Panic, as confab delegate suffers cardiac arrest



The ongoing National Conference was thrown into panic yesterday when a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, and delegate from Oyo State, Chief Niyi Akintola, had a cardiac arrest.

Akintola had been a vibrant member of the conference usually bringing his wealth of legal experience to guide the activities of the body. Inaugurated on March 17, the conference has been plagued with the death of three delegates, while some had fainted during proceedings.

Sitting arrangement adjusted at Confab, Ozekhome gets Boko Haram threat





MOVED by the issue of time frame,  delegates at the on- going National Conference yesterday adjusted its sittings to, among others, allow Muslim delegates observe the Ramadan fast just as Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN),  told the conference that he had gotten  a message that the Boko Harm sect  was threatening an “attack even bigger than Nyanya blast” .

CANFAB full of sleepy old men –Kalu



A former Abia State governor, Orji Kalu, has described the ongoing National Conference in Abuja as a home to old men who do not have the strength to decide the future of the nation.
Speaking at the Centenary Lecture organised by the Oyo State branch of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kalu, who delivered a lecture titled, ‘Nigeria: A Nation in Quest of Credible Leadership’, said Nigeria would not move forward unless the first generation leaders withdrew gradually from politics.

Disagreement Rocks Yoruba Comitee Set Up for confab In Lagos.



THE South-West geo-political zone, yesterday, was divided on how the outcome of the proposed National Conference should become law. While some agreed that the report should be sent to the National Assembly for consideration as declared by President Goodluck Jonathan, others said a referendum of the people is sufficient.

NATIONAL CONFAB: We don’t have ‘no-go’ area




LAGOS — PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has assured Nigerians that the proposed National Conference will firm up the country’s unity and not threaten its corporate existence.

“I will, therefore, like to allay the fears of those who think the Conference will call the integrity of Nigeria into question. This National Discourse will strengthen our union and address issues that are often on the front burner, and are too frequently ignored,” he said while inaugurating the 13-man Presidential Advisory Committee on National Dialogue at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday.

National confab, attempt to deceive Nigerians — CNPP

MAKURDI—The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, CNPP, has declared the President Goodluck Jonathan’s proposed National Conference as another dummy by the presidency to deceive Nigerians.
According to them, ”the process will definitely be manipulated by the government to suit their own purpose. The fact is that, at the end of the day, it will turn out to another jamboree and avenue for people to make money from the system.”
