JUJU: PDP officials accused of oath taking in Enugu

Crisis is now brewing in Igboeze North Local Government Council of Enugu State over an alleged oath taking by some Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, officials in the local government.
Twenty councillors of the local government have however demanded that those involved be tried and punished. It was gathered that the party leadership in the state has directed the Enugu North Senatorial district office of the party headed by Chief Mike Ejinma, to probe the allegation now rocking the council area.
Tension continues to mount as the councillors passed a resolution condemning the development, while affirming their confidence in the chairman of the council, Mr. Bona Onu who is being vilified along side the council party chairman, Mr. Luke Uroko. Uroko, is being accused of highhandedness and running the party as a personal fief, even as he also alleging that 18 electoral ward chairmen and some ward officials were involved in oath-taking.

The eight-point resolution of the council’s legislative arm was signed by the leader of the legislature, Hon. Kenneth Odo, the deputy leader, Hon. Tochi Mama as well as the rest 18 councillors.
Describing the action of those who took oath as barbaric, they stated that “we condemn in strong terms, the exercise by some party members, as this has mortgaged their conscience, contrary to the constitution of the party.
“As leaders of these wards, we state that this barbaric conduct is unacceptable in our local government area and hereby urge the party to address this matter strictly in accordance with the constitution as a way of deterring others from engaging in shameful behaviour”, the councilors posited.
They equally dismissed as untenable, the allegations the rebellious ward party officials leveled against Uroko and the council chairman, saying the allegations are an attempt to divert attention from the grievous act of oath-taking into which they allowed themselves to be misled.
One of the party officials who said he backed out of the alleged oath-taking, Mr. Samuel Idoko, ward secretary for Ozzi Ward V, in a separate interview explained that he did not take part because of the perceived implications of the action, condemning those who did.
On his part, Uroko maintained that the officials confessed to having taken the said oath and that it was based on this that the party had also set up a committee to investigate those officials involved and their sponsors.
