₦255m car scandal: Reps’ panel indicts Oduah, NCAA



There were indications on Wednesday that the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation had established some infractions against the Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah, and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
The committee is investigating the controversial purchase of two bulletproof BMW cars by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority allegedly for Oduah at a whopping N255m. However, she testified before the committee, which is chaired by Mrs. Nkiruka Onyejeocha, and denied that the cars were bought for her use.
The panel  ended  its public hearing on the transaction on Monday.

Oduah: Jonathan, NSA in closed-door meeting



The National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), on Wednesday  met behind closed-doors with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Dasuki is a member of the three-man administrative panel set up by Jonathan to probe the Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah, over the N255m bulletproof cars purchased for her by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

Buhari, Tinubu invite Amaechi to join APC



A former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and ex-Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday renewed their calls on Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi to join the All Progressives Congress. Buhari and Tinubu, who led a team of top APC officials to Port Harcourt for a rally, described Amaechi as an asset to Rivers people and Nigeria.

Presidency dares Amaechi to join APC



The Presidency on Wednesday said Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State was at liberty to dump the ruling Peoples Democratic Party for the opposition All Progressive Congress.
Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters, Mr. Ahmed Gulak, said this in an interview with our correspondent. Gulak was reacting to a statement credited to Amaechi that he would consult Jonathan before joining the APC.

Nigerian FG grants citizenship to 174 foreigners




The Federal Government, Wednesday, granted Nigerian citizenship to 174 foreigners.

Briefing journalists after the weekly meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation, FEC, chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan, the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, said a breakdown of the applications submitted included those from 45 foreigners married to Nigerians, and 129 from persons that were born by naturalised Nigerians.

An air conditioner repairer working with a hotel in Lagos, Nigeria has been arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrate Court, charged with alleged theft.
The repairer, Paul Muyiwa Ojikutu, a resident of No. 10 Aguragberigbe, Ikorodu is charged with stealing N500 only.

Revealed: Governor Amaechi Hires Private Israeli Security Guards



It has been revelaed the Rivers State Governor, Romtimi Amaechi, has hired private Israeli security guards. Amaechi, who has been having a running battle with the Commissioner of Police in River State often times accusing the CP, Mbu Joseph Mbu of plotting to kill him and his political appointees although he has presented no shred of proof to back up his claims.

Lamido Sanusi has informed HARDtalk he will not be entering politics when he ends his term as governor of the Key Bank of Nigeria.

 “Being a good central banker does not make you a good politician,” he said, adding he had seen enough successful people enter politics only to “destroy everything they have built.”
Asked if he could persuaded to change his mind, Mr Sanusi said:
 “I have been in Abuja long enough to know that I cannot survive for one year in that space.”

Police Jail 8 Abuja "Runs Babes " For Pros*titution.



Abuja— A Zuba Grade 1 Area Court in the FCT, yesterday, sentenced eight women to half a year imprisonment each for prosti*tution. Those sentenced were Felicia Dominic, Vivian Agubuzor, Ifeoma Patrick, Comfort Jacob, Gift Obi, Tina Osagie, Mercy John and Joy Ayo, of no fixed address in Zuba.
 The judge, Mallam Alhassan Kusherki, sentenced the accused persons when they pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of soliciting men for the purpose of prostitution. Kusherki, however, gave the convicts a choice of N20,000 fine each. Prosecutor, Momoh Ibrahim, had told the court that the offence contravened Section 405 (Paragraph 1(b)) of the Penal Code.

Mismanagement: NNPC Can’t Account For ₦500bn Subsidy Fund – Senate




The Senate on Tuesday lamented that officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation failed to honour its invitation to give account of how they managed the  N32.00 removed as subsidy on each of the litre of petrol sold in the country between January 2012 and September 2013

Members of the  Senate Ad-hoc Committee on the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme raised the alarm while addressing journalists, two hours after officials of the NNPC and the Central Bank of Nigeria failed to honour an appointment with them.

FG To ASUU: FG to give varsities N1.1tn in five years.



Details of the  Monday/ Tuesday marathon meeting  between President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of Academic Staff Union  of  Universities have begun to emerge.
The PUNCH  gathered on Tuesday evening that a key component of the agreement reached by the parties was  that the Federal Government  would  inject N1.1tn into public universities in the next five years.
A reliable source, who made this known, also hinted that the strike would be called off anytime next week.
He  said the government team which was led by President Goodluck Jonathan would release   N220bn yearly into the sector beginning from 2014.

Nigerian Banks to identify customers by fingerprints next year



The Central Bank of Nigeria and the Bankers Committee on Tuesday sealed a biometric solution pact with a German Firm, Dermalog, for the development of a payment system that would be driven by fingerprints.
The move, according to the Governor, CBN, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, will help to revolutionise the country’s payment system.

Newly married Woman Dies Of Cholera After Eating Abacha Igbo Salad In Lagos




A newly married woman has passed away in Lagos State Nigeria after she contracted Cholera from a popular Igbo salad named Abacha. The victim identified as Blessing passed away yesterday at the Military Hospital in Yaba Lagos just 2 weeks after her wedding.

Since last week Thursday when she contracted the deadly disease, doctors at the aforementioned hospital had been working tirelessly to save her life. Blessing’s death has brought the no of cholera related death to 4 in Lagos since the outbreak 2 weeks ago.
