Fourth time in 10 years, Femi Kuti Bags 4th Grammy Nomination.



For the fourth time in the space of 10 years  Femi Kuti has been nominated for the Grammy Awards.

The Nigerian Afrobeat singer and saxophonist has been nominated in the ‘World Music‘ category for his 2013 ‘No Place For My Dream‘ album released under Knitting Factory Records.

Others in the category include French group Gipsy Kings, SA male choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Indian musician Ravi Shankar.

In 2003, Kuti picked up his first Grammy Award nomination but lost out to Panamanian salsa singer Rubén Blades. He similarly lost in 2010 when he was nominated in the same category. US banjo player  Bela Fleck walked away with the award.

Man Paraded By Nigerian Police For Sending Insulting Messages To Kogi Deputy Governor.



A 26-year-old man, Olaiya Ibeun, has been paraded by the Kogi State Police Command for allegedly sending insulting texts to the state deputy governor, Mr Yomi Awoniyi.

Parading the suspect yesterday, the state Commissioner of Police Mr Saidu Madawaki said the suspect also sent an identical message to the Chairman of Mopa-Muro Local Government Area Mr Funsho Daniyan and Mr Eric Fiki, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs.

ASUU: University of Ibadan set to resume teaching activities Next Year



The University of Ibadan (UI) is set to resume teaching activities on January 4, 2014. This decision was announced by the Governing Council of the institution and was based on the directives of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities and the National Universities Commission. However, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said strike still on.

Last son of the late Afro Beat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Seun who has taken over his late dad’s band, Egypt 80, after many years, has acknowledged that his dad, the Afro Beat creator, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, died of AIDS related ailments.

Seun Kuti, confessed to ‘Rubbin Minds with Ebuka’ on Y!TV, that the music maestro and his mother both died from the dreaded disease despite denials by family members when Fela died in 1997. It was actually HIV/AIDS that killed him.

Doctor Arrested For Detaining Babies, Mothers Over Non-Payment Of Hospital Bills.



 A hospital where nursing mothers and their babies were illegally detained in dehumanising conditions for several months over non-payment of hospital bills has been uncovered in Lagos.

The hospital was uncovered by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA, in collaboration with the Office of the Public Defender, after a tip off.

A 15-feet (4.572 metres)- snake has been killed by a 23-year-old herdsman, Bayo Ibrahim, close to the Ado-Afao-Ekiti road in Ekiti State.
Spectators called it various names, including “Aminurin”, “Ojola” and “Ako Monomono”, which are all Yoruba names for a massive snake. It was learnt that the snake had been killing domestic animals, including dogs, sheep, goats and chickens.

The size of the snake attracted spectators from as far as Odo-Ado, Oke-Ila, Basiri, Nova Road and GRA in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, to the sparsely-populated Afao road, turning it into a Mecca of sorts.
