"He died in a vehicle crash in Donetsk." The Brazilian joined the Ukrainian outfit in 2008 and made six appearances scoring one goal.

"He was a gifted footballer, open and friendly guy," they added. "Maicon loved life and knew how to make it positive and bright.
"Tragic, untimely and absurd death took away an excellent person from our ranks. Maicon was just 25 years old.
"It is just a terrible bereavement for every both of us. FC Shakhtar expresses condolences and sympathy to Maicon's family and friends. May he rest in peace..."Shakhtar regretfully informs that today the life span of a footballer Maicon tragically ended.
