Air France Cancels Over 70% of Flights to Russia Due to Strike




More than 70 percent of Air France's flights to Russia were canceled on Thursday because of a strike by its pilots, the airline stated on its website.

"Due to the call for strike action by several pilot unions, from September 15 to 22, our flight schedule operated by Air France is disrupted as of Monday, September 15, 2014," the company said in a statement.

Out of 16 flights to Moscow, only five will be carried out. One flight to St. Petersburg was also canceled. Overall, Air France plans to operate 42 percent of its flights on Thursday, company spokeswoman Catherine Jude told journalists Wednesday.

Russia Calls Law on Special Status of Donbas 'Step in Right Direction'





Russia views the recent Ukrainian law on special status of parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk region as a step in the right direction, the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
"This document is regarded by Russia as a step in the right direction and in line with the agreements outlined in the Geneva joint statement by Russia, Ukraine, the United States and the EU on April 17, as well as in the Berlin declaration of July 2," the ministry said in a statement.
"It creates a foundation for the launch of a comprehensive constitutional process in Ukraine, including the start of a dialogue aimed at facilitating the national reconciliation in that country," the statement said.

Scotland Decides Its Future as 5,579 Polling Stations Open





Polling stations for the referendum on Scottish independence have opened in Scotland at 7:00 a.m. BST (06:00 GMT) and will remain open till 10:00 p.m. BST (21:00 GMT) on Thursday.

"Polling places are busiest during the early morning and in the evening as people vote on their way to and from work. If you are able to avoid these times, I would encourage you to do so to ensure everyone can vote without having to queue," Scotland's Chief Counting Officer for the referendum Mary Pitcaithly states. A total of 4,285,323 people have registered to vote in the referendum and the turnout is expected to exceed 80%.

The Scottish people are "deeply fortunate" to be able to express their desire for independence in a peaceful, democratic way, Stuart Nicholson, a spokesman for pro-Scottish independence leader, Alex Salmond, told RIA Novosti Thursday.
"We are deeply fortunate as a nation that we have the opportunity to gain our nation's independence in such a profoundly democratic way…and not through conflict as has been the case with so many nations, including the United States itself," Nicholson said.

Russia’s Rosatom Ready to Produce Fresh Water Using Nuclear Energy





Russia's Rusatom Overseas, the subsidiary of the Russian state-run nuclear corporation Rosatom, is ready to help fight global lack of fresh water by constructing water desalination facilities abroad, using the nuclear technologies and the unique competence of Russian experts, the company said in a statement Wednesday.

Delta state lawmaker walked out of Assembly for improper dressing




A Man in the Delta State House of Assembly, Keston Okoro, was  September 18th sent from the floor of the Assembly for improper dressing. Leadership reports that House Speaker Peter Onwunsanya gave the order after having a member of the house, Daniel Mayuku raised an objection to the mode of dressing of the lawmaker, saying that his dressing fell lacking the guidelines and regulations of the House.

Four people die in Kebbi after police rescue foreign national suspected of being a ritualist



Below is a press release from The Force Headquarters

Today at about 12noon, a group of villagers in Kamba, Kebbi State, were about to lynch a national of Niger Republic, named Adamu Gaya, on suspicion of involvement in an alleged ritual murder of a young girl. The Police rescued and brought him into protective custody. 

However, irate villagers attacked the Police station and destroyed the communication base. They also burnt two (2) Police vehicles, and nine (9) motorcycles.

Spanish Prime Minister Warns Scotland, Catalonia Against Secession





Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has warned supporters of Scotland and Catalonia’s secession that they might face considerable difficulties while reapplying to the European Union if vote for independence.


"If a part of a state becomes separate, it becomes a third party in relation to the European Union,” Rajoy stressed speaking to members of Spanish parliament on Wednesday.
Reapplying may take years, as it requires the ratification of all the 28 member-states. “I’ve no sympathy at all for these processes. They’re bad for the state in question and for the whole of the European Union,” Rajoy stated, asked by a Basque lawmaker if he would help an independent Scotland stay in the European Union.

UK Ex-Military Chiefs Warn Scotland’s Separation to Undermine Common Security




In an open letter posted in The Sun newspaper on Wednesday, a group of Britain’s 14 former military chiefs warned Scotland against a yes vote, saying the secession would be “critical for all our security.”
“The division of the UK may or may not be politically or economically sensible, but in military terms we are clear: it will weaken us all,” the letter said.
“As former chiefs of the Royal Navy, British army and Royal Air Force, we know it is fiction to talk about regional armed forces,” the seven former Chiefs of Defense Staff, three ex- First Sea Lords, three former Army chiefs and the former head of the Royal Air Force wrote.
The chiefs stressed that armed forces of Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom “train as one, fight as one and are under one command.”

Ukrainian Prime Minister Orders to Keep Troops on Full Combat Alert





Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said Wednesday he had ordered the defense minister to keep the country's armed forces in the highest state of combat readiness.
"I ask the defense minister and the interior minister [to ensure] full combat readiness and supply everything that the army or the National Guard needs," he said.

Graphic Pic: Three dead children found abandoned in Benin




Residents of Benin city in Edo state today September 17th woke up to a shocking discovery of the dead bodies of three children abandoned at two points along the second East Circular Road by unknown individuals. Two of the bodies, already in decomposing states, were wrapped and ‎place in a cardboard box and placed directly under a tree along the trail while the 3rd girl of a around a year old was dumped few meters from others along the trail by Uwa street junction. Officials of the state Ministry of Environment have since taken the bodies off the street. See pic after the break..

FG defends $9.3m cash seized in SA, releases data on transaction





Nigerian Government has defended the controversial $9.3million seized from a private jet by South African immigration on September 5th. In a diplomatic discussion it opened with the South African government yesterday September 16th, FG said they are aware of the deal (money was meant to procure arms) and have presented documents on the transaction process to the South African govt as proof that the entire operation involving the seized aircraft belonging to CAN president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, was genuine....

17 people confirmed dead as Bomb blast, sporadic gun shots hit Kano College



Based on a breaking news report, a bomb blast just went off at the Federal College of Education in Kano. Facts are sketchy but residents of Kabuga area where in fact the school is found say sporadic gunshots followed immediately the bomb went off this afternoon. The complete place is in a chaos right now. Armed security are said to have visited the area... Update: 17 people have already been confirmed dead...

Nigerian Ambassador to the US Responds to Abuse Allegations.





On September 9th, 2014, a US television program, PBS Frontline aired a very disturbing video footage showing security forces allegedly committing human-rights violations.
 
One of their reporters, producer Evan Williams had set out to investigate atrocities committed by Boko Haram, but along the way he uncovered a very different story. A video footage given to Williams by numerous sources appeared to show state-sponsored militias — and in some cases the Nigerian military — conducting brutal interrogations and even executions of civilians suspected to be Boko Haram members.
