Obesere Rape: “As I speak with you, I am still going through pains. After the bleeding stopped" - Victim



The 29-year-old businesswoman, Olanike Olaiya, who was allegedly raped by popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Abass Akande, aka Obesere, has cried out one more time, calling on police authorities not to allow her matter with Obesere to be swept under the carpet so that she will not die. According to the lady who spoke with Vanguard yesterday, Obesere’s insertion of his ring in her private part, leading to bleeding and pain, may not be unconnected with ritual activities. She refuted allegations made by Obesere claiming they were lovers and that she wanted to use the rape saga to blackmail and extort money from him.

Mother sells three-day-old baby for ₦260,000 in Akwa Ibom



In a report Published by Punch, a nursing mother in Akwa Ibom named Imaobong Udoh (pictured above) has been arrested for allegedly selling her 3-day old baby girl for N260,000. Full report below
Also arrested along with Imaobong were four persons for allegedly participating in the theft of the baby.  They are the buyer, Mrs. Regina James; her husband, Mfon James; the traditional birth attendant who delivered the baby, Mrs. Comfort Henry; and Mr Emmanuel Okon, a homeopathic doctor, who arranged the sale.

1500 victims in Haiti sue UN over cholera epidemic



The United Nations is facing a huge new lawsuit over the outbreak of cholera in Haiti that has widely been blamed on its peacekeepers, after 1,500 Haitian victims and their family members sued the international body in a federal court in Brooklyn in a class action.

The lawsuit filed in US District Court in New York's Eastern District also seeks to force the UN to bring sanitation and clean water to the Haitian communities in areas affected by the outbreak which started in October 2010.

UK to redeploy its drones from Afghanistan to Nigeria, Africa and the Middle East



Ben Emmerson, the UN rapporteur monitoring counter-terrorist operations by unmanned aircraft, says that the UK’s squadron of 10 Reaper drones, which is now dislocated in Afghanistan, is unlikely to return to the UK after the international military contingent is fully withdrawn from Afghanistan. Most likely, the squadron will be redeployed to Africa and the Middle East to be used against jihadists there. The drones will be based in countries like Nigeria or Djibouti.

 Malaysian Police have released images of the two men who boarded the missing Malaysia Airlines flight with stolen passports but say one of the men, 19-year-old Iranian Pouria Nur Mohammad Mehrdad, (pictured left) is known to them and they do not think he is a terrorist.  The police say the teenager is an Iranian asylum seeker on his way to Germany . Malaysian police say the identity of the other man is still under investigation and no longer strongly believes that the missing plane was attacked by terrorists. They say are now looking into four main areas: sabotage, hijacking or psychological problems among either the crew or the passengers.

Woman Cuts Off Boyfriend's P*nis Before taking his life



A Chinese woman, Yeung Ki, chopped off her former boyfriend's, Zhou Hui, pê-nis with scissors and then killed him with a hammer after he rapêd her, a Hong Kong court heard on Tuesday.

The forty one year old woman, who is on trial in the city, admitted killing the 32-year-old piano teacher on Boxing Day 2012 but denies murder.

According to report, Yeung, a Chinese mainlander and Hong Kong resident, killed Zhou after an affair with the married man lasting years, during which he had deserted her while pregnant and borrowed money without paying it back on numerous occasions.

Chief of Army Staff in the fight against Boko Haram, relocates to troubled North East



The Chief of Army staff,  Lt. Gen, Kenneth Minimah has relocated to the warring North East zone of Nigeria where in actuality the Boko Haram insurgence has been on the escalation in recent times. The Army Chief is said to have relocated there after the Feb. 26th directive by the National Assembly members for him to be present at the insurgent zone so he is able to personally monitor the problem there and give proper direction to the fight contrary to the terror group. 

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence and the Army, George Sekibo has confirmed the Army Chief's relocation.

Clergyman: Shehu of Borno declares 3-day fasting over Boko Haram



Following the recent attacks Boko Haram members on the residents of Borno state, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn-Garbai, has directed all residents of the state, both Christians and Muslims, to embark on a 3-day fasting and prayer period to seek the face of God over the unfortunate incidents that have befallen the state in recent times. The fast is to start tomorrow, Tuesday 11th.
In a statement released today from the Shehu's office, the monarch said the prayer session is also to seek for God's mercy on the land.
"I am appealing to all residents of the state to observe a three-day fasting to seek Allah’s mercy toward ending the crisis facing us. I believe we should continue to seek for Allah’s help toward restoring peace in the state" the statement read.

Missing Malaysian plane: Search team find plane door and tail, Passengers still missing




A Vietnamese search team has found what they believe is part of a door and an airplane's tail in the first major breakthrough in the hunt for missing Boeing 777 flight aircraft, Wall Street Journal reports

Debris from the plane have been located around 50 miles from south-west of Tho Chu Island, and investigators are narrowing the focus of their inquiries on the possibility that the plane disintegrated in mid-flight. (Pic above shows what is believed to be a piece of debris of missing airplane)

'The fact that we are unable to find any debris so far appears to indicate that the aircraft is likely to have disintegrated at around 35,000 feet,' someone who is involved in the investigations in Malaysia said Sunday. Continue...

Boko Haram’s ‘Human Butcher(lead specialist/Hitman)’ Captured



Nigerian security forces operating with the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Friday captured suspected terrorists, including one described as “Boko Haram’s lead specialist in human butchery” as they continue their offensive against the insurgents along Nigeria’s border with Chad.

A dusk attack by the terrorists in their bid to overrun markets in communities in the outskirts of Monguno and NNPC at New Marte, Borno State along the border with Chad, was also repelled by the MNJTF.
