19-year-old UNILAG student commits suicide



When a young undergraduate suddenly commits suicide, neighbours and friends are bound to draw various conclusions.
It is a more puzzling tragedy because suicide is not common among youths in Nigeria.
Till date, people are wondering why an undergraduate of the University of Lagos identified simply as Seun committed suicide on January 19. His action has left his family and friends in shock.
Claims by neighbours that he was a brilliant student in school could not be ascertained as efforts to investigate which department he was, proved abortive.

Senate questions N4billion First Lady’s house



The Senate has expressed concerns over the N4bn earmarked for the construction of a mission house for the First Lady listed in the 2013 Budget of the Federal Capital Territory.It also queried the expenditure of N7.5billion for the management of the city as well as the spending of N150million for the renovation of the Guest House of the Vice Presidentin Asokoro, Abuja.
It considered for second reading on Thursday the budget of the FCTA totaling N253.199billion, of which N48.034billion is for personnel cost; N49.504billion is for overhead, while the balance of N155.66billion is for capital projects for the service of the FCT.

Sheikh Gumi Alerts Nation On Igbo Domination of Nigerian Army






Popular and respected Kaduna based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has alerted the nation to what he believes is an attempt by the current chief of army staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejerika, to tilt the Nigerian Army towards Igbo domination. The Chief of Army Staff is of course an Igbo by tribe.

Though he provided no evidence, Sheikh Gumi published a letter he says is being circulated in the army which complains of the Igbo domination.

How Tinubu, Mimiko shunned each other, then shook hands in Akure



Sworn political enemies, Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo, and Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, have exchanged pleasantries in public for the first time since the October 20 governorship election in the state.
Mr. Tinubu and other ACN leaders had in the build-up to the election accused Mr. Mimiko of betrayal and vowed to unseat him as governor.
The governor in turn fired back during his re-election campaigns, asking the electorate not to vote for the ACN’s candidate, Rotimi Akerodolu, as the state would be governed from Lagos, a reference to Mr. Tinubu.

Corp Member Monica Ohouha Constructed Corpers Lodge In Kaduna State






Monica Onuoha, an Abia State Indigene posted to Kaduna State during the Batch A 2012/2013 NYSC year, constructed a Corpers Lodge worth over 5 million naira and she did this with donations from Northerners. Amazing, right?

Miss Monica Onuoha used this one year youth service to make impact on the lives of her fellow corp members and the Sabon Gaya community of Chikun Local Government. It was an emotional commissioning on Jan 31st, 2013 when Ms. Onuoha stood with the State Coordinator to cut the ribbon, formally opening an 8 room lodge for Corp Members at Government Secondary School Sabon Gaya, Kaduna. There was much joy on the faces of the NYSC officials and the LG officials who were in attendance. Some of her donors were on hand that day as well.

Eight Trucks Burnt In Ogun Cement Factory, Five Escape Death In Crash



About eight articulated vehicles were on Friday burnt in an inferno at the premises of the Gateway Portland Cement factory in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
In another incident, no fewer than five persons were seriously injured when an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus somersaulted and broke through a fence in Oke-Ilewo area of the metropolis near the OPIC Towers on Lalubu Road.
The fire at the cement factory was alleged to have been caused by unknown persons said to have set the bush around the factory on fire.

Lonesome: 50-year-old lay dead in his flat for 2 YEARS, skeleton found by cleaners





The skeleton of Simon Allen was found in the lounge of his city centre Brighton flat.  A loner lay dead in his city centre flat for two years after no one realized he had passed away, an inquest heard.
The skeletal remains of Simon Allen were only discovered when deep cleaners went to his home.
His body – wearing just a pair of socks – was found lying behind an armchair in the living room of the flat in Brighton, East Sussex, in November.  Eleven days earlier his landlord and bailiffs had gone to the first-floor property to check why his rent had not been paid for several months.
