Six People Electrocuted In Anambra During Burial Ceremony




During the burial ceremony of a chieftain of Nnanka community, Anambra State, James Ibe on Saturday, six persons were electrocuted by a 33kv High Tension wire.



According to reports, the tragic incident happened when the victims were erecting canopies for the burial ceremony of the deceased – the men had lifted the canopy to place it in the appropriate spot when the tip of the canopy touched the 33kv high tension wire and got the six severely electrocuted with one person dying instantly.

War on Terror: Police arrest another ranking member of Boko Haram



*Suspect says he is the “Chief-Butcher” of Balmo Forest

Following the massive onslaught by Security Forces on the activities of the insurgent group, Boko Haram, at the Balmo Forest Bauchi State, Police detectives attached to Bauchi State Police Command on Saturday, 12/7/2014 about 2pm have arrested one Mohammed Zakari, a male of 30 years old and senior member of the Boko Haram terrorists’ organization along Darazo-Basrika Road while fleeing from the intensive counter insurgency operations going on around the Balmo Forest. The suspect, who hails from Kaigamari Village, Daptchari in Darazo Local Government Area, #Bauchi State is the self-styled “chief butcher” of the insurgent group at the Balmo Forest Camp and is linked with the recent slaughter of seven (7) people, including women and children. Findings as well as disclosures from the suspect will assist the Law enforcement agencies in tracking down some other members of the terror cell.

Kidnappers den discovered in Orlu, Imo State



Residents of Okporo-Orlu road and neighboring streets woke up today to heavy gunfire as policemen engaged suspected kidnappers in a rifle battle. Based to an eye-witness, a kidnappers den was discovered at Okporu-Orlu in Imo state. Two members of the gang were shot dead while one victim was rescued. Details  are still sketchy right now but brings an upgrade later...

Lagos issues alert on Ebola virus, gives precautionary tips



The Lagos state government has issued an alert on the deadly Ebola virus currently sweeping through some West African countries. The government in a statement signed by the state's Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, issued the alert as a precautionary measure to forestall the outbreak of the virus in the state. Countries like Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea have recorded a number of cases of the disease. The statement reads in part below;

Nassarawa lawmakers start impeachment proceedings against the Governor



Nassarawa State House of Assembly members have commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor of the state, Umaru Al-Makura.  At its plenary session this morning, the Speaker of the House, Ahmed Mohammed, directed its clerk, Ego Maikeffi to issue a 16-count charge impeachment notice, signed by 20 of the 24 lawmakers, to the governor for alleged gross misconduct, extra-budgetary expenses and  misappropriation of funds. Nasarawa has 20 PDP, lawmakers and four APC, lawmakers. The governor is a member of the APC.

Terrible Photos emerge of 25 women who were slaughtered in Baghdad after being branded prostitutes




Horrific pictures have emerged showing the bodies of a 25 women murdered in a raid on a Baghdad brothel. Gunmen wearing camouflage and carrying weapons fitted with silencers reportedly burst into two apartments in the city's Zayouna district on Saturday evening before massacring everyone inside.
 
Police reached the building to locate blood streaming down the stairs. Inside they discovered the bodies of a large number of women scattered around two apartments

Nigeria meets all criteria for ECOWAS single currency – CBN



Nigeria is the only country in the region that has met the “primary convergence criteria”.
The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, on Economic Policies, Sarah Alade, said Nigeria meets all the criteria to adopt the ECOWAS single currency.
Ms. Alade made this known at the 37th Technical Committee meeting of the West African Monetary Zones in Abuja.
She said Nigeria is the only country in the region that has met the “primary convergence criteria” which were set for the member-states in 2013.  There are four primary criteria including the attainment of single-digit inflation rate at the end of each year and fiscal deficit of not more than four per cent of Gross Domestic Product, GDP.

Inhuman: Ritualists Cut Off Woman’s Head in Ondo





Tongues are wagging in Arigidi Akoko in Akoko North West part of Ondo State over the chopping off the head of a female for alleged ritual purpose. Already, Police authorities in the state have ordered full blown investigation in to the incident which is  causing panic in the community. Police sources said the headless body of the deceased was found along old Ogbagi/Arigidi Akoko road at about 9pm on Saturday.

  Girl-child education advocate, Malala Yousafzai, accompanied  by her dad, met with Pres. Jonathan today Monday July 14 at the State House. Speaking during the meeting, president Jonathan said;

“I personally believe that since about 50 per cent of our population are female, we will be depriving ourselves of half of our available human resources if we fail to educate our girls adequately or suppress their ambitions in any way. We are therefore taking steps to curb all forms of discrimination against girls and women, and have also undertaken many affirmative actions on their behalf" he stated. 3 Men Nabbed In The UK For Sexual Exploitation and human trafficking. [PICTURED]




Three Nigerians – Olusoji Oluwafemi, 44, Johnson Olayinka, 45, and Florence Obadiaru, 48, have been arrested and jailed in the UK, for 13 years collectively for human trafficking.


According to Daily Mail UK, a 23-year-old Nigerian girl was conned into flying to Heathrow Airport on a bogus passport, with the promise of education, a job and new home.

When she got to London, she was molested, beaten and subjected to “juju” ritual before being sent to Italy  to become a prostitute.

Video: Dead young girl Wakes Up at Her Own Funeral




A cellphone video has captured the incredible moment a 3yr old girl woke up during preparations for her own funeral in a church in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, in the Philippines. The girl had been declared dead by doctors at a local hospital on Friday July 11th after being taken there the day before suffering from a fever for several days. 

Impeachment: Panel indicts Nyako, absolves deputy





There are strong indications that the seven-man panel set up to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako and his deputy, Mr. Bala Ngilari, has indicted the governor but absolved the deputy.

It was learnt in Abuja on Sunday, that the panel set up by the immediate past acting Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Ambrose Mammadi, to investigate allegations levelled against the duo arrived at the decision after reviewing exhibits tendered by members of the State House of Assembly who are the complainants.

Fashola to Nigerians: 'If You Want to Have Stable Electricity Supply, Vote PDP Out in 2015'



Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, while marking his 2,600 days in office at an elaborate ceremony held at the Blue Roof of the Lagos Television premises, has said voting out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from power in next year’s general election is the only way the country can have stable electricity.

According to The Nation, Fashola said electricity crisis in the country is caused by lack of ideas and insincerity of purpose on the part of Federal Government.

Emmanuel Ifeajuna: Commonwealth Games gold to facing a firing squad

The first time Emmanuel Ifeajuna appeared before a crowd of thousands he did something no black African had ever done. He won a gold medal at an international sporting event. “Nigeria Creates World Sensation,” ran the headline in the
 West African Pilot after Ifeajuna’s record-breaking victory in the high jump at the 1954 Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver. He was the pride not just of Nigeria but of a whole continent. 

An editorial asked: “Who among our people did not weep for sheer joy when Nigeria came uppermost, beating all whites and blacks together?”

Harry Potter actor David Legeno found dead in California aged 50




Hikers found British actor, who played werewolf Fenrir Greyback in Harry Potter films, in a remote area of Death Valley


British actor David Legeno, who appeared as a werewolf in the Harry Potter films, was found dead by hikers in a remote area of Death Valley, California police said on Friday.

The Inyo County sheriff’s office said the body of Legeno, 50, was found early on Sunday morning and a helicopter was used to transport it from the area.

Based on eyewitnesses, the person pictured above identified as Rasaki Adebayo was on Wednesday July 9th caught in the Awo Hall of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife in Osun state, trying to create explosives. He was caught using what appeared to be petrol combined with chemical. The students said he was attempting to blow up a block in the hall. The person was immediately arrested and remains in police custody.
