Anambra State Governor, Obi Presents 1.5 Billion Naira Cheque To Schools



Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has presented a cheque of 1.5 billion naira to 150 public and private schools for infrastructural upgrade, under the State Education Programme Implementation Investment Project, SEPIP.
The presentation was made at the official launch of SEPIP, a World Bank project, which held at the Women Development Center in Awka.


SEPIP is a 150 million dollar World Bank intervention project in collaboration with the Federal Government, in which only Anambra, Bauchi and Ekiti states would benefit from.
The project is aimed at promoting quality education especially in the area of science, improved and equitable access to education no matter the location and efficiency in the delivery of knowledge.
Cheques of 10 million naira each were presented to the schools.

Anambra is the first state where the project was launched following the national flag off which held in Abuja.
The delegation from the World Bank led by the Country Director, Marie Francois Marie-Nelly was taken on an inspection tour to the Queen of the Rosary College, Christ the King College and Dennis Memorial Grammar School, all in Onitsha.

Meanwhile, Obi also paid over 1.2 billion naira to pensioners, to clear off the death and life pension and gratuity owed civil servants from September 2012 to January 2013. The State Commissioner for Local Government, Azuka Enemuo, who was at the event spoke on the implementation of policies by the present administration towards delivering the dividends of democracy to the people as evidenced by the pension payment.

While making the cheque presentation, Obi urged the beneficiaries to report back to him if they do not receive their payment alerts by Friday this week.
