Sadiq Sani Abacha gets the first reply to his open letter to Prof. Wole Soyinka from writer/activist, Ayo Sogunro. Read below and tell us what you think...
I do not know you personally, but I admire your filial bravery - however misguided - in defending the honour of your father, the late General Sani Abacha. This in itself is not a problem; it is an obligation—in this cultural construct of ours - for children to rise to the defence of their parents, no matter what infamy or perfidy the said parent might have dabbled in.

Ogun’s Chronicle of Maladministration: The Sad Story Of Imagbon Community

Some visitors and passersby had, over the past few months commended what they more often than not, refer to as the new face of Ogun state going by the massive road construction embarked upon by the present administration. The sprawling  six-lane 'highways' and the walkways, the flyovers and the N250million pedestrian crossing all made up the major reason for this new-found love for the Gateway State. Impressive and intimidating as they are, the huge construction site which Ogun State is as of now triggers some yet-to-be-answered questions. .

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the banker who turned whistleblower has a revolutionary message for Nigeria

Lamido Sanusi: ‘If the population as a whole starts protesting what is going on in our country, how many of them can they kill?' Photograph: Stefan Wermuth/Reuters
Aristocrats rarely turn whistleblower. After all, they are more often than not the beneficiaries of a social order that guarantees them a life of privilege. So the least one could expect is that they avoid rocking the boat. Criticism of the status quo is supposed to be the preserve of the have-nots.
Hence the surprise of many when Lamido Sanusi, scion of one of the most powerful royal families in northern Nigeria, started talking publiclyabout alleged corruption in the oil industry and billions in missing revenue.
Sanusi had, up until now, led a pretty predictable life. He attended the right schools, enjoyed a successful banking career and in 2009 was appointed governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Hardly your stereotypical activist candidate.

Poverty Alleviation The Wrong Way

 Editorial (Guardian Newspaper)

donationTHE recent warning by the Lagos State Government to politicians, philanthropists and other affluent members of society to stop donating motorcycles and tricycles to people, as supposed means of poverty alleviation and employment is really timely and commendable. It has appropriately challenged a disgraceful, even insulting practice that has gradually become the norm in most communities across the country. Commercial motorcycle and tricycle riders are on the increase because a mindset has over time been built that it is a lucrative trade thus making people jettison quest for real skills and making governments too lazy in dealing appropriately with challenges of transportation on one hand and unemployment on the other.

"Life without Oil" - Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola

If George Etomi had not become such a successful legal practitioner, one thing I know he would have done extremely well and indeed on a global scale is to play squash rackets.

Many years back in Surulere, precisely over two and a half decades, it was a marvel to watch this graceful sportsman play this game, (whose evolution it is rumoured is located in some not too palatable origins), with the precision, competitiveness and expertise, that humbled his opponents, and dare I say frequent victims in the finest traditions of sportsmanship of honour in victory and gracefulness in defeat that I have never seen on our land.
