Buhari’s Survival Saved Nigeria From Genocide




Human Rights activist and Co-ordinator of Ijaw Monitoring Group has said former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari’s survival in a bomb blast in Kaduna saved Nigeria the genocide that would have been worse than what happened in Rwanda.

Speaking to Vanguard in an interview, the former Publicity Secretary of Ijaw National Congress (INC) said the survival of Buhari was the greatest miracle from God this year.
“It was not General Buhari that was lucky, it was Nigeria that was actually lucky that Buhari survived the attack.
“Some people don’t know the implications because they are ignorant of history. The killing of two political leaders in a plane crash that was bombed in Rwanda was what led to the worst genocide in Africa history.

Cheque Forgery Syndicate nabbed In Lagos





Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos have arrested three persons who specialised in stealing bank customers cheques with which they withdraw money through alleged connivance of some banks staff.

Recovered from the suspects were two dud cheques, fake letter heads of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and that of the state’s Ministry of Finance and Economic Development which they allegedly intended to use to procure United Kingdom visa.  The suspects’ modus operandi, as gathered, included visiting banks around Lagos pretending to be transacting one business or another.  Meanwhile, they would be on the look out for any customer who is careless with his cheque book with the aim of stealing such.

Eormer FCT Minister, Nasir El Rufai's Son dies in car Crash



 Hamza El Rufai, among the sons of the former Minister of the FCT & Chieftain of the APC, Nasir El Rufai died today July 29th in an automobile accident. His father took to his Facebook page to announce his passing on. This type of young man. Too sad!

Photo: 2 Nigerians Arrested For Protesting Corruption In Ghana



2 Nigerian guys based in Ghana were arrested last week for joining Ghanaians in a street protest over corruption in Ghana.

According to Sahara Reporters, the demonstrators were protesting corruption, a failing economy, and a high cost of living but police said foreigners have no right to join in a protest of that nature.

Ebola: Liberia Closes Most Border Points



Most border crossings in Liberia have now been closed and communities hit by an Ebola outbreak face quarantine to attempt to halt the spread of the virus.  Screening centres is also being setup at the few major entry points that may remain open, including the main airport. 
Meanwhile, Nigeria largest's airline, Arik Air, has suspended all flights to Liberia and Sierra Leone after having a man with Ebola flew to Nigeria last week.

Two female terrorists bomb Kano



Two female suicide bombers struck in numerous areas of Kano on Monday, killing   and injuring many on each day Muslim faithful thronged the prayer grounds in the town to observe the Eid-el-Fitri.  The initial attack took place at about 10am on a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Mega station   at Hotoro Quarters along Maiduguri Road. The 2nd was at about 1.40pm at the Trade Fair Complex entrance on Zoo Road.

But there have been conflicting figures on the amounts of the killed and injured.  Only on Sunday, a bomber hurled explosives at worshippers in a Catholic church in the town, killing five and wounding eight. Exactly the same day,   a 15-year-old female suicide bomber killed herself while trying to a target some police officers.

Lawmaker offers scholarships to undergraduates, postgraduates




Chairman, Senate Committee on Special Duties, Senator Clever Ikisipo has given scholarships to about 145 students in various institutions of higher learning.
The beneficiaries, drawn from his senatorial districts of Ogbia, Brass and Nembe areas of Bayelsa State, comprised 135 undergraduates and 10 postgraduate students.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected fraudsters who allegedly specialised in withdrawing money from people’s bank accounts.  Our correspondent learnt that the suspects ─ Kola Osho, Oyedepo Adesola and Kola Ademola ─ were apprehended by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the Pipeline area, Abule-Egba, Lagos.

It was gathered that the suspects were apprehended after a tip-off had reached the police that some fraudsters were lurking at the location.  Our correspondent further learnt that while Adesola and Ademola were arrested on Wednesday, July 23, Osho was arrested the following day.

Task force men beat tricycle rider to coma




Some tricycle task force officials in Akwa Ibom State on Monday beat up a 32-year old tricycle rider, Mr. Sunday Okon, to coma over arguments on the sales of tickets on public holidays.
The incident occurred around the Pepperoni area of Abak Road, Uyo at 12.50pm.
It was learnt that Okon refused to pay for the tickets on the strength that Monday had been declared a public holiday by the Federal Government.

Weed Control Method Helps Bauchi Maize Farmers Record 100% Yield




Maize Farmers in Bauchi State had been recording 100 percent yield per hectare in the past three years as a result of adopting striga weed control techniques introduced in 2011, Programme Manager of Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BSADP), Dr Iliyasu Gital has disclosed.


Aaccording to him, the techniques had helped control damage done to crops by triga weed, a specie of parasitic plant that suffocates and destroys crops.  He said the techniques, namely crop rotation, mixed cropping and the application of viral powder, were copied from Kenya, and had proved to be very effective.

Ebola: Envoy, 58 persons had contacts with dead Liberian



Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris
The Lagos State Government said on Monday that it had identified no fewer than 59 people who had contacts with the Liberian who died of Ebola Virus in the state, Mr Patrick Sawyer.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, said at a news conference in Ikeja that the contact tracing became imperative to ascertain any possible transmission of the virus by the victim.

Seven Killed, three Injured In Kogi Crash





The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Sunday, confirmed the death of seven persons in a multiple road accident which occurred on the Ankpa-Anyingba road in Kogi.

Confirming this in Lokoja, Kogi Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Godwin Omiko said three other persons were critically injured in the crash.
“Five of the accident victims were lucky as they escaped unhurt,” said Omiko over the telephone.
According to him, the accident which happened late Saturday evening involved three private cars and a motorcycle.
“The cars included two Honda Accord cars, with registration numbers FCT  ABJ 775 GB and Lagos GGE 715 CQ, and a Sienna LE car with registration number KNA 52 LG,’’ the FRSC official said.
Omiko said a total of 15 people were involved in the accident while those who died included five male adults and two female adults.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan wholeheartedly condemns the recent terrorist attacks in Kano and Adamawa States as well as the kidnap of the Lamido of Kolofata in Northern Cameroon, Lamido Seini Lamine and the wife of the Vice Prime Minister of Cameroon.
The President describes as shocking, callous and reprehensible the multiple bomb blasts that occurred in Kano within 24 hours, and the unrelenting attacks by the Boko Haram at a time the Muslim faithful are observing the holy festival of Eid el Fitri.
