Prof. Wole Soyinka writes on the #bringbackjonathan2015 post, says he knows Australian hostage negotiator



In an item he titled 'The Wages of Impunity', Nobel Laureate Prof Soyinka condemned the recent #bringbackjonathan2015 campaign slogan and GEJ's recent visit to Chad with Ali Modu Sheriff, who has been accused to be a Boko Haram sponsor. In the piece posted on Sahara Reporters, Prof Soyinka wrote he knows Australian hostage negotitaor Stephen Davis, saying which they both worked together under late President Umaru Musa Yar Adua's regime throughout the struggle for the return of peace in the Niger Delta region.

Ebola: Dr Sam Enemuo's Friend Reveals Why He Treated Koye in Secret

Until a few weeks ago, Dr. Sam Ikechukwu Enemuo was a relatively unknown name. But today, the very mention of his name and everyone is quick to identify him as the doctor who knowingly treated an Ebola patient in a hotel in Port Harcourt, contracted the disease and died of the illness after infecting others he had close contact with. An elderly woman who shared hospital room with him also died of the disease.

Emir of Kano: Emir SLS Wants Divorce Severely Punished!



The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II has urged the Kano State Government to enact a law that will punish those who end their marriages on questionable grounds. Mr. Sanusi lamented the spate of divorce in Kano State, and said there must be punitive steps to reverse the trend, as many residents end their marriages on flimsy excuses. PremiumTimes reports that the Emir who spoke in Kano, Friday, noted that women are often the most affected after divorce.

VIP Seating Collapses at Pro-Jonathan Rally





There was pandemonium at the Minna Trade Fair Complex on Saturday morning as the venue’s VIP seating area collapsed during a political rally organized by the Transformation Ambassador of Nigeria [TAN] to campaign for the reelection of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Dignitaries were seated and the venue was packed to the brim when the platform constructed to sit top government officials and chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party suddenly caved in, trapping a few of those already seated. The development sparked panic across the venue with several people scampering for safety. Some people were so scared that they began to hurry out of the venue in droves.

"Why TB Joshua's Synagogue Building Collapsed" – NEMA



The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has given more reasoned explanations why a building collapsed at the premises of the Synagogue Church of most all Nations in Lagos on Friday. In accordance with NEMA spokesman, Ibrahim Farinloye, the building was originally a two storey building being raised to five.  
“ The additional three was being constructed when it collapsed around 1p.m Friday afternoon.  The church members have been very aggressive and tried attacking emergency responders.  Before emergency responders arrival, about 15 are said to have being rescued alive and three dead.  Many are said to trapped still.” Farinloye stated in an sms message.

800 Chibok Youths Flee Community




No fewer than 800 Chibok youths have in the last six weeks fled their homes and ran to Lagos, Kano, Abuja and other cities to evade attack by the violent Boko Haram sect.
It was learnt that the sect had embarked on mass abductions of young men as fighters and many Chibok youths and others from the surrounding villages were being abducted by the insurgents for conscription.

Hackers Rob Nigerian Bank of ₦6.3billion





Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is on the trail of a group of computer hackers, who have stolen N6.28billion, about $40million, from a new generation Nigerian bank.

At the head of the IT thieves is Godswill Oyegwa Uyoyou, who worked in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department of the unidentified bank. He is now on the run, according to a report in by EFCC. Uyoyou allegedly conspired with others and hacked into the bank’s computers, disbursing the funds to various accounts as they pleased. Uyoyou, who hails from Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, is said to have carried out the massive heist over a short period of time.

Photos: Fatal accident on Lagos-Ibadan expressway



 Nine persons including a kid died today in a deadly multiple accident that occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Based on eyewitnesses, 2 Mazda cars collided with a Petrol tanker which immediately busted into flames. Men of the Nigeria Fire Service, Police and FRSC are at the scene managing the situation. The fire has since been put nevertheless the traffic remains reported to be on a standstill.

Just In: Black Scorpion, Benjamin Adekunle, dies at 78




An active player in the Nigerian Civil War (1967-1970), Brig.-Gen Benjamin Adekunle (retd.), is dead. The war veteran, better known as Black Scorpion, died this morning at the age of 78 in Lagos, according to his wife, Folake. Adekunle, who was compulsorily retried from the Nigerian Army in 1974, was the first to lead the 3rd Marine Commando, that eventually spearheaded the end of the three-year war in January 1970. Olusegun Obasanjo succeeded Adekunle, arguably the most conspicuous and controversial figure during the war, in the 3rd Marine Commando . A close friend to the deceased, who however did not want his name in print yet, also confirmed Adekunle’s death to newsmen on Saturday.

Synagogue Church chased us away as we tried to rescue victims trapped in collapsed building




Officials of the National Emergency management Agency, NEMA, were prevented from rescuing more victims of the collapsed Synagogue of Nations Church’s Guest House, which collapsed Friday afternoon. The spokesperson of the agency, Ibrahim Familoye, stated this in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Friday night. The building, which was initially a two-storey complex, was being refurbished with three additional floors already added to it when it collapsed. Mr. Familoye, who had earlier indicated that about three persons died and 20 others injured, said the agency could not rescue more victims because the church chased its officials away.

Army spokesman Timothy Antigha said in a statement that the Islamists launched a “massive” attack on the town of Konduga, about 35 kilometres (22 miles) from Maiduguri, at 0430 GMT Friday.

Ebola Survivor Dr. Kent Brantly Donates Blood to Treat Another Infected Doctor




Ebola survivor Dr. Kent Brantly has donated a unit of blood to treat the third American aid worker infected with the virus as doctors fight to save the patient’s life.

Brantly flew to Nebraska last week to donate his blood which was a perfect match, to use to treat Dr. Rick Sacra, an American missionary who contracted Ebola in Liberia. Sacra is being treated at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He has received two blood plasma transfusions from Brantly, Dr. Phil Smith, director of the Nebraska hospital's biocontainment unit, said Thursday at a news conference.

Photo: Lady shot dead in Lagos on her way to work this morning





A lady identified as Oluwabunmi Adeola Oladokun, and a man were in the early hours of today, around 5.30am, shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Orisumbare area of Idimu, Lagos State.

According to Sahara Reporters, Oladokun was on her way to her Victoria Island office when she was shot dead. She was said to have died on the spot while the other victim, a man, whose identity is still unknown managed to escape with a gunshot injury and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in the area. ...

Lagos state government supports FG September resumption date






The Lagos state Government has thrown its weight behind the September 22nd public and private schools resumption date by the Federal government following efforts to stop the Ebola virus outbreak in the country. 

In a recent statement issued by the Special Adviser to the state governor on Media, Lateef Raji, the state government says following a non-existence of any Ebola virus patient in the state, it's safe for students to come back back for their classes.
