Chinese internet users who want to post videos on any local video sharing websites will have to register under their real names. This regulation only applies to Chinese video hosting sites. From now on, Chinese users will be asked to confirm their identity by presenting an ID card to the webpage's administration to be able to upload videos.
The new rule has been implemented to "prevent vulgar content, base art forms, exaggerated violence and sexual content in Internet video having a negative effect on society," China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) said on its website.
