According to law enforcement officers, the 23-year-old victim, who has yet to be identified, refused to obey the police after he robbed a convenience store and tried to attack them with a knife. The officers reportedly fired about five bullets each at the young man.

None of the officers were hurt, police said. They were put on administrative duty pending an investigation.
St. Louis City Police Chief Sam Dotson said that the incident was not anyhow related to the events in Ferguson. As he was issuing his statement following the killing an angry crowd started gathering at the scene.
