Swiss Red Cross Worker Killed in Shelling of Donetsk: DPR Defense Ministry





A Swiss Red Cross worker was killed on Thursday in heavy artillery bombardment of central Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic said.


A RIA Novosti correspondent earlier reported that downtown Donetsk was targeted by mortar fire followed by shelling from Grad and Uragan multiple-launch rocket systems.
"The total number of victims is still unknown. We know for certain that Swiss citizen Laurent Etienn, a worker for the International Committee of the Red Cross, was killed in the shelling," the DPR ministry said in a statement.

Syrian Kurds Preparing to Fight Islamic States in Town Bordering Turkey: Reports




Syrian Kurds are getting ready for a long war against the Islamic State (IS) militants in Kobani, a town in northern Syria also known as Ayn al-Arab, al-Arabiya reported on Thursday.

According to the media reports, IS militants are likely to enter the besieged Kobani, which is one of the largest towns in the Kurdish region bordering Turkey.

On Thursday, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that clashes between IS and Kurdish fighters were going on "hundreds of meters away" from the east and southeast of Kobani, and some two or three kilometers away west of the city.

Occupy Central Movement Endangers Hong Kong Democratic Development: China’s Ruling Party

"The illegal gatherings of the Occupy Central movement, instigated by some people in Hong Kong, do not promote democratic and constitutional development in the special administrative region. Instead, they are ruining it," Xinhua, a Chinese state-run media outlet reports.

African Leaders Are Cowards Says President Mugabe





AFRICANGLOBE – President Mugabe has branded some African leaders as cowards who are prepared to sell out their countries for financial aid and material benefits.

In an interview broadcast by ZBC last night, the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces said the leaders’ actions will trigger revolts if youths discover that they are being used to serve imperialists.

He said the current crop of leaders was quite different from revolutionaries who fought for Africa’s independence.

Patient Quarantined In Hawaii as Doctors Fear it’s the Next Ebola Case




An unidentified person has been quarantined in Hawaii and is currently being tested for Ebola. According to Hawaii health officials, the patient was placed in isolation after exhibiting possible symptoms consistent with Ebola. He is being treated at the Queen’s Medical Center in Hawaii. Authorities said they were being especially cautious because of heightened concern about Ebola, but the patient could have a number of illnesses. "The hospital is being very careful, as they should be, to take precautions making sure the patient is in isolation and making sure the people and the public stay safe," Dr. Melissa Viray of the Hawaii Department of Health told ABC affiliate KITV. "That being said, it's still an if. This is not a 'for sure' thing." The situation comes days after a man in Texas -- identified as Thomas Eric Duncan -- became the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the United States. 

Court acquits former PDP chairman, Vincent Ogbulafor, over ₦170m fraud





A Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, today October 2nd discharged and acquitted former National Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Vincent Ogbulafor, of a N170m fraud charge brought against him in 2001 by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC). Mr Ogbulafor who served as Minister of Special Duties in 2001 was alleged to have connived with one Mr Emeka Ebila, the then secretary of the National Economic Intelligence Committee, to defraud the Federal government of N170m through payments to contractors for jobs that were not done.

Defence HQ releases statement on purported video of Shekau in circulation, says its fake




The Nigeria military has reacted to the purported Boko Haram video released earlier today where Shekau or his fake said he was still alive. The military insists that he was killed last month and that the video is fake. Read the statement posted on the Defense HQ website below... 


The Defence Headquarters is studying the claims made in the video purportedly released by the terrorists showing their leader Abubakar Shekau as dismissing his death. From immediate observation and what some online news outlets claimed to have seen, the video did not indicate when it was shot neither did it show any proof of life or currency such as screen time or date.

Dimeji Bankole's 7 year old daughter dies



Ex-House of Reps Speaker Dimeji Bankole has lost his 7 year old daughter, Yewande Semiat Bankole to sickle cell. She died in a London hospital yesterday October 1st. The Family released a statement today. Check it out after the jump

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today October 2, 2014 arraigned the duo of Alhaji Abdul Ahmadu and Bello Isa before Justice Farouq Lawal of the Kano State High Court on a 3-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and obtaining money by false pretence.
The accused persons allegedly induced one Alhaji Mohammed Sani Utai to part with the sum of N6, 100,000 (Six Million One Hundred Thousand Naira Only) under the pretext that they were going to sell a Mercedes Benz GLK car to him.

Ex-MD of News Agency of Nigeria, Oluremi Oyo, passes on @62




Former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN and first female President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mrs Oluremi Oyo has died. She died yesterday October 1st at a hospital in London. Her husband, Mr Vincent Oyo confirmed her death this morning. Mrs Oyo have been battling with cancer for a while. Born in 1952, Mrs Oyo served while the Senior Special Assistant to President Olusegun Obasanjo for media and publicity from 2003 to 2007, the 1st woman to be appointed to this kind of position. She was appointed in 2007 as the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria. She's survived by her husband, children and grandchildren.
