14 killed, 230 cows stolen in fresh Plateau attacks

There is no let up in the attacks in Plateau State as no fewer than 14 persons have been killed and 230 cows stolen by gunmen in Yelwa town in Shendam and Jos East local government areas of the state
It was gathered that the gunmen attacked Yelwa village in the early hours of Monday, shooting sporadically into the air and killing 12 people. The rampaging gunmen succeeded in rustling over 200 cattle.
A source in Shendam, who does not want his name in print said the gunmen who came in their numbers were heavily armed.

The incident also followed a similar style in Babayo-Zarazong village in Jos East Local and Government Area when another group of gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked the village killing two persons and burning down houses.  It was gathered that about 15 homes were razed by the gunmen in Jos East.
The state’s Police Command spokesman, DSP Emmanuel Abu, confirmed the attacks to our correspondent on Monday.
He did not however confirm the casualty figures as he said the command was waiting for report from divisional police officers in the areas.
He said, “Yes there was an attack in Shendam and some people were killed, but I don’t have the exact casualty figure in both incidents.”
Abu added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. CP Nasiru Oki, has deployed enough security in the affected villages to control the security situation.
He however said that no arrest have been made, adding that police would do every possible to bring the culprits to book.
