Police IG, Lagos Police Commissioner Sued For ₦25 Million over Neglect of Mother



The family of a woman, Taskirat Anjolaiya, who was hit by a reckless and negligent police driver and knocked into a comatose state along with her new born baby, has filed a N25 million lawsuit against the police. Inspector General of Police Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Umar Manko are named as defendants in the lawsuit.

The accident occurred three months ago in Lagos as a police driver in an official van drove in the wrong direction on a one-way street.

Taraba: My deputy betrayed me, says Suntai Taraba



AILING Taraba State Governor Danbaba Suntai has accused his deputy, Alhaji Garba Umar, of betrayal. Suntai said he least expected the deputy governor to lust for his (Suntai’s) office given the confidence he reposed in him.
Suntai, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Sylvanus Yakubu, said the governor was not the only one that felt betrayed but the entire people of the state.

University Don Urges FG To Dedicate 36 Per Cent of Budget To Education



An educationist, Abiola Awosika on Tuesday urged the federal government to dedicate 35 per cent of its budget to education to ensure that the country meets the international educational standard.
Speaking during a programme on Channels Television, the education professor said she had written an academic article in 1992, recommending that 25 per cent of Nigeria’s budget be dedicated to education because “we had a shortfall and we needed to catch up with the rest of the world”.

Fashola Apologises To Igbos Over Deportation Saga - The Nation Newspaper

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Thursday offered an unreserved apology for the misunderstanding generated by the alleged deportation of some destitutes to Onitsha, Anambra State.
The state government was accused of dumping 70 beggars at Onitsha Bridge on July 24, a situation that generated public outcry and bad blood.

26-Year Old To Die By Hanging For Robbery & Rape



For robbing a couple at gunpoint and raping their teenage daughter, a Delta High Court sitting in Warri, yesterday, sentenced a 26-year-old furniture maker, Chijioke Ede, to death by hanging.

The condemned armed robber and rapist was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery and rape before the court.

He was found guilty on all the charges and sentenced to death on count one and two, while he got life imprisonment on the charge of rape.

A night at a Lagos police station



The telephone call came in the middle of the night, rousing me rudely from a deep and exciting sleep. I had slept very early the previous day having had a very exhausting afternoon. As a routine, I had ensured that my mobile phones were put in the silent mode. But on the fateful night, I had forgotten to change the tone. So, when the stringent Nokia tune broke the eerie silence of the night, I cursed under my breath. As I fumbled around in the Power Holding Company of Nigeria-induced darkness, I had wondered who could be calling at that ungodly hour. In my drowsy state, I answered the call. Then, I recognised the voice at the other end to be that of a neighbour. He frantically told me he had been arrested by the police for wandering while returning from work.

My critics implemented a shoddy privatisation programme – Jonathan



President Goodluck Jonathan has berated  his opponents, particularly those who handled the past privitisation exercise, saying they are now “opening their mouth wide” to attack his administration.
Jonathan, who said this while addressing Nigerian professionals in New York, United States, on Monday said the privatisation of public utilities by his administration was being done in a transparent manner.
He also said the problem of the Boko Haram insurgency was being exploited to blackmail his administration.

Only Child of Tasty Fried Chicken boss Olubunmi Adedayo dies - R.I.P



 The only real child of Tastee Fried Chicken boss Mrs Olayinka Adedayo, Olubunmi Adedayo has passed away. Bunmi, who until his death was the executive director of TFC, died yesterday September 24th in the US. Heard he fell ill within Nigeria and was flown to the US for treatment where he died.  He's survived by his parents, wife and two kids. 
May his soul rest in peace.... 

US Congress to hold hearing on B’Haram, terrorism



The United States Congress will next week hold a public hearing on the militant Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

The leader of American Congress Committee on African Affairs, Mr. Chris Smith, said this in Abuja on Tuesday during a meeting with the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.

Heartless!!! Baby Buried Alive In Church



The police in Lagos State, western Nigeria, have shut a church where a two-year old baby girl was allegedly buried alive at Egbeda.

Already, the police at Idimu Division have exhumed the body of the victim for autopsy and arrested the pastor of the church identified as Dare Ogunloye.

R.I.P: Late MC Loph’s Mother Dies



Exactly couple of years after losing her star son in a tragic road accident, Mrs Obiajulu is dead. The aged mother of star singer Nwaozo Obiajulu aka MC Loph passed on couple of days ago at a personal hospital in Enugu after battling an undisclosed illness.

Mrs Obiajulu lost her two children, MC Loph and his sister on the 14th of September 2011 in a tragic car crash on Benin Ore Expressway.
