Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki Resumes Academic Activities




One day before the FG's ultimatum to ASUU expires, academic activities have resumed at the Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki

Recommencement of activities have followed a directive requesting the lecturers to the return to work issued the authorities of the university. Lecturers of the university as members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had participated in the strike.
News Agency of Nigeria's (NAN's) correspondents visited the university on Tuesday and reported that lectures were going on in virtually all departments at the three campuses of the institution.

Students of the Department of Animal Sciences and Law Faculty, affirmed that they received lectures in the morning.


"We have started lectures since last week, even now we just received lectures but I don’t know about other departments," Okechukwu Mbam, a second year agric science student said.

A Senior Lecturer in the Department of English, who wanted to stay anonymous, revealed that lectures commenced last week at the institution, adding that students were gradually returning.

"We came back to school based on the directive of the school management even before the Federal Government’s directive," he added.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Francis Idike, said the resumption of activities was in the interest of both students and staff.

On November 28, the FG gave ASUU's lecturers one week ultimatum to call off strike or they will be sacked and their positions will be announced vacant as from Wednesday, December 4.
