Community Demands Benefit From FG For Hosting Ex-militants

The indigenes of Ogada 2 Community in Obubura Local Government Area of Cross River State have demanded that the Federal Government make efforts to ensure their social and economic development as promised by the Amnesty Committee. The people of the community which hosted the Federal Government’s Post Amnesty Programme, used to execute the rehabilitation programme of over 2,000 ex-militants from the Oil rich, Niger Delta region. Over a year after the conclusion of the Programme, at the NYSC Camp in Obubura, the indigenes through one of their Chiefs have stated that they will not allow the programme to hold again, except they are duly compensated.

Plans are now on ground to further train about 1000 more ex-militants at the camp, as disclosed by one of the Presidential Amnesty Officials.  The community chief said this will not happen. He further complained that the community is yet to feel the impact of the federal government, in terms of development as promised by the Amnesty Committee.
