GEJ nominates FRSC boss as minister, to replace Stella Oduah



President Jonathan has nominated the current boss of the Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC, 43 year old Ositadinma Benjamin Chidoka as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent Anambra in the Federal Executive council.

According to reports, Chidoka is most likely to replace former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah who resigned her position in February. A letter of his nomination has been sent to the Nigerian Senate and would be read on the floor of the Senate today. Abubakar Olanrewaju from Kwara state was also nominated and would replace former Sports minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, in the Federal Executive Council if confirmed by the senate.

Nigeria needs 700,000 housing units annually to meet MDG – Board





Abuja – The Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria said on Thursday that Nigeria needed 700,000 housing units annually to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This is contained in a communique signed by the President and Registrar of the board, Messrs Husaini Dikko and Mr Godson Moneke respectively, at the end of the 4th Annual Building and Construction Economic Round-Table (BCERT 4).

The communiqué indicated that the current annual housing production which stands at 100,000, was grossly inadequate. It put the current housing deficit in Nigeria at 17 million units adding that about N56 trillion was required to finance it.

5 sentenced to death by hanging for robbery in Ilorin

EFCC closes case in trial of Fani-Kayode over alleged money laundering



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has closed its case in the trial of former Minister of Aviation and Tourism, Femi Fani-Kayode over a 40-count amended charge on money laundering, Vanguard reports.

At a resumed hearing of the case in a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, counsel to the EFCC in a letter delivered by Mr. Vitalis Ahaotu to the presiding Judge, Justice Rita-Ofili Ajumogobia, the EFCC notified the court of the commission's intention to close the case against the former Minister.

Troops crush insurgents ambush at Delwa in Borno, 3 soldiers Dead, 7 injured.




Troops on patrol around Delwa and neighbouring communities (in Borno state yesterday Wednesday July 9th) successfully broke through insurgents’ ambush 35kilometres to Maiduguri as they advanced to dislodge insurgents who were massing up in the area.
The fierce fire fight that ensued as the troops wadded through the ambush left scores of insurgents dead, while 3 soldiers died in action. 7 soldiers who incurred various degrees of injuries have been evacuated for treatment while the troops have continued with their mission.

Russia & China see no sense in creating military alliance – Kremlin



Russia and China see no sense in creating a military alliance; relations between Moscow and Beijing are not directed against anyone, head of the presidential administration of Russia Sergey Ivanov told journalists. He noted that cooperation between Russia and China was fruitful.

"But at the same time, I find no sense, and the Chinese side, I must admit, also finds no sense in creating a new military alliance or union, or something like that. Our relations, including in the sphere of defense, are not directed against anyone," said Ivanov.

In case of another shelling of Russian territory responsibility to fall on Kiev authorities - Moscow



Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its strong protest over the firing of Russian checkpoint "Gukovo" by Ukrainian military forces on the Russian-Ukrainian border on July, 10. The ministry stressed that in case of a repetition of such cases the responsibility for the consequences of attacks will be on the Kiev authorities., reports Russia Today.

The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that at the moment of firing at the "Gukovo" checkpoint there were about 230 refugees from Ukraine, and "only by luck there were no casualties," mentioned in the Russian Foreign Ministry statement.

Kiev hinders the investigation of the tragic events in Odessa and other cases of human rights violations in Ukraine, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Lukashevich has said.

"We are under the impression that the Ukrainian authorities are actually hindering the investigation," he said at a briefing in Moscow.

Law enforcers announce take over of two-thirds of districts in Donetsk and Lugansk regions



The Ukrainian military are in control of 13 out of the 18 districts of the Donetsk region and 10 out of the 18 districts of the Lugansk region, the press service of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine reports with reference to the NSDC secretary Andriy Parubiy.

Saturday, Ukrainian law enforcers stated that they had taken control of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, left by the main forces of the militia. The militia was forced to retreat in the direction of Donetsk and Lugansk.

Twins sisters who were trained in the UK as health practitioners, now in Syria'training to be killers'




16 year olds Salma (centre left) and Zahra Halane (centre right), who were among the top 20 students at their girls' school in Manchester, left their parents' home in the middle of the night and caught a flight to Turkey, before crossing the border. Police said the pair are thought to have followed their elder brother, who ditched his own 'excellent' academic career to join the ISIS terror group around a year ago. Friends said the twins had appeared to be typical teenagers, pouting for selfies & shopping at Primark - but they are now feared to be training for battle. 30 women & children reportedly escape from Sambisa Forest



According to reports, 30 women and children have escaped from the Boko Haram camp in Sambisa Forest. Sahara Reporters reports that a senior military officer who spoke anonymously said the women and children after escaping wandered through the forest and finally arrived the Madagali LGA in Adamawa state. He said they appeared in a village which is a border town between Adamawa and Borno state.

The unidentified security officer however declined to disclose if the women and children are among the over 200 girls that were abducted from the Chibok school. He however said the women and children who have been moved to an undisclosed hospital for rehabilitation narrated their ordeal in the Boko Haram camp.
