21-year Old Precious Okeke Wins Miss Africa UK Pageant



Precious Okeke, a Nigerian model fought off fierce competition to win the 2013/2014 Miss Black Africa UK pageant, held at the Royal Regency Hall in east London.

By far the toughest contest since the inception of the pageant two years ago, there were 30 finalists from 17 African countries who made it to the last stage.

Girl who lost 90% of skin after Taking Children's Drug wins $63 Million



A teenager who went blind and lost 90% of her skin after suffering a horrifying allergic reaction to the pain reliever Children's Motrin has won $63 million in compensation. Samantha Reckis was only 7 when she took the children's ibuprofen, manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, around Thanksgiving 2003 to ward off the symptoms of a fever.
But rather than heal her, the drug induced toxic epidermal necrolysis — a potentially fatal condition that causes the top layer of skin, the epidermis, to detach from the lower layers. The rare ailment kills 40% of those diagnosed with it — and comes from a severe allergic reaction to medications such as barbiturates, penicillins and sulphonamides.

Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ Wins Korean Song Of The Year Award



“Gangnam Style” has been crowned song of the year by South Korea’s music industry association.
Rapper PSY’s worldwide hit that topped charts internationally last year won the Digital Daesang honour at the 2013 Golden Disk Awards, considered South Korea’s version of the Grammys after breaking Justin Bieber’s record of most views on YouTube, and going ahead to reach the 1 billion mark.

Prof. Wole Soyinka wins Awolowo Prize for Leadership

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, Wednesday, emerged winner of the first Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Leadership. Chairman of the selection committee, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, who unveiled the recipient of the maiden award, yesterday in Lagos, said: “Nominees for the prize are expected to have demonstrated, to a substantial degree, the attributes considered to have characterised Chief Awolowo’s leadership style.
“They include integrity, credibility, discipline, courage, selflessness, accountability, tenacity of purpose, visionary and people-centred leadership, as well as respect for the rule of law and press freedom.

Amazingly, Bode George, Convicted Criminal, Wins Leadership Award!





The All Africa Students Union (AASU) has picked former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George as the winner of its 15th edition of the Africa Leadership award. George’s nomination was based on recommendations by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the ratification by the executive council of AASU.

Disclosing this was the Nigerian representative at AASU and Project Co-ordinator of the award,

Olufemi Lawson, who said that George was selected from among the many nominees for the 2012 award based on his commitment to youth development and his defence of democratic institutions.

The award would be conferred on him on December 12, during which a distinguished leadership lecture would be delivered.

AASU is a regional students organisation, headquartered in Accra, Ghana with over 54 African countries as members.

Past recipients of the ASUU bi-annual Africa Leadership Award included former Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Kofi Anan, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Afe Babalola, a former minister from South Africa, and Nobel laureate, late Prof Wangari Maathai among others.

Paschal Eronmose Wins Gulder Ultimate Search Season 9




Against all odds, hurdles, rigorous training and days of sleeping in the rain, Paschal Eronmose beat the other contestants to become the Ultimate Man in this year’s edition of Gulder Ultimate Search, GUS. Paschal almost lost his chance to Onyinye Udodi, who lost the prize by whisker, having been in line to becoming the first ever Ultimate Woman. But she made history; for the first time in the history of GUS, a female was the first runner-up.
