Spoilt 18 year old sues parents to support her after she ran away
Rachel Canning (left) turned up to Morris County Court, New Jersey, yesterday dressed in her school uniform and pearls for the first hearing in her sensational case against her parents (right) who she claimed 'abandoned' her and owe her money. But her hopes were dampened when Judge Peter Bogaard read an expletive-laden and vicious answerphone message left by Rachel, from Lincoln Park, New Jersey, to her mother, Elizabeth, and said: 'Have you ever in your experience seen such gross disrespect for a parent? I don't see it in my house.'
Reply to Sadiq Abacha'Open letter to Prof. - on behalf of Wole Soyinka by Ayo Sogunro
Sadiq Sani Abacha gets the first reply to his open letter to Prof. Wole Soyinka from writer/activist, Ayo Sogunro. Read below and tell us what you think...
I do not know you personally, but I admire your filial bravery - however misguided - in defending the honour of your father, the late General Sani Abacha. This in itself is not a problem; it is an obligation—in this cultural construct of ours - for children to rise to the defence of their parents, no matter what infamy or perfidy the said parent might have dabbled in.

Ogun’s Chronicle of Maladministration: The Sad Story Of Imagbon Community
Some visitors and passersby had, over the past few months commended what they more often than not, refer to as the new face of Ogun state going by the massive road construction embarked upon by the present administration. The sprawling six-lane 'highways' and the walkways, the flyovers and the N250million pedestrian crossing all made up the major reason for this new-found love for the Gateway State. Impressive and intimidating as they are, the huge construction site which Ogun State is as of now triggers some yet-to-be-answered questions. .

China captures 3 more suspects in station attack
BEIJING (AP) — Police have captured the three remaining suspects in a slashing rampage at a train station in southwestern China that killed 29 people, state media said Monday.
Authorities say the attack in Kunming city that also wounded 143 was carried out by separatists from the far-western region of Xinjiang.
Clashes in Xinjiang between authorities and ethnic Uighurs over the past year have left scores dead, but the assault Saturday evening occurred more than 1,500 kilometers (900 miles) to the southeast in Yunnan province, which has not had a history of such unrest.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the banker who turned whistleblower has a revolutionary message for Nigeria
Aristocrats rarely turn whistleblower. After all, they are more often than not the beneficiaries of a social order that guarantees them a life of privilege. So the least one could expect is that they avoid rocking the boat. Criticism of the status quo is supposed to be the preserve of the have-nots.
Hence the surprise of many when Lamido Sanusi, scion of one of the most powerful royal families in northern Nigeria, started talking publiclyabout alleged corruption in the oil industry and billions in missing revenue.
Sanusi had, up until now, led a pretty predictable life. He attended the right schools, enjoyed a successful banking career and in 2009 was appointed governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Hardly your stereotypical activist candidate.
Federal Government recruits forest security men to fight Boko Haram
According to Punch, the Federal Government has resorted to recruiting forest guards to assist the Joint Task Force in combating Boko Haram insurgents in the northern part of the country.
Most of the insurgents are believed to be using routes cutting through forests in states like Borno, Yobe, Taraba and Adamawa to smuggle arms into the country from Cameroon and other neighbouring countries.
The Conservator General of National Park Service, Mr. Haruna Abubakar, told the House of Representatives Committee on Environment on Monday that the guards would help the JTF to comb the forests for hideouts of insurgents.
