Intelligent High School Head boy kills self after impregnating policeman's daughter




A Phakamani High School headboy in Plumtree hanged himself yesterday after suspecting that he had impregnated his girlfriend, an O Level pupil at the same school.

Police spokesperson for Matabeleland South Assistant Inspector Christopher Ngwenya identified the pupil as Form Six student Obriel Ncube (19) of Number 759 Makariba suburb, Plumtree.

One of the teachers at the school revealed that Obriel had confided to his friends that he had impregnated his girlfriend, a daughter of a local police officer and therefore feared being arrested. She said the friends also said he had told them that he was afraid of causing more problems for his mother who was struggling to make ends meet hence his decision to commit suicide.

Police Officer’s Wife In Trouble For Abusing Maid



A police officer’s wife, Chioma Egbes, who has allegedly been in the habit of beating up a 10-year- old house maid, Miracle Ndubisi, got what she did not bargain for when a good Samaritan reported her to the police.
Mrs. Egbes brought the housemaid from her village, Owerri,  to Lagos in December, last year. The good Samaritan, Ola Babafemi, who is based in Canada came to visit his friend, Adebisi Oke at Ikotun area of Lagos on Easter Monday when he saw the badly battered girl in a super market.

Boko Haram Members Behind The Mask



The Governor of Borno State had had several meetings with Boko Haram members. I am not sure how he contacted them or made the arrangement. What am I saying here?
If the governor makes contact with them he should know some of them. Let's assume he doesn't know because they all wore mask as they appeared for these several meetings.

The body of ten policemen killed in an ambush on Saturday night in Bayelsa state have been recovered.
The bodies were recovered yesterday by the police who brought them to  the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa and refused access to the facility even to journalists milling around the area.

Girl, 17, dies following suicide attempt after alleged gang-rape by 4 heavy boys (PICTURED)



A 17-year-old Canadian girl died Sunday following a suicide attempt last week. The family of Rehtaeh Parsons said that their daughter never recovered from an alleged rape by four teenage boys in November 2011 that left her deeply depressed and rejected by her community.
Placed on life support last Thursday at a local hospital, Rehtaeh Parsons died on April 7 after her family made the decision to take her off the life support.
In a Facebook memorial page, the girl’s mother, Leah Parsons, wrote that Rehtaeh had been shunned and harassed after one of the boys allegedly involved in the rape took a picture of the incident and distributed it to their “school and community, where it quickly went viral.”

To understand what this is about, let me give you a brief summary. Four Leadership newspaper journalists published something they said was a presidential directive on ACN on their website (find it HERE), a few days later, police stormed their office in Abuja and picked them up. Group Managing Director of the newspapers, Azubuike Ishiekwene, said presidency ordered their arrest. The reporters were detained for 48 hours before being released. But two of them, Mr. Tony Amokeodo and Mr. Chibuzo Ukaibe (pictured above) were released conditionally. They have been asked to report at the police headquarters by 10am every day for undisclosed reasons. See Leadership statement about their detention and release HERE

The police wanted the journalist to reveal the source of their story...which claimed that the presidency was planning to scuttle the merger of APC and target key leaders of the emerging political party.

The journalists arrested are: Mrs. Chinyere Fred-Adegbulugbe, the director of human capital; Mr. Chuks Ohuegbe, managing editor; Mr. Tony Amokeodo, the group news editor; and Mr. Chibuzor Ukaibe, a political reporter.

While talking about her new novel Americanah, with Kate Kellaway of The Observer, award winning author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie said black women should embrace their natural hair. When asked to give an honest description of her hair and what it says about her, Chimamanda replied:
That is the best question! My hair is in tiny cornrows; I have a big ponytail on the top of my head. I quite like it. It is natural. I am a bit of a fundamentalist when it comes to black women's hair. Hair is hair – yet also about larger questions: self-acceptance, insecurity and what the world tells you is beautiful. Four church leaders killed in Borno State



Four church leaders of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) located in Gwoza village in Borno state were killed on Monday April 8th by gunmen believed to be members of Islamic sect, Boko Haram.  The four men identified as Iliya Tada, Ayuba Yusuf, Idris Dogo and a fourth victim were gunned down while resting near the church premises after a service. Their attackers rode into the church in a bike and opened fire. The dead men were buried today.

TRAGEDY: 4-year old shoots wife top police officer accidentally





A Tennessee deputy's four-year-old nephew shot and killed his wife during a weekend cookout at their home, police said.
Josephine Fanning, 47, and the boy walked into a bedroom where her husband Daniel was showing his personal gun collection to a relative in Lebanon. Unaware that the child entered, the sheriff's deputy left a loaded pistol unattended on the bed.
"Split second, we're talking about seconds for that kid to walk in that room unbeknownst to them, grab that gun and it goes off," said Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan.
 

Pregnant woman kidnapped and tortured as she immigrated to U.S.




For three days, a pregnant Salvadoran woman was held captive in a mobile home in the Texas borderland, her dreams of reuniting with her family on Long Island replaced by fear of violent death.
“They were threatening me with a gun, pointed right to my stomach,” Zoila Figueroa said of the two men who abducted her after she sneaked across the U.S.-Mexico border near Hidalgo, Tex., in March 2012.
“They threatened me. They said if my husband didn’t pay ransom they were going to take out my baby. They were going to take out the baby alive and then they were going to kill me.”
Her captors freed her unharmed after her husband, who lives in Roosevelt, L.I., paid $3,990 in ransom. She later delivered a healthy baby boy, her third child.

Teacher arraigned on raping former student





The sixth-grade teacher accused of bedding a 14-year-old former student performed his perverse acts in the Queens apartment he shares with his wife and baby daughter, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Daniel Reilly, 36, is accused of having sex at least 10 times with the girl in his Forest Hills apartment over an eight-month period beginning last October and continuing into April — with their most recent illicit hookup just four days ago, according to court documents.

“The defendant planned on keeping the relationship secret,” a prosecutor said, charging he had the girl use a code name for him in her cell phone.

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, yesterday April 9th, commissioned the newly-constructed Ikeja Millemium Housing Estate, which he named after former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku.

Five people set themselves on fire in Gujarat, leaving one man dead as they protested against official plans to raze their home in a drive to remove illegal structures, police said yesterday.
According to GulfTimes

The five people, including three women, belonged to the same family and turned up at a city government office in Rajkot carrying kerosene-filled containers around noon yesterday, the police said.
Ram Sinh, a police official based in Rajkot said the group came to request the officials to stop demolition of illegal encroachments.
But when their request was not granted they poured kerosene on themselves and set themselves on fire,Sinh said.

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested a driver, Olusegun Ajayi, for allegedly raping a 15-year-old housemaid in Arepo, Ogun State.
The NSCDC authorities said the suspect had canal knowledge of the girl which caused her to bleed for two days.
Ajayi, however, told PUNCH Metro that his act was not rap-è since the victim consented. The suspect, who claimed to be a devout Christian, said he did not know the victim prior to the incident.

A 35-year-old man from the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Isa Umar has appealed to both the state government and the police to assist him by bringing to justice, a person who allegedly raped his wife.
Umar and the officer in charge of the Legal Aid Council, Zubayr Hanbali made the plea, yesterday, at the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in Bauchi.

In his account of the incident, Umar alleged that he asked a commercial motorcyclist, (okada) whose name was simply given as Auwalu to take his wife and two children to a nearby village, but he diverted into the bush at Ball village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area and raped the woman in front of her two children aged between three and six years, after stabbing her with a knife.

Bayelsa Police Killings : Police Recover 11 Bodies



Emotions ran high, yesterday, at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa Bayelsa State, as the remains of 11 out of the 12 policemen killed last Friday were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

Some of the recovered bodies were reportedly burnt and mutilated by their killers who also stripped them of their uniforms and rifles during the attack.
The combined team of soldiers drawn from the Joint Task Force, JTF, and operatives of the Nigeria Police, yesterday, recovered the burnt and decomposed bodies of the slain policemen along the creeks of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

NFF cuts Eagles bonus, coaches salaries



The Nigeria Football Federation has taken a very significant step to curtail overhead cost in the administration of football in the country. The Technical and Development Committee of the federation, which met in Abuja on Tuesday, recommended for immediate implementation, a list of decisions that would substantively cut down the cost of prosecuting games involving the national teams.
One of the major decisions is the review of the salaries of all the national team coaches, including that of Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi. Even though he has a contract still running, The PUNCH learnt that every coach in the employment of the federation would be affected as soon as the implementation begins.

1,074MW drop in Power generation



The poor supply of electricity being witnessed across the country currently is as a result of a significant drop in power generation from a peak of 4,517 megawatts attained on December 21, 2012 to 3,443MW on Tuesday.
The 1,074MW drop is, however, a slight improvement over the 2,987.6MW peak generation recorded on April 6, 2013, when a whopping 1,529.4MW was lost.
The drop in power generation, our correspondent gathered from the Ministry of Power, was as a result of low gas supply to thermal power plants.

Detained Leadership journalists released, sue IG for ₦10m




Two journalists with the LeadershipNewspapers, detained by the police on Monday were released on Tuesday evening.
The Group News Editor of LeadershipNewspapers Group, Mr. Tony Amoekedo, and correspondent, Chibuzo Ukaibe, were detained alongside two others at the Force Headquarters following a story their newspaper published on a “presidential directive” to attack key opposition political parties’ leaders.
They were however asked to report at the Force Headquarters daily for further investigation.

North Korea To Launch Missile





North Korea has completed preparations for a mid-range missile launch tomorrow from its east coast, officials in Seoul have revealed just hours after foreigners living in South Korea were warned to quit the country.  The worrying warning came as speculation heightened that North Korea is planning to pull its ambassador out of the UK after a shipping container was pictured outside the London embassy.

Boxes were seen being loaded onto a large lorry parked outside the pariah state’s embassy – an ordinary home in Ealing, west London.

Lagos committed to quality grass-roots health care – Fashola



Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday said his administration was creating a robust grassroots healthcare.
Fashola spoke during the inauguration of a second comprehensive Primary Health Centre in Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area.
The governor, who urged residents to maximise the use of the centres, said PHC facilities in the state had been redesigned to operate a comprehensive 24 hours service to boost grassroot healthcare.
He said, “These new PHCs are designed to make cases of malaria, ante-natal and child delivery a local affair while difficult cases which the PHCs cannot cope with will see such patients referred to general hospitals and teaching hospitals.”

FG budgets N30bn for completion of 2nd Niger Bridge



Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, yesterday, disclosed that the Federal Government has earmarked a total of N30 billion for the construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge.
Also, weigh bridges are to be deployed across the country as part of measures to ascertain the weight of goods and materials that are conveyed on roads.
These were part of the disclosures that were made during the presentation of the Ministry of Works’ performance report to the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, by Onolememen and the Minister of State, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda.
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the minister, even as he described ministers as “representing a very important link between the government and the governed.
