Jonathan admits treating terrorism with kid gloves



President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday admitted that his administration had hitherto been treating terrorists in the country with kid glove. Terrorists, especially members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, have hold sway in the North-East zone in the past three years, killing thousands of citizens in attacks on villages, military and polie facilities, worship houses and drinking joints.
The President said his government had now decided to be more forceful in its approach because of its desire to stamp out terror groups from the country.  He spoke in Windhoek, Namibia, during a bilateral talk with President Hifikepunye Pohamba.

Robbers invade Christ Apostolic Church in Alagbado, steal phones, ₦2m



No fewer than 15 armed robbers invaded the Christ Apostolic Church in Alagbado, Lagos State, stealing about 40 phones and money estimated at N2m.  The robbers, who operated for about 20 minutes, were said to have also attempted raping some of the church members before they left the church premises.
It was learnt that the men came around 2am penultimate Friday while the over 450 congregation was engrossed in a prayer session. A member of the church, who craved anonymity, said some of the members had observed a strange man making phone calls while the vigil was on.

He said, “The vigil actually started around 12 midnight. Some of us observed a man who came in around 1.30am. He was seated in the women’s section. About four persons tried persuading him to change seat, including the pastor, but he refused. So they left him.

The violent attack on a Ukrainian TV chief by far-right politicians has been condemned by Amnesty International and other high-profile politicians in the crisis-torn country.

The BBC said they were livid after Panteleymonov decided to broadcast a ceremony from the Kremlin.

Horrible: Pastor Machetes Wife Because She Didn’t Attend Church Programme




An Ogun State Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Owode Egba, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, yesterday, remanded a Pastor, Samuel Daniel in prison for using a machete on his wife.

He was arraigned on a two-count charge of assault and providing false information, which is punishable under Sections 338 and 192 criminal code Vol 1 law of Ogun State, 2006.

Associated Press news agency no longer recognizes Crimea as part of Ukraine



US news agency Associated Press is no longer marking news items coming from Crimea as Ukrainian. In a blog statement, the American news major explained that the Ukrainian regime had lost control over the peninsula, and stressed its marking practice was based on the actual state of things.

Where it once used this dateline: "SEVASTOPOL, Ukraine (AP)," it will now use this one: "SEVASTOPOL, Crimea (AP)."

Fuel subsidy removal cruel to the masses – Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM)



The President and Chairman of Council, Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), Dr. Nelson Uwaga, said on Wednesday that removing fuel subsidy at the moment would be cruel to the masses.
Uwaga, however, said during a courtesy visit to the head office of PUNCH Nigeria Limited in Ogun State that the enormous corruption around the subsidy regime would make it unsustainable on the long run.
“People are abusing the whole thing; so, I think the government should put its house in order. It should not totally remove the subsidy but work towards stabilising the local production of petroleum products,” he said.
The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, on Tuesday gave a hint of the plan by the Federal Government to remove subsidies on petrol and kerosene at the ongoing Nigerian Oil and Gas Conference in Abuja.

Australia sees 2 possible bits of missing Malaysian aircraft wreckage



Two pieces of wreckage that are possibly from the missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 - one estimated to be 78ft in size - have been found to the west of Australia, it was announced yesterday. The debris was spotted on satellite imagery and a total of four aircraft have been sent to investigate the sighting, some 1553 miles off the coast of Perth.

R.I.P: Lady dies in accident one month to her wedding (Photos)



 29 year old Juliet Igbinoba (pictured above with fiance) died in a dangerous motor accident on Monday 17th of March across the Lagos-Benin road only a month before her wedding. Juliet was planning to get married on April 19th; invitation have already been delivered and preparation was in top gear before she met her untimely death while going home to meet her people over her forthcoming wedding. 

Bowen University shutdown indefinitely after students' riot




  The management of Bowen University today closed the school indefinitely after students'protest last night. Students of the private uni. say they're protesting scarcity of electricity, water and plans by the university to improve school fees. The students say they're not being treated right
"They take the light by 8am, and bring it back by 8pm and it goes off by 11pm again. We don't have water, no socket light, while our lecturers are in AC offices and cars. We have time table for eating. 7-9am for breakfast, 12-3 for lunch and 6-8 for dinner. Most times we have classes during these periods" one student told me.
All students have been asked to leave the university...while some students who were detained last night after the riot are yet to be released. Continue...

Picture: Officer hits LASTMA official unconcious with his gun



A mobile policeman yesterday afternoon attacked three officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and knocked one unconscious following an argument along Ashabi Cole off Lateef Jakande road Agidingbi in Ikeja.

Trouble started when LASTMA officials attempted to tow a vehicle parked before a bank that has been causing traffic. Law enforcement officers guarding the bank challenged the LASTMA officials and tried to stop them from towing the automobile that has been believed to belong to a bank customer. An arguement ensued and before anyone could stop it, one LASTMA official was rushed to a healthcare facility after having a police man gave him a head butt and smashed the butt of his gun into his face.

NYSC Offers Former Corp Member ₦100,000 (£500) For Losing His Right Leg



A former corps member, Emmanuel Unogu, has been offered N100,000 by the National Youth Service Corps for the loss of his right leg during the service year.

Unogu, who served with the Urueffong/Oruka Local Government, Akwa Ibom State in 2008, was involved in an auto accident, which later led to the loss of his leg.
It was reported on April 18, 2013 that Unogu was involved in the accident while on his way to Oron on October 26, 2008.
