACF




The pan-northern socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum, rose from an emergency meeting with non-governmental organisations   on Sunday and declared that President Goodluck Jonathan had failed the region in terms of security.


It said there was a deliberate attempt to emasculate the north economically, reduce its numerical strength and divide its people along religious and   political lines.

The ACF, through its     Chairman, Ibrahim Coomassie, stated that the general belief was that the Jonathan administration never liked the North.

The Minister of State for Works, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, has described the death of civil war hero Brigadier-General Benjamin Adekunle (retd.), as a painful loss to the Yoruba nation in particular and Nigeria.


He said, “We can only pray to God for the repose of the soul of this patriotic Nigerian, who was among those who put their lives on the line to sustain our country.”

Boko Haram attacked our building ─ T.B. Joshua





The founder and General overseer of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet T. B. Joshua has said Boko Haram may be responsible for the collapse of a six-storey building in the church premises.


Joshua, who told members of his church on Sunday not to be afraid, said the attack was targeted at him and not at them.

The prophet made it clear that the collapse of the six-storey building at around 11.45am on Friday which led to the death of no fewer than 16 persons was a Boko Haram attack.

Four die in Lagos boat accident




No fewer than four persons died in a boat accident in Okera Nla, Ikorodu, Lagos when a boat conveying 22 passengers capsized. Our correspondent learnt that the boat, which took off from Okera Nla, Ikorodu and was heading for Bayeku, capsized at about 7.30pm on Saturday evening. While officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority were able to rescue 17 passengers alive, four had already died, and only their bodies were recovered.
